Celtics' Joe Mazzulla had hilarious reaction to Jordan Walsh Summer League ejection

Yahooa day ago
Third-year Boston Celtics combo forward Jordan Walsh was in the midst of a pretty efficient run in the second quarter of a Summer League clash against the Miami Heat when he got a pair of quick technical fouls and saw himself ejected from the contest.
The 6-foot-7 Arkansas product couldn't quite crack head coach Joe Mazzulla's rotation on the 61-21 Celtics in 2024-25. In the 52 games he did play, he was generally on the floor for 7.8 mop-up minutes per. In those contests, Walsh averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 boards.

Now, in his third straight Summer League appearance, Walsh is looking to make waves.
Unfortunately, his intensity was dialed up a bit high early, when he got into the aforementioned fracas with Heat forward Pelle Larsson.
As Noa Dalzell of SB Nation indicates, the battle happened just in front of incoming majority owner Bill Chisholm and team president Brad Stevens.
The Heat went on to eke out a narrow 100-96 victory with Walsh on the shelf in the game's second half.
In just 10:06 of action, Walsh scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor (1-of-2 from distance) and 2-of-2 shooting from the foul line, pulled down three rebounds, and swiped two steals, while notching a plus-5 plus-minus.

After the contest, Walsh revealed that he apologized to Stevens for the incident, per Dalzell.
'That's not really me," Walsh said. "I'm more of a professional than that, more mature than that, so I just wanted to make sure that he knew that he knew that this wasn't gonna be a continuous thing."
Mazzulla, on the other hand, seemed to revel in Walsh's intensity from afar (he's not coaching in Summer League). Mazzulla texted Walsh after the ejection to indicate his enthusiasm for the moment.
'He told me he loved it," Walsh said. "Joe was hype.'

Fans pack TD Garden to see Caitlin Clark amid push for WNBA team in Boston

For many young families filing into TD Garden, Tuesday night felt like Christmas in July... as budding basketball fans finally got to enjoy their gift. "I'm going to go see Caitlin Clark!" a young girl exclaimed. Last year the Connecticut Sun made league history playing the first ever WNBA game in Boston. Now they sold out the Garden again, welcoming the Indiana Fever and the famed Caitlin Clark. The Fever beat the Sun 85-77. With the league growing in popularity, and amid reports the Sun might be sold, some leaders in Boston believe this is a no brainer. "I was looking at ticket prices a couple days ago and it was $100 for nosebleed seats. The excitement and fan base is here and a team would do really well in this city," said Boston City Councilor Brian Worrell, who filed a resolution which he hopes will get the league's attention. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey issued a proclamation declaring it "WNBA Day in Boston" and said the city should have its own team. "Boston is New England's capitol and hub, and would be the perfect place for a WNBA team," the proclamation said. Regardless of where the Sun sets, the momentum around the WNBA is helping even more fans fall in love with the game. And that means everything to their biggest fans. "I know when I was growing up it wasn't as prevalent. Now that she's able to grow up with women's sports everywhere and knowing she can do anything boys can do. I couldn't ask for anything more," said Amanda Fontaine.

Instant Analysis: Brewers Select Andrew Fischer in First Round of 2025 MLB Draft

Instant Analysis: Brewers Select Andrew Fischer in First Round of 2025 MLB Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The pick is in! The Milwaukee Brewers have made their selection on who will lead their 2025 MLB Draft class. Advertisement Holding the 20th overall selection in the first round, with a slot value of $4,268,100, the Brewers picked Tennessee 1B/3B Andrew Fischer. Who is this player and how does he fit in the organization? Here are some instant takeaways and analysis from the selection. Tennessee's Andrew Fischer (11) gestures as he rounds the bases after hitting a home run during game one of the NCAA baseball tournament Fayetteville Super Regional between Tennessee and Arkansas held at Baum-Walker Stadium on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Andrew Fischer, 1B/3B, Tennessee Back-to-back seasons the Brewers go with a corner infielder from the University of Tennessee. Andrew Fischer comes to the Crew in a bit of a surprise. While the Brewers have historically preferred up the middle players, they've now gone with a corner infielder in two of the last three Drafts, going back to Brock Wilken in 2023. Advertisement Offensively, Fischer is a prototypical corner infielder with big time raw power and a solid enough hit tool. In his lone season at Tennessee, replacing Blake Burke who is also in the Brewers system, Fischer hit .341/.497/.760 with 25 home runs with 63 walks and 42 strikeouts. Defensively, Fischer has experience at third base, but he lacks the range to continue to play there at the next level. He'll likely move to first base as he goes up through the system. The Brewers love players that make great swing decisions, it's a point of emphasis for their hitting development and Fischer makes some of the best swing decisions in this Draft. Despite being a power-over-hit guy, the hit tool is pretty solid and it's a well rounded look on offense. The Brewers are also likely getting some slot money savings here with this pick, allowing them the flexibility to be creative with their later selections. Fischer is the sixth straight position player in the first round for Milwaukee. Five of those six have been from the college ranks. Caitlin Clark leaves Fever victory with groin injury ahead of All-Star Game

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark sustained a groin injury late in Tuesday's 85-77 road win over the Connecticut Sun, Fever coach Stephanie White said after the game. Clark exited the contest with less than a minute left. '(She) just felt a little something in her groin,' White said. 'So, we'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there.' #Fever HC Stephanie White says Caitlin Clark "felt a little something in her groin." No update beyond that. For what it's worth, it looked like Clark grabbed at her *right* groin. She previously missed five games this season due to a *left* groin strain. | @TheAthleticWBB — James Boyd (@RomeovilleKid) July 16, 2025 White said Clark was being evaluated Tuesday night and would be evaluated again Wednesday morning ahead of the Fever's road game against the New York Liberty. '(We'll) see where we are, but this group has played without her,' White said. 'At least we've got experience in that. We know that we have a tough opponent in New York. We know that it's gonna be a challenge no matter what, and we just gotta get locked in and ready to work.' Advertisement Clark previously missed four games this year due to a left groin strain, but it's worth noting she grabbed her right groin Tuesday. The 23-year-old has also missed five games with a left quad injury. Indiana is 4-5 without Clark in the lineup. Before this season, Clark had never missed a game in her college or pro career. Clark suffered her latest injury while throwing a backdoor bounce pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who scored a layup with 39.1 seconds left in the game. After the play, the Sun called a timeout and Clark grimaced and grabbed her right groin. She walked down the court and banged her head off the stanchion underneath the basket on the other end in frustration. Clark eventually made her way to the bench and put a towel over her head. Veteran reserve guard Sydney Colson subbed in for Clark, who finished with 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting. She also had seven assists and eight rebounds. In addition to Wednesday's game at New York, Clark's availability is also uncertain for WNBA All-Star weekend, which will be held at the Fever's home arena, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis. The league announced Tuesday that Clark would compete in the 3-point contest on Friday for the first time, and she's scheduled to make her second consecutive start in the All-Star Game on Saturday. Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games this season. If she is sidelined for a while, fellow All-Star Mitchell, backup point guard Aari McDonald and Colson will likely shoulder more of the team's ball-handling duties.
