India Champions vs Pakistan Champions, WCL 2025 Weather Update: Will Rain Ruin Big Clash?

NDTV5 days ago
India and Pakistan are all set to face each other in a mega clash in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) on Sunday. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series in more than 10 years due to political tensions and following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, relations between the two countries have deteriorated. While confusion remains over the two countries facing each other on the international stage, India Champions will play a blockbuster encounter against Pakistan Champions.
The tournament does not come under the purview of either BCCI or PCB and as a result, they did not have a say over the match. As a result, the spectators will see the likes of Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik take on stalwarts like Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan and Irfan Pathan.
However, there is some concerning news for the cricket fans.
Rain can end up playing spoilsport during the much-anticipated encounter as weather forecasts predicted rainfall during the day at Edgbaston. Even the match between West Indies Champions and South Africa Champions was affected by rain on Saturday with wet outfield complicating matters.
Pakistan Champions started their WCL 2025 campaign with a five-run win over England Champions. Their next match will be against the Indian Champions with Shahid Afridi possibly making a comeback.
The two teams met each other in the final last year with India Champions clinching the victory.

Game changer? Governance bill puts BCCI under RTI, caps power in sports bodies

New Delhi: The govt introduced the 'National Sports Governance Bill 2025' in Parliament on Wednesday, marking a significant overhaul of the regulatory framework for sports bodies in India. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 30-page legislation, a copy of which is with TOI, outlines several key provisions aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability within national sports federations (NSFs). A pivotal clause in the bill states that 'recognised sports bodies designated as public authority will come under RTI Act'. This amendment resolves a long-standing ambiguity, placing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) within the purview of the Right to Information Act after years of resistance. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Previously, the BCCI did not classify itself as a public body or NSF, thereby opposing govt attempts to oversee its operations. With the new bill, the BCCI will operate as an NSF, subjecting its financial records to public scrutiny. The BCCI has adopted a 'wait and watch' policy, with its officials looking to study the bill first to understand its impact on the board's functioning before commenting on the matter. The board is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. Status of BCCI as public authority under the An official note on the ministry of youth affairs and sports (MYAS) website informs about the BCCI's reluctance to come under RTI purview. 'The MYAS, vide its order dated 21st April, 2010 declared recognised NSF as 'Public Authority' under the RTI Act, 2005. As BCCI has never approached the MYAS for recognition as NSF, the ministry has not recognised BCCI as NSF. However, the Chief Information Commission (CIC) vide its order dated 01.10.2018 (Annexure-I) held the BCCI as the public authority under RTI Act, 2005 and directed the president, secretary and committee of administrators (CoA) to designate deserving officers as Central Public Information Officers, Central Assistant Public Information Officers and First Appellate Authorities and put in place a system of online and offline mechanisms to receive the applications for information under RTI Act. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now MYAS was directed to take necessary steps to ensure implementation of this order. However, BCCI filed a writ petition in the High Court of Judicature at Madras challenging CIC's Order dated 01.10.2018. The High Court vide its order dated 09.11.2018 and 10.12.2018 (Annexure-II & III) had granted stay on CIC's order dated 01.10.2018. The stay order is still in operation.' Poll Should the BCCI be classified as a public authority under the RTI Act? Yes, it should be transparent No, it should remain independent Impose restrictions on national team's participation The bill also grants the govt overriding powers to impose international restrictions on the participation of national teams when deemed necessary for national interest. This provision ensures that the govt can intervene in international sports affairs to protect the country's sporting reputation and interests. Cap on EC members Furthermore, the bill introduces a cap on the composition of Executive Committees (EC) for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and other NSFs. Each committee will be restricted to a maximum of 15 members, with a mandatory inclusion of at least four women. This measure aims to promote gender diversity and prevent executive bodies from becoming disproportionately dominated by a single group. National Sports Election Panel The bill calls for the formation of a pool of qualified election officials for transparent elections in sports federations. It will end inflated payments and biased appointments and fees standardised by NSB. In cases of suspension, derecognition, or governance failure, the NSB may direct the NOC to constitute an ad-hoc administrative body.

'It Will Have Consequences': Sai Sudharsan Paints Grim Picture After Rishabh Pant's Injury

Last Updated: B Sai Sudharsan says should Rishabh Pant be ruled out from the 4th Test, it will definitely impact India's batting. 462 runs from seven innings at an average of 66. Two centuries and as many fifties. Currently, the second highest run-getter of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Rishabh Pant is in the middle of a dream Test tour of England and given India's precarious position in the series which they trail 1-2, his presence, as a batter, wicketkeeper and vice-captain, is paramount. Unfortunately, the Shubman Gill's deputy has copped a nasty injury. On the opening day of the 4th Test between India and England in Manchester, an ill-fated attempt at reverse-sweeping a full delivery from Chris Woakes left Pant with a swollen right foot and agony. Such was the pain that Pant wasn't able to put his foot on the ground and had to be driven in a buggy to a medical facility at Old Trafford. Later, he was taken to a hospital for scans with BCCI medical team keeping a close watch. Pant had again gotten himself off to a soldi start. He was batting on 37 with the help of two fours and a six. With B Sai Sudharsan, he had added 72 runs for the fifth wicket. The blow meant Pant was forced to retire hurt and it's feared that this could potentially rule him out of the Test or even the remainder of the tour. Sudharsan knows the importance of Pant to this Indian team and warned of consequences should the 27-year-old be ruled out. 'But at the same time, the batters who are batting right now and there are a few more allrounders inside. So, we'll try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss very well," he added. Sudharsan made a solid return to the playing XI with a half-century – 61 off 151. He was dropped after making his debut in the series opener. At the close of play, India were 264/4 in 83 overs with Ravindra Jadeja (19*) and Shardul Thakur (19*) in the middle. view comments First Published: July 24, 2025, 08:56 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Asia Cup 2025 meeting to go ahead as planned after BCCI reportedly makes U-turn

After much uncertainty and a reported initial boycott by the BCCI, it is now being said that the Indian cricket board has agreed to attend the Asian Cricket Council meeting virtually, where the Asia Cup 2025 could be finalised. read more In a late twist, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to attend the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will take place in Dhaka on July 24 and 25, after initially threatening to boycott the meeting over the venue selection. The ACC is currently chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi, and the BCCI was seen as unwilling to participate in a meeting in Bangladesh. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD While the ACC AGM is expected to take a final call on the Asia Cup 2025, the future of which has looked uncertain since the Pahalgam terror attack, BCCI reportedly did not want to attend a meeting in Dhaka due to worsening relations between India and Bangladesh. The BCCI also recently postponed Team India's white-ball tour to Bangladesh from August 2025 to next year. More from First Cricket India insert healthy dollop of chaos on throwback day of Test cricket at Old Trafford BCCI to attend Asia Cup meeting virtually It was also reported that the boards of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan were ready to boycott the Dhaka meeting in support of the BCCI, but in a late twist on Wednesday, the Indian cricket board decided to attend the ACC AGM, albeit virtually. 'Yes, we have decided to attend the meeting virtually,' a BCCI source told Hindustan Times. Another BCCI source confirmed the same to the newspaper The Hindu, ' BCCI will act as a big brother and attend the tournament virtually,' he said. As per media reports, BCCI tried to make countries like Afghanistan and Oman skip the ACC AGM, which would have resulted in a l ack of a quorum at the meeting, but Naqvi ensured that wasn't an issue after meeting other boards. This should be seen as a big win for the PCB as they have managed to bring together enough boards needed as per the ACC constitution for a meeting to be held legally. As per a report in Cricbuzz, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan Super League (PSL) CEO Salman Naseer have already arrived in Dhaka for the meeting along with other ACC members. The officials from the Afghanistan board are expected to arrive on 24 July. The ACC AGM will start at 2 PM local time (1.30 PM IST) in Dhaka. Asia Cup most likely to go ahead as planned ACC AGM is likely to take a final decision on the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament schedule and other important details are expected to be confirmed during the meeting in Dhaka. The reserved window for the Asia Cup 2025 is 10 to 28 September. It is expected to be hosted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) despite India being the designated hosts. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman Aminul Islam has tried to stay away from the controversy, saying they are only playing the part of a host. 'The ACC is an organisation that operates with five full members from Asia and 25 associate countries. The ACC asked us whether we wanted to host the AGM and we agreed to it. This is an ACC programme, and we will only provide logistical support,' he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'We are in touch with the ACC, who is informing us who is coming and who is not, as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups, hotel bookings and other support.'
