Fujairah International Airport celebrates IndiGo's inaugural flights to Mumbai, Kannur
FUJAIRAH (WAM)Fujairah International Airport celebrated a major milestone on Thursday with the official launch of IndiGo Airlines' inaugural flights to Mumbai and Kannur, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing connectivity between Fujairah and key Indian cities.This collaboration strengthens travel links, boosts tourism, and promotes economic exchange between the UAE and India.The arrival of the inaugural aircraft was marked by a formal welcome ceremony attended by senior dignitaries, including Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul-General of India to Dubai; Mohamed Abdulla Al Salami, Chairman of the Fujairah Department of Civil Aviation; Capt. Esmaeil M. Al Boloushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport; Ebraheim Alqallaf, Deputy General Manager; and Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, alongside senior officials from the government and private sector.In his keynote address, Al Salami highlighted the broader strategic vision behind the launch, saying, 'This event marks not just the launch of a new route, but the opening of strategic avenues of cooperation and collaboration between our two great nations.'Highlighting Fujairah's natural beauty, cultural heritage, and growing appeal as a destination, he emphasised that the new routes would serve as a gateway for the Indian community, enriching tourism and business interactions.'IndiGo's commitment to affordable and quality travel resonates deeply with the needs of our community,' he added.Capt. Al Boloushi commented, 'We are pleased to mark the launch of IndiGo's first flights to Mumbai and Kannur — a significant step in enhancing direct connectivity between Fujairah and India.'He further noted the wider benefits of the new routes, pointing out that travellers from Fujairah now have convenient access to major Asian destinations via IndiGo's expanding network, including the Maldives, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Dhaka, Colombo, Seychelles and Kathmandu.
To further enhance passenger convenience, Fujairah International Airport has introduced a free transportation service connecting all seven Emirates, making access to the airport more seamless for travelers across the UAE.

UAE launched the Federal Government Strategic Plan 2031, which focuses on using AI to streamline processes and improve management of government resources. The plan will help create a "smarter, faster, and more efficient government," said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. The country is using AI to gain large-scale data to gauge laws' impact on citizens and residents, which will in turn help create more effective legislation. In a significant move, UAE announced last month that the National Artificial Intelligence System will be adopted as an advisory member of the Cabinet, the Ministerial Development Council, and all boards of directors of federal entities and government companies, starting in January 2026. UAE is also one of the first countries to teach AI in public schools from Kindergarten, ensuring that the next generation grows with a firm understanding of this tool, empowering them to use it wisely.

Discussions On Draft Joint Declaration At BRICS Summit Showing Sharp Divide
By Nitya Chakraborty On the eve of the 17th BRICS Summit scheduled at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on July 6 and 7, the ongoing discussions among the senior officials of the member countries for the preparation of the draft joint declaration from the Summit, are showing big divergence of views on the two major issues- Trump's tariff war and the Israeli role in the latest war in West Asia. Right now, the tariff issue is the most important one of the majority of the BRICS members including India. The host country Brazil is interested in using strong words in the draft against President Trump's unilateral decision on reciprocal tariffs. The 90 day pause announced by the US President expires on July 9. Already, the US administration has started issuing letters to the trade partner countries who have till now not negotiated the deals. The BRICS declaration to be issued on July 7 will take into account the latest position after the issuing of letters and make its position clear in the draft decrying the unilateralism of the USA. Presently BRICS has eleven full members the first five China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa and the new six Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Ethiopia and Indonesia. Brazilian President Inacio de Silva Lula, better known as Lula is taking the leading role in the shaping of the declaration along with South Africa and other members. Indian officials are keen that a special mention is made of the threat of terror to India from Pakistan in the declaration in the context of the BRICS nations fight against terrorism. It is to be seen to what extent Prime Minister Narendra Modi can reshape the draft declaration and make it tuned to India's stand on terrorism and Pakistan. Chinese President Xi Jinping is not attending, China will be represented by the Prime Minister Li Quiang. Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be physically attending but there is a possibility that he will address the BRICS Summit through a video call. Iranian President is not attending but Iran is represented by a very senior minister. Iran has already mentioned that it wants the draft declaration to incorporate strong language against both Israel and USA. But Egyptian and Saudi officials have suggested restraint. Indications suggest that the draft has to be finalized at the Summit level as lot of divergences are expected to remain in the draft before its consideration by the Summit leaders. As regards India, the officials taking part in the discussions for draft declaration, are finding the situation a bit delicate. Indian officials are at the final stages of discussions on trade deal. President Trump has already said that the deal will be ready shortly. It can be ready even before July 9. So India's relationship with USA and the present geo political position do not permit the Indian side to take a strong position against the US on tariff issue. India and many other members do not want to name the USA as the villain in the final declaration. The possibility is the US or Trump will not be named but the opposition to the unilateral actions will be conveyed strongly. In fact, the reality is that it is just not India or Egypt, even China and Russia also are not favouring a strong anti-US declaration. China has already concluded its trade deal with the US while President Putin is depending on President Trump to bail him out of Ukraine crisis. Iran's forceful participation in the discussion has made the task of choosing right line on Middle East crisis tougher. Sources say that Iran has taken very one sided position pushing for a very critical stance against the USA which the other countries are finding difficult to agree. Brazilian officials are trying their best to work on a common ground on Middle East crisis. If the differences still remain, it is up to the Summit leaders to fine tune the draft and make it acceptable to all. BRICS comprises a mix of emerging and developing economies, each with unique strengths and challenges. China has the largest economy within the bloc, while India, Brazil, and Russia also hold significant economic weight. South Africa, while smaller in terms of GDP, plays a crucial role in the African continent. BRICS economies collectively account for nearly half of world's GDP, with its rate of economic growth surpassing the global average. Two BRICS members China and India are the drivers of the growth of global economy. BRICS has emerged as a counterweight to the dominance of traditional economic powers, contributing to a more multipolar world order. Economists hold the view that BRICS economic profile reflects a dynamic and influential force in the global economy, driven by the collective strength and diverse capabilities of the member nations. China is the second largest economy in the world after the top performer USA. India is expected to be the third largest economy after USA and China by GDP is projected to be $ 2.75 trillion by 2028 making it the eighth largest economy in the world. Russia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia also have high prospects of growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has got an opportunity to dominate the proceedings at the Rio de Janeiro Summit as he leads the largest democracy in the world. Following the absence of President Xi Jinping, he will also be the most prominent head of state attending this Summit. It is to be seen how the Indian PM makes use of his clout to influence the deliberations and help in making the joint declaration favourable to Indian stand on terror and Pakistan. (IPA Service)

UAE: May 2025 IB results out, meet school toppers with perfect score
Several students in the UAE recorded outstanding performances in the May 2025 International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, with scores well above the global average. The results were released on Saturday, July 5. Among the standout performers at Innoventures education were Alia Abdelhamid and Melis Yilmaz from Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills (DIA EH), who achieved a perfect score of 45 — a distinction earned by just 0.1 per cent of IB Diploma candidates worldwide. According to the results shared with Khaleej Times, students from three schools under this group — DIA Emirates Hills, DIA Al Barsha, and Raffles World Academy — posted a 100 per cent pass rate. Across these campuses, two students scored the maximum 45 points, four achieved 44, and nearly a quarter of the graduating class scored 40 or more points. The graduating cohort has secured offers from some of the world's most prestigious institutions, including Cambridge, Stanford, Cornell, Imperial College London, UC Berkeley, King's College London, and the London School of Economics, New York University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of St Andrew's, among others. The toppers Alia Abdelhamid and Melis Yilmaz from DIA Emirates Hills scored a perfect 45 points. At DIA Al Barsha, Kanishka Kesharwani emerged as the top scorer with 44 points. Alia Abdelhamid from DIA EH who bagged the perfect score said, 'I feel deeply thankful for the incredible support I received from DIA Emirates Hills during my IB journey. The commitment of my teachers and the broader school community created an environment where I could truly thrive. I'm proud of what we've accomplished together.' Melis Yilmaz, also from DIA EH, was very happy to attain 45/45 and said, 'My IB journey at Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills has been truly transformative. The demanding academic environment, combined with unwavering support, has fostered both intellectual and personal growth. The strong sense of community and the constant encouragement to think critically and embrace a global perspective have equipped me for the future in ways I could never have imagined." Reflecting on the school's performance and the students' achievements, Hitesh Bhagat, Principal of DIA Emirates Hills, said, 'These results speak volumes about the dedication of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the strength of our school community. We are thrilled to see our students continue to reach new heights and take their place at the world's leading universities.' Kanishka Kesharwani from DIA Al Barsha, who emerged as the top scorer with 44 points, said, "It was surreal to open my result to see 44 after the year I had - gut-wrenching mocks and loads of all-nighters with endless fits of laughter and cries to put in my best effort for my exams. Deeply grateful for the person DIAB has made me, and for the support my family and friends have given me over the last couple of years." Commendable journey Meanwhile, across seven GEMS schools that offer the IB diploma programme, three students attained the maximum score possible of 45. A total of 645 Grade 12/Year 13 students from these schools across the UAE sat for these exams this year. Together, they achieved an average point score of 34 and a pass rate of 95 per cent, exceeding the 2024 global averages of 30 points and 80 per cent respectively.
