Saudi Arabia completes departure of Iranian pilgrims

RIYADH: The Ministry of Interior has completed departure procedures for Iranian Hajj pilgrims leaving through the Jadidat Arar border crossing in the Northern Borders region.
This was done following directives from King Salman and based on a recommendation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
The aim was to support Iran's pilgrims amid the current circumstances in their country and provide necessary services until they can safely return home after completing Hajj.
The ministry, through its sectors and affiliated entities, deployed all human and technical resources to facilitate the pilgrims' movement, the SPA reported.
It coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure smooth and organized transport to the border within an integrated service and security framework.
Alireza Bayat, head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization in Iran, recently praised Saudi Arabia for assisting the pilgrims, noting the quality organization and services at border crossings and other locations.
He said Iran's pilgrims were satisfied with the support they had received and for the excellent organization of the Hajj.

They noted that bilateral trade between the two countries reached about $31.5 billion over the past five years, making Saudi Arabia Indonesia's top trading partner in the region. Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to grow trade volume, increase mutual visits between public and private sector officials, and hold business events through the Saudi-Indonesian Business Council to explore promising opportunities and transform them into tangible partnerships. The two parties welcomed the positive outcomes of the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Indonesia, held in September 2024 and February 2025. They expressed hope that the agreement would be finalized in the near future. Both sides also praised the current level of coordination and efforts between government entities and leading companies in both nations. They reaffirmed their commitment to building on these achievements to strengthen investment relations and expand the scope of strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced ambitious plans to scale up its diplomatic and economic presence in Africa, aiming to boost its investments on the continent to more than $25 billion by 2030, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen development and economic partnerships with African nations. Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji said the Kingdom intends to expand its network of embassies across the continent to more than 40 in the coming years, underscoring Riyadh's commitment to deepening its engagement with Africa. Speaking at a reception marking Africa Day at the Cultural Palace in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter, Al-Khuraiji revealed that Saudi Arabia would provide $10 billion in export financing and secure an additional $5 billion in development funding for African countries by the end of the decade. 'Africa holds a central position in the Kingdom's foreign policy and diplomatic outreach,' Al-Khuraiji said, noting that Saudi Arabia is keen to enhance cooperation in trade, integration, and multilateral coordination on shared global issues. He added that the Kingdom has already contributed more than $45 billion to development and humanitarian projects in 54 African countries. Of that, over $450 million was provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to support efforts in 46 African nations.
