Viksit Krishi drive aims to boost farm productivity in Uttar Pradesh: Minister
Addressing a joint press conference with minister of state Baldev Singh Aulakh, Shahi said the campaign was being run at 10,125 locations across all 75 districts, training over 8.39 lakh farmers— including 1.91 lakh women—through field-level interactions and scientific demonstrations.
'The initiative, launched by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on May 29, has the participation of 550 agricultural scientists, along with departments of horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, silk, water resources and cooperatives,' he said.
A total of 4.58 lakh free minikits, including pulses, oilseeds, millets and groundnut, will be distributed to promote Kharif 2025 sowing, Shahi added. The government, according to him, has sanctioned ₹410.67 crore for the campaign under various central schemes, including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Food and Nutritional Security and Krishonnati Yojana.
Calling it a step toward the 'lab to land' vision, the minister urged public representatives and the media to actively support the campaign to ensure timely and effective transfer of technology to farmers.

Expressing displeasure over declining forest cover in India, the All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun M. Kharge said that the successive State governments had failed to protect the forest area by not effectively enforcing forest preservation laws. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 'Hasiru Patha' and 'Hasiru Hejje-Kalaburagi' programmes under Vanamahotsava-2025 jointly organised by Departments of Forest, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Urban Development and the district administration here on Saturday. Though the country has lost its 20 lakh hectares of forest cover in the last ten years, the State governments are nonchalant in implementing the laws to protect the forest land, Mr. Kharge alleged. 'Our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi introduced the Forest Conservation Act 1980, and further the Forest Rights Act was introduced during Man Mohan Singh's tenure, and recently the Modi-led government enacted the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023, but no States in the country are fully complying with forest related laws. If this situation continues, the environment degradation can indeed worsen air quality and generate more health hazards in the coming days,' Mr. Kharge expressed. Expressing concern over the increasing deaths due to cardiac arrest, especially among youngsters' the leader said that clean air, water and a healthy environment are crucial for good health. Currently, India's forest and tree cover is 25.17 % of the country's geographical area, while Karnataka's forest cover is at 21.21 % of its total geographical area. At least 33% of forest cover is necessary to ensure adequate oxygen supply and water availability and to promote environmental health. Stressing on the need to increase forest cover to combat climate change and global warming, Mr. Kharge suggested the State government develop forests near the backwaters of the reservoirs and dams. The leader appealed to the public to join their hands with the government in expanding green cover by planting saplings at their homes, schools, and on the borders of agricultural fields. Just planting saplings is not a solution, ensuring survival of the planted trees is equally important, he said. The State government aims to plant three crore saplings this year, of which even if 2.5 crore of saplings survive, it will be highly beneficial, Mr. Kharge expressed. Mr. Kharge also distributed saplings to the students on the occasion. Minister for Forest and Environment Eshwar B. Khandre and Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge; MP, legislators, senior officials from the Forest Department, RDPR and Urban Development departments were present.

Uttarakhand: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami participates in paddy sowing, showcases commitment to farmers and cultural heritage
Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand) [India], July 5 (ANI): Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a heartfelt gesture saluting the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication of farmers, participated in paddy sowing on his private farmland in Nagra Terai area of Khatima on Saturday. According to a release, on the occasion, the Chief Minister offered traditional prayers to Bhumiyan Devta (the deity of land), Lord Indra (God of rains), and Meghraj (God of clouds) through the melodious strains of the culturally significant Hudkiya Baul, a folk instrument historically played in the farmlands of Uttarakhand to invoke blessings for a good harvest. CM Dhami's active participation in the sowing activity and his deep cultural connection with the farming community drew overwhelming enthusiasm among the local populace. This inspirational initiative by the Chief Minister underscores the state government's commitment to recognising and honouring the pivotal role of farmers in Uttarakhand's economy. The Chief Minister stated that 18 heliports are currently being developed in Uttarakhand, out of which services have commenced at 12. He said that heli services have become not only a means of transport in hilly states like Uttarakhand, but have also become a lifeline. 'Be it disaster management, health services or pilgrimage, helicopter services have provided unprecedented convenience in these areas'. Chief Minister Dhami urged the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to formulate a separate 'Mountain Aviation Policy' for mountain states, which should include provisions such as special financial assistance, subsidy for operations, a suitable ATC network for mountain areas, accurate weather forecast, slotting and pre-disaster preparation. Union Minister Pradhan launches 52 projects worth Rs 163.85 crore in Odisha's Deogarh
DEOGARH: Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated 52 development projects worth Rs 163.85 crore and laid foundation stones for six others in Deogarh on Friday. During his visit to the district, Pradhan also launched a series of development, welfare, and environmental initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure, livelihood and ecological balance in the region. The union minister participated in a plantation drive as part of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' initiative. He inaugurated the 76th Van Mahotsav Week-2025 and planted saplings at Samantrapali in Tileibani block. Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said Deogarh currently has 23 per cent forest cover and efforts must be made to increase it to 35 per cent.
