Friends dress as Beefeaters to cheer on cyclists
"I think you've got to be a specific person, we're a unique group," Dave said."I was fortunate enough to join because of Andy. I've never looked back since – it's a phenomenal experience, a great party."Often selecting a gruelling hill-climbing stage, the men form a 'Beefeater Bend' around a corner of the course, to spur competitors on.They have even been known to bust a move or two, famously captured in a 2015 video where they danced along to Links Rechts, a popular song played at Dutch sporting events.Most recently, the friends made the trip across the Channel to attend the 16th stage of the Tour de France, on Mont Ventoux.While none of the group can claim the official title of beefeater, they have been advised on their outfits by the real deal. One of the warders contacted the group on social media to give some tips on what they had got right and wrong, Dave said.In 2017, the group was invited with family and friends to attend the Ceremony of the Keys in London, and meet some of their real-life counterparts. "It's such a privilege that the Beefeaters are watching our activity while we're out in France, and obviously they like what we do, so it's great," Andy said.Having hung their costumes up after this year's event, discussions have already begun about which stage to attend in 2026.Andy added that the group was especially excited about the Tour's return to the UK in 2027."The route starts in Edinburgh – that's going to be huge one," he said."If you've not experienced it before, get yourself to that one, anyone who wants to party or who loves cycling, because that's going to be a big one."

The Archers Podcast is released weekly every Friday, immediately after The Archers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It is usually presented by Emma Freud, who is on holiday this week. Rock star Dave Edmunds critically ill in hospital after dying in wife's arms from cardiac arrest
The Christmas number one hitmaker suffered a cardiac arrest in hospital before being revived but is now in a critical condition. Rock icon Dave Edmunds is in a critical state in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and dying in his wife's arms before he was revived. The 81-year-old, who made Christmas number one with his hit song I Hear You Knocking, is said to have died in his wife's arms before being resuscitated. The musician is now in hospital with brain damage and severe memory loss. Dave's devastated wife shared the news in a Facebook post, where she recalled the terrifying moment in which Dave had CPR performed on him by a nurse. In the post, she wrote: "My beloved husband of 40 years has had a major cardiac arrest". Cici explained that Dave had "died in my arms while I desperately tried to keep him alive". She added that a nurse was with her at the time and performed "heavy CPR" on the rockstar. Devoted wife Cici revealed the nurse said she was "gonna stop" as "Dave is gone" but Cici "refused to give up" and the nurse continued "heavy duty CPR" on the star, the Mirror reports. She then revealed "by a miracle" Dave was revived by doctors at an intensive care unit operating room. However, the incident has left Dave with brain damage, severe memory loss and is 'at risk' of another cardiac arrest as his wife said he has a "long journey ahead of him". Cici also admitted she has "PTSD from the horrific experience". She concluded the post: "Dave will have a very long journey ahead of him if he survives. We both have. But knowing that there are kind hearted people such as you all makes this tremendously difficult journey a little easier. Bless you all. Sending you all much love and light and always." Cici was flooded with messages of love and support by fans as the comments as one wrote: "All my love, support and prayers to Dave, and please stay on your road to recovery, CiCi." Another penned: "Sweet Cicci. The nightmare you both are going through is unimaginable... All my [heart] your way..." A third commented: "Dear Cici, what you're both going through is unbelievable, and I hope it all comes to a happy end! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and wish you both all the be".
