Double-decker bus carrying students plunges into English river
The bus carrying students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, a school for 16- to 18-year-olds, went off a road in Eastleigh, near the south coast. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
'Reports suggest the bus left the highway and came to rest in a shallow river,' said Richard Tyldsley, general manager of Bluestar Bus. 'Our driver and at least two of the passengers have confirmed injuries, and we are awaiting further updates on the status of others on-board.'
All 19 passengers on board were off the bus and about 14 were treated at the scene by paramedics, a South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson said.
Two helicopters, five ambulances and fire crews responded to the crash.
The bus company did not immediately know the circumstances of the crash, but was investigating and cooperating with police probing the incident.

The crash was captured on a surveillance camera and shows that even trained officers of the law can sometimes do little or nothing when another driver behaves Jaguar was reportedly going 90 mph the wrong way on a road in Liverpool after 10 pm on December 20, 2024 when it slammed into the unassuming crossover being driven by a cop. That collision crumples the Jaguar's hood and sends the unmarked police unit rolling backwards down the road. Just seconds after the crash, a marked police car with lights going pulls up behind the Jaguar, which Liverpool ECHO says was a classic model just as the driver tries running away. He's collared by one officer while the other approaches the vehicle to take the passengers into custody. Reportedly, the Jaguar had been stolen just moments before from a retired classic car collector. The thieves smashed through one of the windows of his house, then threatened the frightened elderly man with a hammer, taking cash and the keys to his Jaguar before driving off in the vehicle. With police in hot pursuit, the suspects decided to try out the British sports car's V8, pushing it to ridiculous speeds for narrow city streets. While the driver was okay after the crash, his accomplices weren't. A teenager who was in the front passenger seat suffered an injury to his leg. The guy who was in the backseat wasn't belted in, so in the collision he was thrown into the center console. Both police officers in the unmarked car were injured as well. One suffered 'bruising and pain' which doesn't sound too bad, but the other has 'permanent scarring' on his hip. In a 90 mph head-on crash, it's lucky nobody was killed. Man fighting for life after M60 incident closes motorway
A man is fighting for his life in hospital after an incident on the M60 closed the motorway on Sunday afternoon (July 27). Emergency services, including police and paramedics attended the incident between junctions 11 at Eccles and 12 for the M62 Eccles Interchange. A diversion was put in place, with the closure affecting both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways. Greater Manchester Police said there were called to a concern for welfare report and that a man was rushed to hospital with 'potentially life-threatening injuries' from the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands this incident is unconnected to this morning's incident in the same area of the M60. A statement from National Highways read: "The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between J11 (Eccles) and J12 (M602) due to a Greater Manchester Police led incident. The motorway later reopened in both directions shortly before 4pm. A GMP spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare on the M60.
