Midsomer Murders star returns to show in brand new role after 30 years

Daily Mirror30-04-2025
Midsomer Murders star Daniel Casey is returning to the hit show - in a very different role. Daniel played young Troy in the first series of the hit ITV show alongside John Nettles, who played DCI Barnaby.
Daniel has now been confirmed to be playing DCI Tom Barnaby, who was originally portrayed by John Nettles in the TV series, for a special UK tour of Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift.
Speaking about his new role, Daniel said: I never expected to revisit the world of Midsomer, with its weird and wonderful characters and all their dark, twisted secrets. So to be asked to play the iconic role of Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby in this new stage adaptation of The Killings at Badger's Drift was a real surprise. Workshopping the play, you realise the characters have an inherent theatricality, which is perfect to bring to the stage.
"It has brought back some wonderful memories of such a happy time in my career playing Sergeant Troy and the fantastic time I had working with the amazing John Nettles and to be stepping into his shoes as Barnaby is both a little daunting and incredibly exciting."
John also heaped praise on his former co-star as he spoke about the new stage version.
He added: "How wonderful that the original tale of murder and intrigue in Midsomer will be solved by Daniel, in this new stage version of Badger's Drift. Daniel brought the young Troy to life so brilliantly in the original TV pilot of the book and I'm delighted that he gets to lead the investigation in this theatre adaption.
"He has a fabulous track record in his stage work – and had a marvellous DCI to teach him the detecting ropes, back in the day!"
The Midsomer Murders stage show is based on the first episode of the hit ITV series, which has now run for over 20 series, with the lead star being DCI John Barnaby, played by Neil Dudgeon.
"When well-loved spinster Emily Simpson is found dead in the picturesque village of Badger's Drift, her friend Lucy Bellringer refuses to accept it was an accident. DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy are called in to investigate, uncovering a world of hidden passions, long-buried secrets and deadly rivalries," a synopsis for the new stage show reads.
"With eccentric villagers, shocking twists and an unforgettable reveal, The Killings at Badger's Drift is a classic whodunit that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Bringing to life the wit, charm and chilling suspense of the beloved television series and original series of books, this gripping and thrilling new show will entrance theatre audiences."

Jack Osbourne's relatively unknown siblings as he returns to TV

Jack Osbourne's relatively unknown siblings as he returns to TV As the Osbourne family mourn the loss of their beloved husband and father, Ozzy Osbourne, we take a look at his relationships with his six children The Osbourne family is mourning the loss of their beloved patriarch, Ozzy Osbourne, who sadly passed away at the age of 76 on 22 July. ‌ The cause of death has not been confirmed, but it's known that the Black Sabbath frontman had been battling Parkinson's disease since February 2019, which significantly impacted his health in recent years. ‌ As they grapple with their loss, Ozzy's youngest son, Jack, is set to return to television just days after his father's passing, as he competes in the fifth series of ITV's celebrity cooking competition, Cooking with the Stars. ‌ The show, hosted by Emma Willis and Tom Allen, was pre-recorded before Ozzy's untimely death. Jack will compete against a host of celebrities including Love Island star Ekin-Su, EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy and former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips. Each celebrity is paired with a culinary expert who guides them through each round. However, those with the lowest scores face a cook-off and receive no help from their mentors, who can only watch from the sidelines. In a cruel twist, the mentors of those in the bottom two will have to participate in a blind taste test to decide who progresses to the next round, potentially sending their own protege home. Jack Osbourne's five other siblings (Image: Getty) ‌ Sharon Osbourne breaks down in tears as she views tributes to Ozzy during procession READ MORE: Jack, a podcaster who is no stranger to television appearances, will feature on the show this Sunday, reports the Express. Throughout Ozzy's life, unbeknownst to many, the rockstar actually fathered six children, meaning that Jack has five other siblings - not just Kelly, who is widely recognised as his sister from their time together on MTV's At Home with the Osbournes. Before Sharon and Ozzy tied the knot, the Black Sabbath legend had been previously married. He met his first wife Thelma Riley in a Birmingham nightclub before they exchanged vows and welcomed two biological children together, Jessica, 53, and Louis, 50. Sharon and Ozzy are parents to Aimee, Kelly and Jack (Image: Getty) ‌ Thelma was also the mother of five year old Elliot from a previous relationship when she met the lead singer. Ozzy would later adopt Elliot and raise him as his own. However, the three children do not have fond childhood memories with their daredevil father and in a 2011 documentary (produced by Jack Osbourne) when Ozzy is asked about Louis and Jessica's birthdays, he fails to remember when each of them were born. In the same series, Louis revealed details about growing up with Ozzy: "When he was around and he wasn't [drunk], he was a great father. But that was kind of rare, really. I just have a lot of memories of him being drunk, random s**t like driving cars across fields and crashing them in the middle of the night and stuff like that. "It's not good for family life, really," he explained in the documentary. His elder sister, Jessica also remarked: "I don't remember being put to bed or having a bath by dad or anything like that. I wouldn't say he was there for us, no, never on sports day, school trip, parents' evening. He wasn't like that, no." ‌ The Osbourne family is actually much bigger than most would think (Image: Getty) In 1982, Ozzy and Thelma divorced and that same year he wed Sharon, who was his manager at the time. Twelve months later, they had their first daughter Aimee on September 2nd 1983, followed by their second daughter Kelly on October 27, 1984. They eventually had their youngest child, Jack on November 8, 1985. Whilst many admirers know two of Sharon and Ozzy's offspring - Jack and Kelly - Aimee chose to stay out of the spotlight when the former X Factor panellist decided to allow MTV's cameras into her house. Refusing to participate in filming, she left the family residence in the early 2000s to follow her own musical ambitions, performing under her initials ARO. ‌ In a previous chat with the Independent, she looked back on her choice to step away. She confessed to the magazine: "Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television? I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable." In a 2008 interview with the same publication, Aimee defended her decision, saying: "I'm not some weirdo depressed daughter that's afraid of the world and locks herself in her room all day. I just didn't choose to do the show. I want to be a singer, and I felt if I'd stayed with the Osbournes and done the whole thing I would have been typecast right away. "[Sharon] was hurt, and we definitely had a tough time with disagreements. I'm more reserved and my private life is very important." Article continues below In 2021, it emerged that Sharon's two daughters were actually estranged from one another. Discussing her relationship with Aimee on the Dax Shepard podcast, Kelly admitted: "We don't talk. We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her." Despite the tension between the two sisters, it appears that Aimee has a much stronger bond with her younger brother Jack, as they both co-run the production company Osbourne Media together. Cooking with the Stars kicks off on Sunday, August 3 at 8pm on ITV1.

Channel 5 22 Kids and Counting star emotional as family face major change 22 Kids and Counting star Sue Radford left emotional as she faced the prospect of an 'empty nest' when her children move out 22 Kids and Counting star to leave family (Image: Youtube/The Radford Family) 22 Kids and Counting took an emotional turn as three family members prepared to embark on a significant journey, leaving their family home behind, with one considering relocating halfway around the globe. ‌ The Radford clan rose to fame through their Channel 5 reality programme, offering audiences an exclusive glimpse into their hectic lives as a household of 24. ‌ In tonight's instalment (3rd August), Noel took control of the situation, attempting to provide his son Daniel with the necessary encouragement to finally leave the family nest. ‌ The 26 year old had previously disclosed his intentions to relocate to Australia following a successful job application, though he first needed to conquer his driving phobia, which developed following a motor accident two years earlier. Departing from home represents a significant transition for any young adult, particularly for Daniel, who appears to have reconsidered abandoning his 21 siblings for such a momentous relocation, reports the Mirror. Noel is keen on son Daniel getting his independence (Image: The Radford Family YouTube) ‌ However, father Noel remains determined to see his son gain independence and has proposed purchasing him a first-class airline ticket - albeit with the stipulation that it would be a single journey. Daniel voiced his ambition to emigrate abroad, yet despite his father's enticing proposal, the move appears unlikely to materialise in the near future. He commented: "I'd definitely like to move out at some point." ‌ Noel has begun to feel disheartened, stating: "It won't happen. So far, he's decided to go, changed his mind. He bought a ticket and then changed his mind again." Sue confessed: "An empty nest is something I'm definitely not something I'm looking forward to." Noel, however, seems to have a different perspective as he quipped: "I'll be opening the door to let them out and you'll be there trying to shut the door to keep them back." ‌ Sue and Noel Radford's son Daniel has plans of moving to Australia Out of their brood, only five have flown the coop so far, including Katie, and with Daniel on the cusp of leaving, he's not alone; two of his siblings have also declared their intentions to move out. Noel elaborated: "The kids are still at home, all the old ones because it's easy. The cooking is done, the cleaning is done, the washing is done. It's 24 hour care." ‌ Sue, on the other hand, understands why they stay, saying: "I do feel like they are still here because they just genuinely do love having all their siblings around and having a big family." During a family BBQ, Chloe opened up about the difficulty of parting from the family: "I missed home when I was in Plymouth, I guess there are a lot of people to miss." Sue Radford is not looking forward to her children leaving the nest (Image: CHANNEL5/INSTAGRAM) ‌ Sophie shared her own experience: "It took me, I would say a good year to start getting used to it." Noel interjected: "You pretty much came home everyday to see mum." Sophie responded: "Yeah, I was really homesick. I was texting dad every day 'right, pick me up, I want to come home'." She added: "Joe would text me like 'what are you doing after?' and I'd be like 'oh, I've just come home for a bit' and he'd say 'that's not your home anymore'." An empty nest is definitely not something that I'm looking forward to." You can catch-up on 22 Kids and Counting on Channel 5
