Kashi Vishwanath temple gears up for Sawan rush, 1.5 crore devotees expected
Last year, the temple witnessed over one crore devotees performing Jalabhishek, a ritual offering of water to Lord Shiva. This year, the number is expected to soar even higher, and to accommodate the spiritual influx, extensive arrangements have been made by both the temple and district administrations.
To manage the crowds, zig-zag barricading has been put in place for a smooth and safe darshan experience. Carpets have been laid across the premises to prevent devotees from walking on the heated temple floor. Facilities like ORS solution, first aid, drinking water, and mobile toilets have been strategically arranged throughout the area.
Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas in Hinduism, holds immense spiritual significance. Devotees from across India and abroad travel to Varanasi during Sawan to offer water and perform rituals in reverence to Lord Shiva. The city transforms into a sea of devotion, as chants of "Har Har Mahadev" echo through its ghats and lanes.
Speaking to IANS, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, CEO of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, said, "Our SOP for crowd control during Sawan has been implemented. End-to-end barricading has been arranged, and German hangers have been installed to shelter devotees from the sun and rain. Health desks have been set up at five different points to offer emergency care."
He added, "We're distributing biscuits, flour, chocolate toffees, ORS, glucose, jaggery, and water to help devotees stay energised. Our health centre is also operational 24/7. Special arrangements like gold cards have been introduced for children, senior citizens, differently-abled, and physically challenged individuals to ensure they have a safe and comfortable darshan."
In addition to on-ground arrangements, digital broadcasting of temple rituals has also been initiated.
"Aartis are being streamed live through a dedicated web link shared with the Smart City project. Devotees can watch the live broadcasts from LED screens installed across Varanasi or online from the comfort of their homes," Mishra said.
Adding a spiritual and celebratory touch, flower showers—a tradition at the temple—will continue this year to welcome and bless the devotees.
Issuing a word of caution, the CEO urged restraint and prioritisation of health.
"The number of devotees shouldn't become a record-making contest. We urge those who are physically unfit to avoid the crowd and instead seek blessings through our live YouTube broadcast or visit during less crowded days," he concluded.

In the field of science, it may be possible to measure the reaction of an action, but in human life, an action nor its reaction can be calculated in precise terms. The Lord himself says doing an action is in the hands of man, but its fall out lies with the will of God. Will it be equal and opposite lies in the domain of mystery. Action and the Idea of Fate Every action has a dual perception. Laying bricks for a wall, also means we are building a house. Perhaps Newton was unaware of this fact that every action possesses a spiritual significance also, and it is added in our general account of goodness or evil, whatever it serves. In other words, when we say an action has an equal and opposite reaction, we have to enlarge the impact of this reaction to include the idea of fate as well. Whatever we encounter in our lives, is the result of our actions, done in the past incarnations. It is difficult to assess whether they are equal or not because it is embedded in mystery. In other words, the noise that we make, returns to us in the form of a roar. Winds do not mind our curses, nor trees hold our hand holding an axe, but soon, they turn into tempests and come back to punish us. When waters turn into tsunamis, it is nature which refuses to swallow insults. Actions of humanity which smack of madness and insensitivity, are visited not by equal and opposite reaction, but by calamities far greater in intent, intensity and manifestation. Mythology states that Indra resides at the peak of Meru, which is considered the Stairway to Heaven. This mountain is the one the Pandavas and Draupadi aimed to climb at the end of their lives, but only Yudhishthira, along with Dharma in the form of a dog, was able to reach the summit. Only a being without sins can ascend this mountain. Meru is said to be the home of Kubera, the god of wealth and king of yakshas. King Kesari, the father of Lord Hanuman, is also said to reside on Meru. Lord Shiva dwells on Mount Kailasha. In texts, Meru is described as having incredible dimensions, with its height said to be about one million kilometres—roughly 85 times the diameter of Earth. This towering mountain connects the earth to both heaven and the underworld. Buddhist mythology depicts Mount Meru in almost exactly the same way as Hinduism, as the centre of the world, with the same fantastic height. The Sun and the Moon revolve around Meru, and when the Sun goes behind it, night falls. Meru is said to be hourglass in shape, with a large square top and bottom, but a narrow stem in the middle. The base of the mountain is surrounded by a moat-like ocean, which in turn is encircled by a ring of mountains. There are seven seas and seven mountain rings like this. In Jainism, Mount Meru is again the centre of the world, and there are two sets of Sun, Moon and the stars resvolving around it. While one set does duty, the other set rests behind Meru. Whenever a Jain Tirthankara is born, Indra puts the mother into deep sleep and takes the newborn to his abode on the Meru peak, where his birth is celebrated by the Devas by bathing him and applying divine pastes.

Fatal plane crash in Austrian Alps claims four lives
A small plane that took off from neighboring Germany crashed in the Austrian Alps on Saturday, killing all four people on board, authorities propeller plane crashed near Wald im Pinzgau, in Salzburg province, at 12:45 p.m. local time and apparently burst into flames.
