Taylor Swift owns master recordings 'in spite of' Scooter Braun
Taylor Swift now owns her master recordings 'in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him'.
The 35-year-old singer / songwriter revealed in an emotional open letter to fans on her website that she had recently bought back the rights to her first six albums, which Braun acquired from her former record label, Big Machine Records, in 2019.
In 2020, Braun went on to sell them to private equity firm Shamrock Capital and although it was recently claimed the music manager had 'encouraged' Shamrock Capital to make a deal with Taylor, he was not involved in the recent acquisition.
A source told PEOPLE: 'Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who 'encouraged' this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor's Nashville-based management team only. Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.'
After Scooter bought the rights to her music, Taylor decided to re-record her previous albums, calling them 'Taylor's Version'.
And, she revealed in her message to fans that the huge success of her 'Eras' tour and the new versions of her albums, actually helped her to buy back her music.
She wrote: "To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me - so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor's Version. The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.
'"I'm extremely hearted by the conversations this saga has reignited within my industry among artists and fans. Every time a new artist tells me they negotiated to own their master recordings in their record contract because of this fight, I'm reminded of how important it was for all of this to happen. Thank you for being curious about something that used to be thought of as too industry-centric for broad discussion. You'll never know how much it means to me that you cared. Every single bit of it counted, and ended us up here."

Barbra Streisand loves being with grandchildren
Barbra Streisand finds it "joyous" to be with her grandchildren. The 83-year-old actress - whose stepson Josh Brolin is dad to Trevor, 37, Eden, 32, Westlyn, six, and four-year-old Chapel and stepdaughter has three-year-old Soli - admitted her latest album, 'The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two', was inspired by the pleasure she takes in being surrounded by family. Barbra - who has son Jason, 58, with ex-husband Elliott Gould and is married to James Brolin - told People magazine:"I had asked my daughter-in-law, who's also a photographer, to bring the children over and take some pictures with me. The kids were walking toward me, and I was standing behind a screen door, and I said, 'Oh Kathryn, take this picture right now.' "The point is, the feeling whenever they're here is just joyous. It's very, very special... "It's wonderful to have family. And that's how The Secret of Life title came — [the secret] is several things, but one of them is family," The album is Barbra's first in almost seven years, and features duets with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Tim McGraw, but the Funny Girl star admitted she wasn't sure she was up to recording after the extensive process of recording the audiobook version of her memoir xx left her "hoarse". She said: "I hadn't sung in a long time so I didn't know if I had a voice left." But Barbra has no plans to give up her career and she still particularly loves recording new music. She said: "As long as I have a voice, I love the privacy of recording. "I love standing there in front of the mic with the music in my ears and singing, and there are more songs I want to sing. And I even have my original list of songs I've wanted to sing [since I was 18 years old]." Barbra began her career when she was 13 years old and she'd advise her younger self to trust her instincts. Asked what she'd have told her younger self, she said: "I'd tell her, 'Believe in yourself, believe in your choices. Believe in what you hear, what you feel.' I did it instinctively."

Taylor Swift's company buy giant friendship bracelet for 13k
Taylor Swift has spent $13,000 on a giant friendship bracelet. The Bad Blood hitmaker's personal services company, Firefly Entertainments Inc., have reportedly splashed out on the 140-foot-long inflatable decoration which was draped over New Orleans' Caesars Superdome during her Eras Tour, local outlet 4WWL have revealed. The outlet explained the information came from the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District, the state board that manages the dome and is expected to approve the purchase during a board meeting. Firefly will be responsible for collecting, shipping, and delivering the bracelet - which read 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' in white beads, with colourful gems in between the words - according to the purchase agreement. Shawn and Jules Kolodny of Kolossal Arts designed the piece and are thrilled Taylor is giving the bracelet a permanent home. They told Us Weekly in a statement: 'It's so fitting that the final trade of the giant friendship bracelet was to Taylor — she's the reason it exists. We love that it's with her now.' Making and trading friendship bracelets has been a favourite pastime of Taylor's fans at her concerts and is inspired by a line in her 2022 song 'You're on Your Own, Kid', which reads: 'So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it.' During one of her three shows in New Orleans last October, Taylor praised the giant bracelet. She told her audience: 'You've created traditions. You've created this mass movement of joy every time we play a show. And it makes me so proud, it really does. 'I just showed up one day and you guys were trading friendship bracelets and I was like, 'That's cool,' and now there is a giant friendship bracelet on the outside of this stadium.' 'Which is so nice of them to do for us — but it's even nicer of you guys to create things that went so far beyond what I ever expected for this tour.' Following the New Orleans concerts, the giant friendship bracelet was moved to other tour stops in other cities.

'It is incredibly freeing': Lauren Chan is a lot more comfortable after coming out as a lesbian
Lauren Chan is "much more comfortable" since coming out. The 34-year-old model came out as a lesbian in a 2023 article for Sports Illustrated and admits that no longer being in the "male gaze" has lifted a weight from her shoulders. Lauren told People magazine: "I'm so much more comfortable in myself. In coming out, I've ditched the male gaze, and it is incredibly freeing because I used to perceive myself in the way that the patriarchy wants us to consider women. If I had a part of my body that made me insecure based on the beauty ideal, it would ruin my entire sense of self. "Since being in the female gaze, I've realised that that doesn't exist. I fully believe that the way I show up to represent women does not always have to be flattering. Some of my favourite work is about making the body look relaxed or bigger. It's healing in a lot of ways. Bigger bodies are artful too." Lauren - who founded the plus-size clothing brand Henning - appeared in the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue earlier this year and is delighted that the publication gave her the opportunity to silence cruel trolls. She said: "Women are everything to me, literally. "This year, for Sports Illustrated, I got to write an essay for the print edition called 'For The Girls'. The essay is about the fact that I am not asking for permission to take up space. I'm taking it. "The essay and cover both came about after a man trolled me on my Instagram when Sports Illustrated Swimsuit announced my return to the issue with a picture. "The person said, 'Who are we even doing this for? Women? This doesn't make any sense.' I'm so glad that happened. I love my trolls because they give me an opportunity to educate, so bring it on." Lauren is set to marry her partner, film director Hayley Kosan, later this year and revealed that she entered her "bridal era" after her Sports Illustrated cover appearance gave her wedding "vibes". She said: "Engaged life is great. My (swimsuit photoshoot) looks are giving bridal (vibes). There was tulle, there was beading, there were pearls. "I'm very much in my bridal era, and I'm really excited about that. It's been really comforting and celebratory. I'm not at all ashamed of choosing a new path for myself. I feel really calm and comforted."
