July 29 South Africa (Kenilworth) form analysis
(7) SAUDI CAT won very impressively on debut, even though the market suggested that he might have needed the run. He will take a lot of beating again.
(3) ALL THE RAGE ran a cracking third behind Roland Garros last time. Now that he is back up the straight again at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, he could trouble them all in the finish.
(2) DEMANDING DAVE has been rested for 86 days. He finished like a train in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery last time. His form is very good, so if he does not need the run badly, he will have a good place chance.
(5) SPIRIT won well last time. It was his first run back after gelding, and he finished strongly to win going away. Watch him closely.
Race 2 (1,000m)
(2) SWIFT SERENITY was just off the speed early last time, and then stayed on nicely for third. If she can build on her recent performance, she will have a massive winning chance.
(4) ALESSIA ASHEVILLE has been rested for 125 days. She has run two very good races in succession from wide draws at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. If she does not need the run badly, she will have a big winning chance at a decent price.
(3) HERITAGE RIDGE ran a fair race last time behind Clair De Lune. She has been well tried in the maiden ranks and her form is consistent. A good place chance.
(7) PENNYS CHOICE disappointed terribly last time when she was very one-paced. The blinkers have now been fitted, hopefully that will help her improve.
Race 3 (1,500m)
(2) SIERRA SAGRADA was a touch unlucky in his first run back after gelding, where he caught the eye late when running on powerfully. He will take a lot of beating from a good draw.
(3) RED WAVE has been rested for 69 days. He ran a terrific race over 1,000m last time, now steps up in trip and gets a neat draw. Watch him closely.
(1) GETUPANDGO has been rested for 65 days. He is better than what his form is showing, so watch for major improvement now that he steps up in trip.
(7) GREEN COMMANDER ran a shocker last time. The step-up in trip might help him improve.
Race 4 (1,200m)
(5) GIMMELIGHTNING has run two lovely races in succession behind progressive sorts. He enjoys the underfoot conditions being on the softer side. He will be switched off early, and will come with a strong run late. Include him in all bets.
(1) SURGE OF POWER bounced back to form last time when he won. The talented sprinter was given two points for that gutsy victory, and if he can back up that performance, he will go very close to winning.
(4) SCOTTISH KISS must have a good each-way chance. He ran a nice race behind Boogiefied last time over 1,400m. If the drop in trip does not worry him, he will be right there at the finish.
(3) MAURITIUS KESTREL gets the tongue-tie fitted. He is very consistent and has dropped in the ratings. Watch him closely.
Race 5 (1,100m)
(9) DU MAURIER won her maiden in stylish fashion up the straight at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time. She travelled beautifully before quickening away from the field to win convincingly. There is absolutely no doubt that she will go very close to winning again.
(11) ROSA OSIRIA ran a lovely race last time behind Over The Atlantic. She fought hard all the way to the line and never really runs a bad race. If she can bring her last performance to the track again, she will be very competitive.
(7) GOLDEN TATJANA ran a shocker behind Pink Pigeon last time. She is much better than that, and has dropped even further in the ratings. She gets the services of leading jockey Gavin Lerena, and could be the value in this tricky-looking race.
(1) GOLDEN IDEAL has run some fair races in her career. Top jockey Richard Fourie gets the ride on this filly. On her best form, she will have a good winning chance.
Race 6 (1,600m)
(3) KING'S QUEST won really well last time at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. He was given four points for that impressive victory. Again, he gets a nice draw and must have a good winning chance.
(2) AFRIQUE ran second to King's Quest last time. He was doing some good work late. Now that he is better off at the weights, he must have an obvious winning chance. Include him in all bets.
(6) BEL CANTO DREAM ran a good race in testing conditions last time. He was just off the speed early, and then stayed on well enough to finish just over four lengths behind the winner. Even though he carries a big weight, he should be among the places on his best form.
(5) SHOW OFF had no luck in running from a wide draw last time, but he still managed to run a decent race behind King's Quest. With a decent draw, he can be very dangerous in the finish.
Race 7 (1,600m)
(4) STATE CAPITOL moved up like a winner in her last start behind Baton Rouge. Her form of late has been excellent. If this race has not come too soon for her, she will take a lot of beating.
(5) MIDWAY found solid support in the market last time. He was given a great ride by jockey Luyolo Mxothwa to win a gutsy race. It was a deserved victory for this gelding, and he was given two points for that win. On his current form, he can win again.
(2) SAINT BRIGID stayed on well for third behind Music Of The Night up the straight at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time. She is consistent and this does look to be a better trip for her, so she could be running on strongly.
(10) MELA STRENGTH never runs a bad race, but the wide draw and the big weight would not make life easy for him. If he gets some luck in the running, he could sneak into the quartet.

Alexander Isak missing from Newcastle squad bound for Singapore
SINGAPORE – Newcastle United fans in Singapore will not get the chance to see the English Premier League side's star striker Aleksandar Isak in action when they take on Arsenal at the National Stadium on July 27, after the Swede was left out of the squad who departed England on July 24. Isak, 25, is nursing a thigh injury and will continue his rehabilitation in England while his teammates play pre-season games in Singapore, followed by South Korea. The injury was also the reason he missed Newcastle's first pre-season game – a 4-0 defeat by Scottish side Celtic on July 19 – although Magpies manager Eddie Howe admitted after the match that speculation surrounding an exit was also part of his consideration. Premier League champions Liverpool have been strongly linked with a high-profile move for Isak for most of the summer transfer window, although talk has cooled somewhat after the Reds confirmed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt's French striker Hugo Ekitike for £69 million (S$119 million) on July 23. Any deal for Isak, who has scored 54 goals in 86 Premier League games for Newcastle in the last three seasons, would likely see a figure upwards of £120m. Howe had previously said he expected Isak to join the team for their tour in East Asia. Aside from Isak, the only senior player missing from Newcastle's squad bound for Singapore is backup goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. England left back Lewis Hall, who suffered an ankle injury in February that cut his season short, has been included, as has winger Anthony Elanga, a £55m recruit from Nottingham Forest, After playing Arsenal, Newcastle are will play a K-League selection side at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on July 30, and then Tottenham Hotspur on Aug 3 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Andy Farrell faces Lions selection dilemma for ‘biggest game of our lives'
Find out what's new on ST website and app. MELBOURNE – British and Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell was mulling his options on July 23 ahead of 'the biggest game of our lives', with some selection conundrums for the second Test against Australia. The tourists have won all seven games in Australia so far, including a polished 27-19 victory over the Wallabies in the first Test at Brisbane last weekend. They can wrap up the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 26 and are aiming to write their names in the history books. 'If you can't get up for what's coming, we're all in the wrong place,' Farrell said after a second-string Lions weathered a storm against a First Nations and Pasifika XV on July 22. 'To me, this is the biggest game of our lives for every one of us who is part of our squad.' The Lions beat the Pasifika side 24-19 to maintain their perfect record on Australian soil, but it was not always pretty with the hosts' physicality and never-say-die attitude creating problems. 'There will have to be plenty of improvement to get to the point where there's a win on the cards because we know that Australia are going to be a lot better,' Farrell added. Top stories Swipe. We weren't earning the right to play.' Farrell said before the match it was a late chance for players to make a case for selection in the Test 23 and a decision must now be made on whether Scottish fullback Blair Kinghorn did enough to oust Ireland's Hugo Keenan from the starting side. British media reports suggested first-choice lock Joe McCarthy and wing Mack Hansen will not be fit for the clash against Australia, with those positions also at stake. Farrell's son Owen, who was overlooked for the first Test, skippered the side on July 22 and was both composed and influential. Four-time Lions head coach Ian McGeechan told Sky Sports the 'Test-match animal' made a strong case to be included in the matchday squad. Asked about his son's performance, Farrell only said: 'Nice little chip off the left peg. Some good things from him.' Should Owen Farrell get the nod, Marcus Smith appears the likely fall guy. Smith came on as a replacement against Pasifika but departed for a Head Injury Assessment (HIA), which Farrell said he passed and was available for selection. AFP
