Congress should be strengthened at grassroots to keep fascist forces away, says TNCC president

The Hindua day ago
The Congress should be strengthened to defeat fascist and communal forces that are working overtime to gobble Tamil Nadu in the 2026 Assembly elections, according to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai.
Addressing a party meeting here on Saturday to accelerate formation of village Congress committees in every hamlet of Tirunelveli district, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said INDIA Bloc had set the target of winning more than 200 Assembly segments in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 Assembly elections, and this could be achieved only if the Congress was strong enough at all levels.
Hence, 21,000 village committees were being formed across the State, each with a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and 10 committee members. If the Congress was strengthened before the polls, no one could ignore it and its cadre's dream of getting more Assembly seats and more positions in local bodies would get realised, he said.
'Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are working hard to wipe out the Congress, the party that created a new India from scratches after Independence, is still alive and vibrant enough to rule three States despite the sinister designs of the RSS and its BJP,' he said.
Nanguneri MLA and TNCC treasurer Ruby R. Manoharan, who has formed village Congress committees in all villages of his Assembly constituency, said the resounding victory of INDIA Bloc in the 2026 Assembly elections would herald the elimination of Modi-led 'autocratic governance'.
Killiyoor MLA Rajesh Kumar said the Congress was still active in Tamil Nadu due to the party cadre even though it lost its power in 1967. 'If we strengthen the party at the village level, we can take on the miserably failed autocratic administration of the Narendra Modi-led government. Moreover, we can fight for the welfare of the villages by getting its due share for creating due infrastructure in rural areas,' he said.
Former MLA and Congress restructuring committee president S. Peter Alphonse said the formation of village committee would give the much-needed opportunity to identify the party's strengths and weaknesses and take appropriate remedial measures.
Tirunelveli MP C. Robert Bruce urged the TNCC president to get a minimum of two Assembly segments in Tirunelveli district for the Congress in the 2026 Assembly elections.

KTR accepts Revanth Reddy's challenge to debate on Telangana farmers' issues

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has accepted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's challenge for a public debate on farmers' issues. Rao, popularly known as KTR, said he was ready to confront the Chief Minister anywhere, anytime and dared him to fix the date, time and came after Reddy demanded KTR to have a debate with him on farmers' aim at Reddy, KTR alleged the Chief Minister lacked basic knowledge about agriculture and governance. "I am giving him 72 hours to prepare so that he doesn't end up embarrassing himself by mistaking a basin for a vegetable. This is for his own good," KTR remarked sarcastically while speaking to reporters. Asserting he was ready for the debate, KTR offered to meet at any location chosen by the Chief Minister - whether in Reddy's own constituency of Kodangal, his native village Kondareddypally, or even at the Ambedkar statue or Somajiguda Press Club in Hyderabad. "This is not about mudslinging. Let's put the facts out there. Let's see who really worked for Telangana's farmers," he accused Reddy of betraying Telangana by diverting the state's water to Andhra Pradesh, and claimed that the Chief Minister was acting under the influence of TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. "Revanth has turned Telangana into an ATM for the Congress high command. He's running a puppet government, not a people's one," he what he called the success of the BRS regime, KTR said that agriculture in Telangana had been transformed into a celebration under K Chandrasekhar Rao's regime. He credited the BRS with initiatives like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Mission Kakatiya and large-scale irrigation projects that, according to him, turned the state into the top paddy producer in the said during the Covid-19 crisis, the BRS set up thousands of procurement centres to ensure that not a single grain went to waste during its rule."Who brought Godavari water into the dry lands of Telangana? Who revived rivers like Kudelii, Haldi and Manjeera? Who stopped farmer suicides and tackled the fluoride crisis? It was KCR, not the Congress," he further accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on its promises, citing the non-payment of farm loan waivers, pensions and crop support schemes. 'Where is the Rs 15,000 per acre support you promised? Where is the Rs 4,000 pension? What happened to the Rs 2,500 allowance for women, free scooters or the 2 lakh jobs?' he asked."The only people happy today are Revanth and his coterie, looting like the Dandupalya gang. Auto drivers, farmers, young people, the elderly, women - none of them are satisfied. Dalits won't vote for a non-functional Dalit Bandhu scheme. Unemployed people won't vote for jobs that never came. Farmers won't vote for a Bharosa scheme that's still pending," he to KTR, every major welfare promise made by the Congress had been either been broken or delayed. "Farmers were promised support for three crops - they haven't even supported one fully. While KCR gave Rs 10,000 per acre on time, Revanth gave just one installment and threw a party," he Reddy's administration a "classic Congress drama", KTR said, 'When Congress talks about farmer welfare, it's like ghosts quoting scriptures. This government is an insult to democracy, just like the Indiramma era when people were jailed during the Emergency.'KTR reminded that even the Centre had acknowledged in Parliament that the BRS stopped farmer suicides and ended the fluoride crisis in Telangana. "Those who can't understand facts are called fools. Those who knowingly deny them are called Revanth Reddy. The truth is known to every villager, every field in Telangana,' he said.- Ends IN THIS STORY#Telangana#Bharat Rashtra Samithi#Indian National Congress

TGMDC chairman slams BRS, BJP over comments against Revanth government

Telangana Mineral Development Corporation (TGMDC) Chairman Anil Kumar Eeravathri flayed the Opposition parties, accusing both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing the people of Telangana, particularly the Backward Classes (BC). Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Mr. Anil Kumar advised BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao not to compare himself with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, stating that KTR cannot match Mr. Reddy in any aspect. 'You need not worry about Mr. Revanth Reddy. I'm enough to debate with you on any issues. Let's meet at the Press Club and discuss everything,' he challenged KTR. The former MLA accused the BRS regime of being responsible for the financial distress of the State. 'Your family has bankrupted Telangana. In some Arab countries, people are stoned in stadiums for such betrayal, and such harsh punishment wouldn't be unjustified,' he said. Training his guns at the new BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao, he questioned the BJP's commitment to BCs. 'There is no social justice in your party. You are from the Open Category (OC), your former president Kishan Reddy is an OC, and your assembly floor leader Maheshwar Reddy is an OC. You talk about BC welfare, but where is the representation?' he questioned. Mr. Anil Kumar also slammed BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha for her plans to conduct rail roko demanding implementation of 42% reservation for the Backward Classes accusing the BRS that it had not done anything in this regard under their rule.
