Wife of golf star Adam Schenk brings husband back down to earth after he qualified for the US Open

Daily Mail20-05-2025
The wife of golfer Adam Schenk joked that she 'died of a heart attack' after seeing the cost of rental homes for next month's US Open.
Schenk, the world No 143, has qualified for the third major the year, which takes place at Oakmont in Pennsylvania from June 12 to June 15.
More than 10,200 golfers entered the 125th US Open via 100-plus qualifying events, including Charlie Woods and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo.
After Schenk secured his place in the field, his wife Kourtney began planning their week at Oakmont, which is just outside Pittsburgh.
Golfers and their families typically find homes for the week but houses near Oakmont are being rented out for up to $80,000 for a week.
'Adam just qualified for the US Open & I just died of a heart attack when I saw the rental house prices. Ooook Oakmont,' Kourtney wrote on X, before deleting her post.
In his 10 major appearances, Schenk has made the cut just three times, earning $600,000
US Open Rentals Oakmont finds visitors 'high-quality' rental homes near the course. There are still dozens of houses available.
Among the cheapest is a three-bed house just a few minutes from Oakmont. It is said to hold four to five guests and it costs $10,000 for the week.
Adam and Kourtney Schenk have two young children and a dog. The priciest three-bed available to rent is a staggering $48,000 a week.
Those players with bigger entourages face having to fork out even more for a home near Oakmont, with one nine-bedroom house costing $80,000.
Schenk has made more nearly $12.5million in his PGA Tour career. But in his 10 major appearances, he has made the cut just three times, earning around $600,000.
His best result came at the 2024 Masters, when he finished in a tie for 12th and took home $405,000.

Aaron Rodgers left red-faced after humiliating start to Steelers training camp

Aaron Rodgers threw an interception with his very first pass of training camp with the Steelers. The legendary quarterback, 41, finally joined Pittsburgh in June - signing a one-year, $13.65m deal after months of uncertainty over his NFL future. Rodgers is looking to rediscover his best after a dreadful couple of years with the New York Jets. But there were groans from the crowd who turned up to the Steelers' opening practice of training camp on Thursday after Rodgers' first pass was picked off by linebacker Patrick Queen. 'It's good to get that out the way,' Rodgers later said with a grin. The Steelers players are staying in dorms at St. Vincent College as they begin preparations for the 2025 season. Rodgers will return to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets in week one and on Thursday he downplayed any concerns over his early error. 'It's going to be a good challenge for me throwing in this heat every single day. I look forward to it, but I'm going to throw some picks, but I'm going to throw some touchdowns, too.' The four-time MVP failed to end New York's long playoff drought over two miserable seasons that began with a ruptured Achilles tendon. But earlier this week, Steelers GM Omar Khan said he is building a team to win the Super Bowl and Rodgers believes Pittsburgh can contend for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. 'I think most of the 32 teams would probably say something to that accord at this time of the year, but I think that there's really only six to eight that really have a legitimate chance,' Rodgers said. 'Sometimes, it's 10 to 12 and there's teams that surprise you, but I would say on paper, we're probably one of those 10 to 12.' The Steelers last won the Super Bowl in February 2009.

Venus Williams, 45, falls short in bid for first win streak since 2019

Venus Williams' bid for her first winning streak since 2019 ended with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to 24th-ranked Magdalena Frech at the DC Open on Thursday night. Williams is 45, and her victory in the first round Tuesday night against 35th-ranked Peyton Stearns made the seven-time grand slam singles champion the oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match since Martina Navratilova was 47 in 2004. That was Williams' first win in singles since 2023, and she joked afterward that she was motivated to succeed because she wanted to be able to get back on the WTA's health insurance plan after being off the tour for more than a year. She won a doubles match in Washington, too. This hard-court tournament was the first event for Williams since March 2024; she missed time because of surgery for uterine fibroids. The last time Williams won at least two matches in a row was in August 2019, at the Cincinnati Open, where she put together three consecutive victories before losing to Madison Keys in the quarter-finals. Williams began well against Frech, going up 2-1. But from there, Frech claimed seven straight games to own the first set and lead 2-0 in the second. Frech is a 27-year-old from Poland whose best grand slam showing was a run to the fourth round at the 2024 Australian Open before losing to Coco Gauff. The show under the lights on this evening was all about Williams, whose greeting was much louder when she walked out on court toting a green exercise band. Every time Williams unfurled one of her booming groundstrokes – and make no mistake, she still can hit the ball hard – the crowd in the main stadium let out a roar. The problem for Williams: She frequently was unable to properly calibrate those shots, including when she sailed a forehand way out after rushing forward to get to a short ball off Frech's racket. That gave Frech a 3-2 lead. Williams would drop her head or slump her shoulders after some misses, and she had 14 unforced errors in the opening set, more than twice as many as Frech. Fans often responded with an 'Awwww' right away, before trying to give Williams a boost by yelling support. After Williams fell behind 1-0 in the second set, a chorus rose of 'Here we go, Venus! Here we go!' She generated loud applause after getting a game a few minutes later, and there were clap-accompanied chants of 'Venus!' when she broke to get within 4-2 in that set. But Williams didn't get another game. When it ended after 1hr 12min with one last Williams forehand that landed long, spectators gave her a standing ovation, and she responded with a smile and the sort of pirouette and wave she usually reserves for celebrating wins. 'We're never going to say goodbye to Venus Williams, are we?' the stadium announcer said. In other action Thursday, top-seeded Jessica Pegula lost to 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, and Emma Raducanu dominated her first career matchup against Naomi Osaka, winning the showdown between past US Open champions 6-4, 6-2. 'I did feel it had a bit of extra,' Raducanu said. 'It's a match that I feel a lot of people were talking about beforehand.' Raducanu, the first qualifier to claim a grand slam title when she did that in New York in 2021 by defeating Fernandez in the final, saved the only two break points she faced Thursday and broke the big-serving Osaka three times. Seeded men advancing included No 4 Ben Shelton, No 6 Frances Tiafoe, No 7 Alex de Minaur, No 8 Daniil Medvedev, No 12 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and No 14 Brandon Nakashima.

The bizarre moment tennis star saves a bug on the court - only for it to be SQUASHED just seconds later

Tennis star Maria Sakkari believed she had come to the rescue of a bug during her match at the Washington Open, only to see the critter squashed just moments later. The Greek player had been in action against American rival Emma Navarro in the last-16 of the event. Sakkari briefly delayed play after spotting a bug on the court, with the 29-year-old the seen bending down and carefully picking up up. The bug walked on Sakkari's hand as she calmly walked towards the back off the court, before attempting to blow it away. Sakkari eventually placed the bug down with the star hoping to have taken it away from harm as the match progressed. 'Good work from Sakkari, taking care of the local wildlife,' the commentator remarked. Maria Sakkari saves bug… bug gets SQUASHED 😭🪦 — Tennis Channel (@TennisChannel) July 23, 2025 Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari was seen picking up a bug off the court during her match The bug was briefly shown by the cameras before a ball kid's trainer squashed the critter 'Very delicately done,' they added. Footage showed, however, that the bug's reprieve was only a momentary one. As cameras lingered on it at the back of the court, a ball boy's trainer was seen stamping down and squashing it. The incident prompted surprised reactions from both Sakkari and the commentator. 'Oh dear me,' the commentator said, adding 'the ball kid didn't get the memo'. Cameras then panned around to Sakkari, who responded to the bizarre moment with smile as she quickly then switched her focus to returning Navarro's serve. Sakkari would ultimately come through the match impressively, with the wildcard earning 7-5, 7-6 win over tournament second seed Emma Navarro. The former world No 3, who reached the French Open and US Open semi-finals in 2021, will now meet Britain's Emma Raducanu in the quarter-finals. Raducanu earned an impressive 6-4 6-2 victory over former world No 1 Naomi Osaka to book her place in the last eight. The British star has met Sakkari three times in her career to date and won on each ocassion. Their most notable meeting came at the US Open in 2021, with Raducanu winning in straight sets in their semi-final. Raducanu famously went on to clinch the title, becoming the first qualifier to win a major.
