A pair of Spartans played vital roles for Team USA in Sunday's World Junior Summer Showcase against Finland.
Future Spartans forward Ryker Lee scored a pair of goals and sophomore forward Shane Vansaghi netted the game-winner to help Team USA White top Finland, 5-2, in a World Junior Summer Showcase game from Minneapolis on Sunday. Team USA White once trailed 2-1 in the game but bounced back in the second half of the game to earn the victory.
Lee and Vansaghi are both expected to play key roles on the Spartans next season. Michigan State boasts a number of NHL talent on its 2025-26 roster, including both Lee and Vansaghi, and is considered a top five preseason team in the country entering next year.

NCAA lists Iowa football rivalry as one of biggest nonconference games in 2025

When you ask any Iowa fan who the Hawkeyes' biggest rival is on the gridiron, you'll probably hear a couple of different responses. Some may say Nebraska (though that rivalry has been very one-sided the past decade), others may say Minnesota or even Wisconsin. All of those Big Ten foes provide unique challenges for Iowa each season. But there's one rival that hits even closer to home for many Iowa fans. The annual Cy-Hawk game is important every year for people in the state of Iowa. It's a chance to have bragging rights for the next year and makes for fun debates at the water cooler. But this year's game is for more than just bragging rights. There's a lot at stake for both teams. The NCAA released its top 30 nonconference games of the 2025 season, and sure enough, Iowa vs Iowa State in week two is on the list. But why exactly is this game so important for both teams, outside of just the general rivalry? The stakes for this year's Cy-Hawk game For the Cyclones, this game is big because of their week zero matchup. Iowa State plays Big 12 rival Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland, in week zero to begin its season. If they pick up a win in that game and beat the Hawkeyes in week two, they'll establish themselves as a top team in the conference and a threat to make the College Football Playoff. If they lose in Ireland, they'll need to beat Iowa to avoid a 0-2 start to their season. Regardless of the week zero result, the Iowa game is huge for the Cyclones. And for the Hawkeyes, it's the first test of the 2025 season. They should take care of FCS Albany in week one (fingers crossed), but we won't know a whole lot about this team until after they travel to Ames in week two. A win over Iowa State with a strong performance from Mark Gronowski will have Hawkeye fans over the moon excited entering conference play. A loss to Iowa State would bring lots of questions over just how good Iowa is in 2025. For both teams, this is a pivotal swing game early in the season and could catapult or derail their season before it gets off the ground. When you add that to the bragging rights on the line, it's easy to see why the NCAA labeled this as one of the best nonconference games of the 2025 season. Contract extension updates for 3 key Broncos players

After the Denver Broncos gave a four-year contract extension to wide receiver Courtland Sutton earlier this week, attention quickly turned to the team's other players currently scheduled to become free agents in 2026. Among the notable players entering the final years of their contracts are defensive lineman Zach Allen, pass rusher Nik Bonitto and defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers. Denver has already started negotiations with Bonitto, and he recently told the Denver Post he has faith a deal will get done. Franklin-Myers, meanwhile, does not expect to get an extension before the season, according to the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson. The Broncos have not started negotiations with JFM, according to Tomasson, as the team focuses on potential extensions for Bonitto and Allen. JFM totaled 40 tackles, 18 quarterback hits and seven sacks in Denver last fall. He's certainly worthy of an extension (and a raise), but the Broncos might not be able to re-sign everyone. It's still possible that extension talks could begin during the season. For now, though, it sounds like JFM isn't on the verge of a new deal. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Geno VanDeMark

Entering the college football season, there might not be a more versatile offensive lineman on the Alabama Crimson Tide's 2025 roster than Geno VanDeMark. A transfer from Michigan State last offseason, VanDeMark burst onto the scene for Alabama a year ago as an instant impact addition, appearing in every game along the Crimson Tide's offensive line at a variety of different positions. Coming off that breakout season, VanDeMark now enters the 2025 campaign among the top options up front for the Crimson Tide once again, and is expected to make a significant impact this fall, similar to a year ago. Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark entering the 2025 season. Geno VanDeMark player information Position: Offensive Line Jersey Number: No. 56 Height: 6'5 Weight: 326 Class: Redshirt Senior Hometown: Lodi, New Jersey High School: Saint Joseph Geno VanDeMark career stats An experienced player at the collegiate level, VanDeMark will be entering his fifth season of college football in 2025, three of which came at Michigan State from 2021-23. Across his four previous seasons between Michigan State and Alabama, VanDeMark has appeared in 31 career games, 10 of which he has started. Geno VanDeMark 2024 stats The 2024 season was VanDeMark's first at Alabama, with the offensive lineman appearing in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide. VanDeMark started two games a year ago, one at left-and-right guard. Geno VanDeMark recruiting ranking Coming out of high school, VanDeMark was considered as the nation's No. 428 overall prospect in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 29 interior offensive lineman nationally that cycle. Rated as a three-star prospect, VanDeMark was also considered the No. 8 player in the state of New Jersey that cycle in which he attended St. Joseph Regional High School. Prior to Alabama, VanDeMark was considered as the No. 1,394 overall player in the transfer portal last offseason, per 247Sports, as well as the No. 106 interior offensive lineman. VanDeMark, rated as a three-star prospect as a transfer, also committed to Alabama in May 2024. Geno VanDeMark 2025 season outlook Simply put, VanDeMark will be one of Alabama's most important offensive linemen during the 2025 season. Competing for the starting left guard spot with transfer addition Kam Dewberry, VanDeMark could potentially enter the fall as a starter, but even if that were not to happen, the former Michigan State transfer will still play a major role as a piece that could rotate in-and-out when needed. This could come at left guard, as well as other spots such as right guard and center. However, don't be surprised if VanDeMark begins the season as the starting left guard either, and for the redshirt senior to help strengthen what should be a very good Alabama offensive line.
