Rock Icon Says This 90s Band Is 'Bigger Than the Ramones'
But to of The Smashing Pumpkins, one band has eclipsed the Ramones: Green Day.
'I think it had something to do with the fact that they just got their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,' Billy told Rolling Stone. 'I'm watching them get their star and…I had this moment where I was reminiscing and I was like, 'Wow, I've known these guys for over 30 years, and we just did this tour. Oh my God, they're bigger than the Ramones.'"
The 58-year-old alternative icon explained his reasoning in putting his fellow '90s rockers ahead of the band many consider invented punk.
'In the world I grew up in, the Ramones were number one,' he said. 'In a way, they always will be number one because they were first.'
"But then I realized, 'Oh my God, Green Day has actually done it. They are bigger than the Ramones. Their influence is greater, their reach is greater, and certainly their success is greater,'' said Corgan.
Both Green Day and The Smashing Pumpkins formed in the late 1980s but experienced massive success in the early '90s. The Pumpkins became synonymous with alternative rock with Siamese Dream, released in 1993, and 1995's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
Green Day ushered in the punk explosion with 1994's Dookie. A decade later, they experienced a career renaissance with the release of American Idiot and remain one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.
The Pumpkins toured with Green Day in 2024. 'It was awesome,' Billy told Rolling Stone. 'Green Day was so gracious. We couldn't have had a better summer. It was one of my favorite tours of all time.'
'They were so gracious in being hosts, not only to us, but to Rancid and the Linda Lindas,' said Corgan. 'It was just the spirit of what it's supposed to be when you put bands together. It was one of the best experiences we've ever had, and we're forever grateful to them.'

The brain disorder is caused by the accumulation of excessive cerebrospinal fluid in the brain's ventricles, leading to a range of cognitive and physical problems, particularly issues with gait, coordination, and bladder control. The disorder 'can affect several brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,' according to the Cleveland Clinic. 'The symptoms of NPH look very much like those of dementia, but NPH is sometimes reversible.' While Joel told Maher that his condition is not yet 'fixed,' he said, 'it's being worked on.' Joel explained that the disorder 'used to be called water on the brain. Now it's called hydrocephalus — normal pressure hydrocephalus.' When asked what causes the disorder, Joel said, 'Nobody knows.' The musician's last concert on this tour run took place on Feb. 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Toward the end of the show, he fell on his back after throwing his microphone stand at a crew member. But he stood back up and finished the set. In March, Joel revealed he was taking a four-month break from the road due to a 'medical condition' that required surgery and physical therapy. He planned on returning to the stage on July 5 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 'While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,' he told fans in a statement. It's unclear if the procedure was related to his normal pressure hydrocephalus diagnosis. 'I feel good,' Joel told Maher during the new interview, where they also discussed the two-part, five-hour documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, and more. 'They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling.' 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' unleashes killer Santa: Watch the trailer
Art the Clown terrified at the holidays last year. This Christmas season, it's Santa's time to kill. The first teaser trailer has arrived for "Silent Night, Deadly Night" (in theaters Dec. 12), an unrated reimagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror movie written and directed by Mike P. Nelson ("Wrong Turn"). And this slasher Santa Claus doesn't mess around, using an axe and a shotgun with deadly intention and also down for impaling people on deer antlers. Rohan Campbell, whose scary-movie resume includes "Halloween Ends" and "The Monkey," stars in the film as Billy. As a child, he witnesses Santa gruesomely murder his mom and dad on Christmas Eve, and it sparks his life goal to spread holiday fear instead of cheer. So every holiday, Billy gets in the familiar red suit and embarks on a yuletide massacre. "Silent Night" is the latest unrated movie coming to theaters from Cineverse, the company which distributes the hit "Terrifier" franchise and is also releasing the upcoming "The Toxic Avenger" remake (out Aug. 29) starring Peter Dinklage. Cineverse is "this rogue independent studio that's all about helping artists get their films in front of audiences," chairman and CEO Chris McGurk told USA TODAY in March. The Young and the Restless spoilers: Billy dumps Jack from Abbott Communications, but lives to regret it?

In a moment of déjà vu, The Young and the Restless' Jack (Peter Bergman) and Billy (Jason Thompson) once again find themselves at odds, and their differing opinion ends in a knee-jerk decision. This time, Billy severed his business relationship with his older brother at Abbott Communications, doing so without even securing another investor first. It all goes down in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 21. Jack and Billy pick up their conversation from the previous episode, and Billy takes exception to his big brother insinuating that he is preparing to let Jack down again. From Jack's perspective, he's just frustrated that his brother is essentially going back on his word to focus on Abbott Communications, and instead, is focusing again on taking Chancellor away from Victor (Eric Braeden). Jack can't fathom why his brother is even willing to partner with Cane (Billy Flynn) to make that happen, given Cane is currently accused of murder. Understandably, Jack is not only worried about his brother's obsession over Chancellor, but he's also concerned about his investment in Abbott Communications. The two men trade a few barbs, in which Jack notes that Abbott Communications wouldn't be able to get the doors open without his investment. Tired of having this same conversation with Jack, Billy decides in this moment to pull the impulsive trigger and terminate his working relationship with him. He promises to return Jack's investment and hints that Cane could be his new investor. So not only is Billy determined to get Abbott Communications up and running, but he's also set on getting back Chancellor in some capacity. Having said all of that, we can't help but predict chaos and heartache in Billy's future. Billy is putting all his eggs in this Cane basket, and Cane seems less than trustworthy. He's currently working on a sneaky plan to get his hooks into all of the major corporations in Genoa City, and we still question the origin of his newfound fortune. Plus, as Jack pointed out, Cane is still a suspect in the murder of Damian (Jermaine Rivers). If we had to guess, Billy will come to realize he's ruined his chance to make Abbott Communications a big deal in Genoa City, chasing after Chancellor. Recalling his deal with Sally (Courtney Hope), if he goes all in in his pursuit of Chancellor, he's leaving her in charge to run Abbott Communications. We suspect he is going to jump ship for Chancellor, with the intention of leaving his girlfriend to run the company, but do so before Jack fully divests. Should that happen, we'd further go on to say that Jack doesn't leave Sally in charge but taps Diane (Susan Walters) to be the boss instead. Even if Cane does invest in Abbott Communications, assuming control of Jack's stake in the company, we aren't that confident that Cane wouldn't double-cross Billy or that Cane would be able to be a sturdy source for the company. Oh, and let's not forget, Billy wants to tie his Chancellor future to Cane, who is already inching toward a partnership with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). She's been stabbed in the back a few times by Billy, so who's to say that if Cane somehow acquires Chancellor from Victor, that Phyllis won't finally return the favor and make sure he's cut out of the business. All in all, we just think Billy will live to regret rejecting Jack's help for Abbott Communications and continuing on in his Chancellor obsession. If Billy manages to lose Abbott Communications and is duped when it comes to Chancellor, we can imagine him going into one of his classic downward spirals.
