Ranking every Big Ten football 2026 recruiting class by average player rating (July 6)
The class of 2026 recruiting rankings continue to finalize with each passing week. With the June official visit schedule now complete, most programs have the core of their class committed. Commitments over the coming months will slow to a trickle, those updates only mildly affecting the overall team rankings. Those rankings did receive a major shift earlier this week when Oregon added five-star interior offensive lineman Immanuel Iheanacho. Iheanacho is the Ducks' third five-star commitment in the class. His addition sent the Ducks' relatively small class of 14 commitments up near the nation's top 10. When the cycle concludes later this year, none should be surprised if Oregon approaches the top five. Notably, Oregon currently boasts the Big Ten's best average player rating (93.15). While different from 247Sports' national team rankings, which give significant weight to commit volume, average player rating is an important metric to use when comparing the conference's top-ranked groups. With that, here is Oregon, Wisconsin and every Big Ten recruiting class of 2026 ordered by average player rating, plus where each falls on 247Sports' current national team rankings. 2027 prospect Braylon Williams includes Longhorns in his top 20
Over the last few weeks the Texas Longhorns have been busy on the recruiting trail. On Saturday they continued to get good news when 2027 prospect Braylon Williams announced his top 20 schools heading into his junior campaign. The Longhorns were one of the teams to make the cut with plenty of time to build their relationship with Williams. While Williams would be a great addition to the Longhorns 2027 class, they do face competition. The other programs on his list are Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Iowa, Florida State, and Arizona State. Although the Longhorns have become a staple in the College Football Playoff, that is a tough list to go to battle against. Advertisement The heavy interest comes as no surprise. Currently, the Lamar High School product is ranked as the No. 21 linebacker in his class and the 42nd-best player from Texas, according to 247Sports. That could change depending on the numbers he puts up in his junior campaign. At the moment, the Longhorns only have one commitment in the 2027 class. That is four-star recruit Taven Epps. A defense with Epps and Williams would create a lot of headaches for defensive coordinators. For Steve Sarkisian and his staff, the focus now is getting Williams to campus for a visit. As Williams ways all his options, the Longhorns will be a program to watch. They have excelled at developing linebackers and have the advantage of being located in Williams's home state. If he can continue to build on his success, the Longhorns' desire to recruit him to the Forty Acres will likely be fulfilled, and he will continue to rise. Advertisement His decision is still months away, but it is a good sign for the Longhorns that they are one of the final 20. Will LSU football sign a high school quarterback in 2026 recruiting class?
LSU football is contending for college football's No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2026. The Tigers have 14 commits and both On3 and 247Sports rankings have LSU's average recruit rating as the best in the country. Brian Kelly and LSU don't have the same quantity as some other programs right now, but the quality of recruit is second to none. Despite that, LSU has not added a quarterback to the crop. And with 15 of the top 16 2026 QBs already committed, there's not much left on the board. The lone uncommitted player in that group is Landon Duckworth, but LSU isn't in the race for the four-star passer. The Tigers took a couple of recent swings at Bowe Bentley and Bryson Beaver, but Bentley pledged to Oklahoma and Beaver committed to Oregon. LSU didn't sign a high school quarterback in the 2025 class, either. LSU had a commitment from Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 recruit in the country, for most of the cycle, but Underwood flipped to Michigan in November. It was too late for LSU to find a high school class replacement, but the Tigers took Micahel Van Buren from the transfer portal. Van Buren saw significant action with Mississippi State as a true freshman and showed promise. He passed on a potential starting job at MSU to sit behind Nussmeier in 2025. It's rare to find a QB who is willing to sit with several years of eligibility in the portal, but that is what LSU is going to have to do again if the Tigers can't flip a high school quarterback. And right now, I'd say the chances of a major flip are slim. Most of the top QBs seem firm in their commitments and there's not much smoke with LSU. At this point, LSU would need some signing day drama. That can't be ruled out. Bentley is committed to Oklahoma, but Sooners' head coach Brent Venables could be on the hot seat if OU has another rough campaign in 2025. If Venables is out in Norman, LSU could swoop back in on Bentley. If USC falters and Lincoln Riley is forced to look for a new job, LSU could make another run at Jonas Williams, but Riley has momentum on the recruiting trail, and it's hard to see Riley being let go this fall after all the investments USC just made in his program. Verdict: Don't count on LSU to sign a high school quarterback in 2026. There aren't enough candidates on the board, but LSU could start throwing money around if the Tigers get desperate.
