Ayo Edebiri really committed to a joke about being Irish and Conan O'Brien loves it

CNN4 days ago
Conan O'Brien loves a good bit. Ayo Edebiri has given him a great one.
'The Bear' star began a joke back in March 2023 at the South by Southwest in which she pretended to be Irish. Edebiri kept it up, claiming she played the role of Jenny the donkey in the Ireland-set film, 'The Banshees of Inisherin.'
'I wanted to congratulate you, because you started this joke which you improvised, a joke about being Irish, and then you kept going,' O'Brien told Edebiri during a recent conversation on his 'Conan O' Brien Needs a Friend' podcast.
'There's this crucial point where a joke either becomes like, 'Okay that's enough, I've done it enough, I should stop,' or you double, triple, and quadruple down on it and refuse to let it go, which you did,' he continued. 'Now it has resonated so much that the people of Ireland have accepted you as one of their own, which they will not do with me.'
O'Brien said he has the opposite impact with the people of Ireland.
'I am this figure of great shame in Ireland,' he quipped.
'But you, you got a day in Boston, and you're revered by the Irish people,' he said. 'I am rightfully loathed by the Irish and never a day in Boston.'
Edebiri explained how it all came about.
'I remember talking about this with a friend. I was like, 'My favorite type of joke low-key might be a lie,'' she said. 'Like, something where it's almost not even funny, it's mostly just funny to me.'
Edebiri, who like O'Brien is from Boston, tried to encourage him and said, 'I think your day could come.'

Kelly Osbourne Debunks Rumors About Dad Ozzy Osbourne's Health and Clarifies ‘He's Not Dying'

Kelly Osbourne is speaking out about her dad Ozzy Osbourne's health She confirmed that he is "not dying" amid online speculation about her parents' suicide pact Ozzy recently announced his new memoir Last Rites will be released on Oct. 7Kelly Osbourne is shutting down claims about her father Ozzy Osbourne's health. Kelly, 40, shared a video on her Instagram Stories on Friday, July 11, detailing claims circulating online about her father's health. "So, there's this video going around on social media, and it's supposed to be my dad, but it's AI," she began. She continued, "And it has a voice like my dad's David Attenborough or something. And it starts out saying, 'I don't need a doctor to tell me that I'm going to die. I know I'm going to die.' What the f---- is wrong with you people? Why would you spend your time making a video like this?" Kelly then clarified where her father's health stands. "He's not dying," she said. "Yes, he has Parkinson's, and yes, his mobility is completely different than it used to be, but he's not dying. What is wrong with you?" Kelly then re-shared the AI-generated video, which referred to a suicide pact that her mother Sharon Osbourne previously spoke about having with Ozzy, 76, should one of them be close to death. Sharon, 72, initially addressed the subject in her 2007 memoir Survivor: My Story - The Next Chapter, where she said that the couple would go to the Swiss physician-assisted suicide organization Dignitas, should either of them suffer from dementia. The subject was raised again in a 2023 episode of the The Osbournes Podcast. During the family's conversation, Jack Osbourne, 39, inquired if euthanasia was "still a plan" for his parents. 'Do you think that we're gonna suffer?' Sharon replied, while laughing, before Jack probed: 'Aren't we already all suffering?' 'Yes, we all are, but I don't want it to actually hurt, as well,' his mother added. "Mental suffering is enough pain without physical. So if you've got mental and physical, see ya." In another Instagram Stories video from July 11, Kelly said of the suicide pact, "Stop making articles or posts about how you think my parents are having a suicide pact. That was bulls--- my mom said to get attention one time." "And my dad's not dying. Stop," she reiterated. Ozzy recently announced his upcoming memoir, Last Rites, on Thursday, July 10. Last Rites will be available Oct. 7, 2025, wherever books are sold. Read the original article on People

'Finding Your Roots'' Henry Louis Gates Jr. Presents Pope Leo with Family Tree, Confirming His Surprising Celebrity Relatives

Henry Louis Gates Jr. the host and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated PBS show Finding Your Roots, traveled to the Vatican on July 5 to meet with Pope Leo XIV to present his genealogical research His research confirmed that Pope Leo XIV is related to several celebrities including Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Justin Bieber, among others It was also confirmed that Pope Leo has mixed Black and European ancestryHenry Louis Gates Jr. is taking on his latest genealogy adventure! On Saturday, July 5, the host and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated PBS show Finding Your Roots traveled to the Vatican to meet with Pope Leo XIV to present his genealogical research on his family tree. Gates, 74, confirmed that the first American pontiff is related to Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Justin Bieber, Pierre and Justin Trudeau, Hilary Clinton, and Jack Kerouac, which was previously reported by The New York Times. Pope Leo, 69 is ninth-cousin several times removed to the high profile bunch, and they are linked through a maternal ancestor who was born in the 1590s, per Gates' research. Additionally, the pope has two freedom fighters in his family tree, and has multiracial lineage. Gates was able to trace Pope Leo's ancestry back 15 generations, and confirmed that several of his ancestors were enslaved people, while others in his lineage were slaveholders. He also has mixed Black and European ancestry. In his post, which featured several photos from their visit, Gates wrote: "On Saturday, my wife, the historian Dr. Marial Iglesias Utset, and I were granted the profound honor of a private audience with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican to present him with a copy of his family tree." "She and I had worked with an outstanding team of researchers to publish it in The New York Times Sunday Magazine and were deeply grateful for the chance to walk His Holiness through the branches of his family tree, sharing stories of his ancestors back to his 12th great-grandparents who were born some 500 years ago," he continued. "This was one of the most meaningful and deeply moving moments of our lives." According to the Chicago Sun Times, Prevost was raised by his parents, Louis, an educator, and Mildred, a librarian, alongside his two siblings, Louis and John. He is also a dual citizen of Peru, having previously served as the leader of the Augustinian order after serving as the bishop of the city of Chiclayo, Peru. Sacred Heart University catholic studies professor Dr. Charlie Gillepsie previously told PEOPLE that the new pope's election is a 'clear signal that the College of Cardinals felt the calling of the spirit to elect someone for the whole globe.' Gillepsie said he was 'surprised and excited," about the first American pontiff. ABC News spoke to one of his two brothers, John Prevost, upon Pope Leo's election to the papacy. "I don't know how many people will find it interesting, but when he was in first grade, a woman across the street that we used to play with the kids, and a woman down the street said he would be the first American pope. In first grade, they said that," said Prevost in May. New episodes of Finding Your Roots air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on PBS, and are available to stream online. Read the original article on People
