‘Coolie': Aamir Khan's first look from Rajinikanth's film with Lokesh Kanagaraj out
The first look introduces the star as the rugged-looking Dahaa, sporting a dark vest, smoking a pipe.
Notably, this comes just weeks after Aamir opened up on his role in Coolie during the promotions of his recent release, Sitaare Zameen Par. In an interview with Zoom, Aamir revealed that he agreed to do the role without even reading the script since he is a huge fan of Rajinikanth. 'I really enjoyed doing it. I am big fan of Rajini sir...huge fan. I have a lot of love and respect for Rajini sir. So, I did not even hear the script. When Lokesh told me that it is a Rajini sir's movie and that he wanted me to do a cameo, I said, 'Done. I am doing it. Whatever it is, I am doing it,' said the star.
Rajinikanth's Coolie boasts an ensemble star cast that includes Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj. Pooja Hegde is set to play a special role. Shruti Haasan is the other prominent actor in the movie.
Anirudh Ravichander is composing music for the movie, while Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer. Anbariv is in charge of the stunt choreography. Sun Pictures is producing the film.
Lokesh had previously confirmed that Coolie will not be part of his popular film universe called the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes movies such as Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.
Aamir, last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, is also set to begin working on his dream project, Mahabharata, and a biopic on pioneering filmmaker and the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke, with director Rajkumar Hirani. Interestingly, Aamir and Lokesh are all set to team up for a big-scale superhero action film set to go into production in 2026.

Each one of them has been highly lauded for their performances. 'Sitaare Zameen Par' review The movie has been loved by critics and audiences alike. 'Despite a sensitive and layered subject, R S Prasanna's directorial venture, written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, remains a wholesome, feel-good watch. It strikes a commendable balance between delivering a message and educating viewers about ID, all with a lighthearted touch. At its core is a message of inclusivity—conveying that people with ID are employable, independent, full of life, and deeply empathetic. The film sensitively portrays the characteristic traits of the players' conditions without reducing them to labels—Bantu's (Vedant Sharma) stimming through ear-scratching, Guddu's (GopiKrishnan K Verma) aquaphobia, Sharmaji's (Rishi Shahani) speech impairment, and the less-recognised invisible autism in high-functioning Hargovind (Naman Misra). These are presented as facets of their personalities, not just symptoms,' reads an excerpt from TOI's review of the movie.

Aamir Khan's family drama 'Sitaare Zameen Par' recorded a strong jump on its 16th day at the box office, earning ₹ 5 crore on the third Saturday. With this, the film's total domestic collection has reached ₹ 142.80 crore. After a dip in earnings on Day 15 (Friday), which brought in ₹ 2.4 crore, the Saturday collections have offered a fresh boost to the film's performance. The jump reflects renewed audience interest as the weekend progresses. In its second week, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' collected ₹ 46.5 crore, with ₹ 46.24 crore from the Hindi version, ₹ 0.17 crore from Tamil, and ₹ 0.09 crore from Telugu. On Day 16, the Hindi (2D) version saw a rise in cinema occupancy: The increase in evening show attendance suggests that the film continues to attract families and younger audiences. Analysts note that strong word-of-mouth, Aamir Khan's presence, and the film's emotional storyline have helped sustain interest beyond the initial release period. With Sunday still to come, trade experts expect the film to post even stronger numbers by the end of the weekend. If momentum continues, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' may cross the ₹ 150 crore mark soon. This performance reinforces Aamir Khan's pull at the box office and reflects the audience's ongoing appetite for heartfelt, message-driven cinema.
