Rajeshwar calls for collective action against climate crisis
Citing the global 1.5°C temperature rise and the risk of extinction of a million species, Singh warned that the world stands at a 'now or never' juncture. Referring to Lucknow's alarming 300 days of hazardous AQI levels, he appealed for a citywide mass movement to safeguard the environment.
Highlighting both local and national initiatives, he lauded India's Net Zero Emission pledge and Uttar Pradesh's plantation of over 200 crore trees.
In Sarojininagar, his initiatives include the establishment of 150 Tarashakti Kendras, distribution of 30,000 eco-friendly bags, and the Environment Warriors campaign, which has honoured forest personnel and engaged over 1,000 students.
He also announced the launch of an AI crash course at the Ran Bahadur Singh Digital Education and Youth Empowerment Centres, and donated 10 computers to National PG College. Stressing that "Lucknow, the Land of the Learned, must lead in climate solutions," he advocated for a carbon credit market, solar energy adoption, and reduction of food waste.

The minister claimed that UP was attracting more and more industries on the back of strong law and order and infrastructural robustness. "Historical changes are taking place in infrastructure. Expressway, airport, metro, medical college, all these are presenting a new picture of development," he said. Singh, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, also showered praise on Chandra Bhanu Gupta, who served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for three terms. "Chandra Bhanu Gupta ji started as a simple worker in the freedom movement and made a place in the hearts of millions of people through his sacrifice, commitment and leadership. Chandra Bhanu Gupta's life tells us that power does not mean only position or authority, but responsibility, sacrifice and protecting the interests of the public. "His life also gives us the message that there may be differences in politics, but there should not be animosity," he said.

Lucknow, Jul 13 (PTI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the newly inaugurated integration and testing facility of BrahMos Aerospace in Lucknow will strengthen the country's self-reliance in the defence sector. Singh, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, also showered praises on former UP CM Chandra Bhanu Gupta. Gupta served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for four terms. "He was not just the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on multiple occasions, but he was among the leaders who emerged from the Indian freedom struggle," Singh said. Singh, who is also the former UP CM, said, "Whenever we discuss the glorious past of Uttar Pradesh, the name of Chandra Bhanu Gupta ji is taken prominently. Today, when we are releasing this postage stamp, it is not only a tribute to the name of Chandra Bhanu Gupta ji, it is also a tribute to his high life values." "The administrative system that is working in the country and the state today, people like Chandra Bhanu Gupta ji have contributed a lot in laying its foundation," Singh said. The defence minister also said while Gupta was the CM of a big state like Uttar Pradesh, his vision and agenda was never regional, always nationalistic. "Chandra Bhanu ji was not in power for a very long (time). But in the short time he was in power, he gave priority to public welfare works. He was always known for his integrity." Singh said while Gupta did not agree with the 'Kamaraj Plan' he resigned from the CM post due to it. "You can imagine how an elected leader had to step down from the post due to the dislike of some people," Singh said. In 1963 K Kamaraj (former Chief Minister of Madras) suggested to Nehru that senior Congress leaders should leave ministerial posts to take up organisational work. This suggestion came to be known as the 'Kamaraj Plan', which was designed primarily to dispel the notion that Congressmen were attached to power, creating in its place a dedicated attachment to the objectives and policies of the organisation. The plan was approved by the Congress Working Committee and was implemented within two months. Six chief ministers and six Union ministers resigned under the plan. Kamaraj was later elected president of the Indian National Congress on October 9, 1963.

On centenary year, Kakori train action to be celebrated in grand manner in Lucknow: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday (July 13, 2025) said the centenary year of the Kakori train robbery carried out against the British Raj would be celebrated in a grand manner in Lucknow. "Kakori is located at a short distance from Lucknow, and Lucknow has a very close relationship with this historical event. Therefore, my effort will be to celebrate the centenary year of the Kakori incident in a grand manner in the city as well as other places," said Mr. Singh, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from the U.P. capital. He was speaking at a function held at the National PG College in Lucknow, where he unveiled the statue of Chandra Bhanu Gupta and also released a postage stamp. Mr. Singh said, "In August 1925, an incident took place at a railway station near Lucknow which shook the foundations of the British rule. The revolutionaries fighting for freedom looted the British treasury near the Kakori railway station for the freedom of India. Revolutionaries like Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Sachin Nath Bakshi were also involved in the incident, many of whom were arrested by the British government. Several big leaders like Madan Mohan Malviya, Lala Lajpat Rai stood with the revolutionaries at that time. "When the trial of the Kakori case began, Chandra Bhanu Gupta stood in the court with eminent lawyer Govind Ballabh Pant on behalf of the revolutionaries and pleaded for them," the Defence Minister said. "Chandra Bhanu Gupta proved that he was a true patriot by making good use of his law degree to support the revolutionaries of the country," Mr. Singh said. He added that since it was this is the centenary year of the Kakori incident, it will be celebrated in Lucknow and other places in a "grand manner". On August 9, 1925, in Kakori, Indian freedom fighters looted the treasury of the British government to buy arms for their revolution against the British Raj. In 1927, Ram Prasad 'Bismil', Ashfaqulla Khan and Thakur Roshan Singh were hanged to death by the British government for their involvement in the incident.
