Around 950 mn Indians beneficiaries of social security schemes: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that today, around 950 million people in the country are benefitting from one or another social security scheme.
In his monthly Mann ki Baat address, PM Modi said that until 2015, government schemes could reach even fewer than 250 million people.
"Recently, an important report from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was released. The report states that more than 64 per cent of India's population is now receiving some form of social protection benefit," he said.
According to the ILO report, India's social security coverage stood at 64.3 per cent in 2025, up sharply from just 19 per cent a decade ago. The report, released recently, assessed data from 32 central and state-level schemes.
These included 24 pension schemes, two maternity benefit schemes, and two child benefit programmes. Prominent among them are the Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Janani Suraksha Yojana, and PM POSHAN.
PM remembers Emergency days
During the programme, PM Modi played speeches of leading anti-Emergency politicians, including those of former prime ministers Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and former deputy PM Jagjivan Ram. He said they should always be remembered as it inspires people to keep the Constitution strong.
PM Modi said those who imposed the Emergency not only "murdered the Constitution" but also made judiciary their puppet.
PM Modi on Yoga Day
PM Modi also highlighted the recent celebrations on the International Yoga Day, saying that more and more people are incorporating yoga in their daily lives.
"We saw many mesmerising images of this celebration. In Visakhapatnam, 3 lakh people performed Yoga together on the beach. Another incredible sight from Visakhapatnam was that over 2,000 tribal students performed 108 surya namaskars for 108 minutes. Imagine the discipline needed. A grand display of Yoga was showcased on our naval ships," PM Modi said. (With inputs from agencies)

SC allows Lalit Modi to seek civil remedy in plea against Rs 10 crores fine imposed by ED
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday has granted liberty to Lalit Modi to move to a civil court to seek remedy against a Rs 10.65 crore fine imposed on him by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) case in connection with the 2009 season of the Indian Premier League. Modi had sought directions for the recovery of the fine amount from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), instead of him. A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and R Mahadevan disposed of Modi's plea, allowing him to seek civil remedy, after the counsel appearing for Modi sought to withdraw the same. Modi had moved the top court against the decision of the Bombay High Court in dismissing his plea, with a Rs 1 lakh cost. During the hearing, Modi's counsel argued that as per various earlier judicial decisions, the case is well within the Writ jurisdiction provided under Article 226 of the Constitution of India. However, the bench was of the view that the BCCI has been held as 'not a State' for recovery of the said fine imposed by the ED. 'BCCI is to be held to be 'not a state.' Recovery can't be equivalent to State', the bench stated. Modi's counsel then sought liberty to seek civil remedy by moving to a civil court in the matter. The Court agreed and disposed of the plea after noting that the same is not maintainable under Article 226 of the Constitution. In May 2018, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had levied penalties on the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and its former chief N. Srinivasan, among others, over alleged violations in the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) regulations in the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from an 82.66 Cr fine on the BCCI, and an 11.53 Cr fine on Srinivasan, penalties have also been imposed upon the former chairman of the IPL, Lalit Modi (10.65 Cr), former BCCI treasurer MP Pandove (9.72 Cr) and the State Bank of Travancore (7 Cr). The penalties amount to a total of 121.66 Cr. On July 20, 2011, the ED had issued show cause notices to Modi and the BCCI under provisions of FEMA regarding the alleged transfer of a sum of Rs 243.45 crores to Cricket South Africa without prior permission of the RBI, ahead of an IPL tournament in 2009. The ED was subsequently allowed by the Bombay High Court to summon several former BCCI officials, including Manohar and then secretary N Srinivasan, as witnesses in the matter. (ANI)

BJP alleges INDI Bloc promoting ‘Namazwad', undermining constitutional values
New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition INDI Alliance, alleging that its parties like the RJD and Samajwadi party were attempting to promote what he termed as 'Namazwad'—a religiously motivated deviation from constitutional principles—and accused them of undermining the legacy of BR Ambedkar. Addressing a press briefing, Senior BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that there is 'no mention of the concept of Waqf in the Quran, attributing it to interpretations developed by clerics. He further said the Quran encourages voluntary giving, not institutional religious control, and warned that opposition parties are attempting to 'convert Samajwad (socialism) into Namazwad.' 'If their government comes—which is not going to happen—they will throw Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution in the dustbin and implement Sharia law,' the BJP Rajya Sabha MPP said. 'They are bowing before mullahs and maulavis to pursue hardline vote bank politics. Be it the Congress, the RJD, or the Samajwadi Party—they are all driven by a thirst for votes from fundamentalist sections,' he alleged. Trivedi also revisited the Shah Bano case of 1985, accusing the Congress of having previously placed personal law above constitutional supremacy by enacting legislation that effectively overruled a Supreme Court judgment in favour of Muslim women's rights. He suggested that such precedents demonstrate the Congress's historical willingness to appease conservative religious sentiments at the expense of legal uniformity. Reinforcing his party's stance, Trivedi said the BJP remains committed to preserving the values enshrined in the Constitution, adding that voters must choose between 'a government that respects Ambedkar's vision' and one that 'seeks to impose religious law through the backdoor.' 'Only once in Indian history has a party crossed 400 seats, and that was the Congress in 1985. What did they do? They used that majority to push Sharia over the Constitution,' the BJP leader said. Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the BJP MP remarked, 'I want to say to the people of Bihar that there are two options. New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the INDIA bloc, stating they want to convert 'Samajwad' into 'Namazwad'. The BJP addressed a press conference in New Delhi, referring to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's recent comments on the Waqf Amendment Act. The BJP leader termed RJD and Congress as 'Namazwadi' parties and stated that the people of Bihar have two options at present. 'These socialists don't even care about minorities. By bowing down before the Mullahs and Maulavis, they want to convert 'Samajwad' into 'Namazwad'...'Pakke Namazwadi hai, RJD ho ya Congress. I want to say to people of Bihar that there are two options', Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Furthermore, Sudhanshu Trivedi asked whether the INDIA bloc wants to implement 'Sharia Law' in Bihar and mentioned that they will try to implement the 'Sharia Law' in the state once they come to power. 'I want to ask the INDI alliance, are you thinking of implementing Sharia law in Bihar, which is bigger than Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and ISIS?. The INDI alliance, which will try to implement Sharia through the back door if it comes to power, and on the other side, our government, which will remain committed to protecting Baba Saheb's constitution', the BJP MP said. Sudhanshu Trivedi revealed that there is no mention of the word 'Waqf' in 'Quran'. He stated that the opposition wants to make 'fun' of the constitution written by Dr BR Ambedkar and want to convert it into a 'maulvi script'. 'There is no word called Waqf in the Quran. This is the creation of Mullah, Maulavi. In the Quran, it is said that you should spend as much as you can. Do not hold. They want to make fun of Baba Saheb's constitution and convert it into a Maulvi script', Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Reiterating his claim that the INDIA bloc will implement the 'Sharia Law' in Bihar once they come to power, Sudhanshu Trivedi remembered the Shah Bano Case.
