Eagles' Saquon Barkley Sends Clear Message To Dallas Cowboys

The New York Giants have to expect Saquon Barkley's best effort every time they face him. Barkley's motivation to go the extra mile to dominate isn't just limited to his former team, though. The Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders fall under that category as well.
It's not just the fact that the Commanders and the Cowboys play in the same division as the Philadelphia Eagles. While that matters, Barkley sees matchups against those two teams as personal. He felt the love from the Eagles when he was considering moving on from the Giants.
When it came to the Commanders and the Cowboys... Nothing.
Barkley recently addressed that publicly, making a quick statement on a livestream with popular streamer Janky Rondo.
"[I] Never heard a word from the Commanders or Dallas," Barkley said. "That's why it's BTA when I see them."

The first time the Cowboys faced Barkley in an Eagles uniform was during Week 10 back in November. The Eagles dominated the matchup, although Barkley didn't have to go above and beyond for his team to contribute to the blowout victory.
Taking on just 14 carries, his second-lowest of the season, the star running back rushed for 66 yards. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry, then caught one pass for 12 yards. It was a quiet outing for Barkley the first time around, but the same couldn't be said later on in the year.

Saquon Barkley #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on prior to the game against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on December 29, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In what turned out to be Barkley's final regular-season game of the 2024 NFL season, Barkley took on a season-high 31 carries. He dominated the Dallas defense by rushing for 167 yards. The Eagles' star put the cherry on top of his first-ever 2,000 rushing yards season.
While Barkley found a lot of success against the Cowboys, no defense caught it worse than Washington in the NFC East. In a Week 11 matchup, Barkley rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 52 yards.
Later on in the season, Barkley took on 29 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns. As if it couldn't get any tougher on the Commanders, Barkley dominated their defense in the NFC Championship game by rushing for 118 yards on just 15 carries. He had three touchdowns, with one of them being a long run on the very first offensive play of the game for the Eagles.
Considering the Cowboys were expected to be in the market for a notable running back like Barkley, the veteran star might've been waiting to hear them out. In the end, it seems the Eagles were the only other NFC East team to make a true offer. In the end, it worked out for both parties.
As for the Cowboys, they hope their committee can help get the job done this season.

Two Commanders, including Jayden Daniels, named best on this unique list
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has had the NFL's top-selling jersey since the start of 2025. Only three other players sold more officially licensed merchandise in all of 2024: Saquon Barkley, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. Not only is it rare for a rookie to lead the NFL in jersey sales, but even more rare for a Washington player to top the list. Daniels put his No. 5 on the map. CBS recently conducted an exercise, picking the best NFL player with each jersey number from 0 - 99. Daniels was named the best No. 5 in the NFL. There are more established candidates here -- Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Drake London and Jalen Ramsey among them. But let's be honest: No. 5 belongs to Daniels as long as he's even half as magical as he was during his unflappably dynamic debut. He's already the face of the Commanders. There are some excellent No. 5s here, led by Ramsey, a potential future Hall of Famer. However, none are quarterbacks. While he's only been in the NFL one year, Daniels made his mark, leading the Commanders to their best season in 33 years and winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Daniels wasn't the only Commander to make this list. Tight end Zach Ertz was named the best No. 86: Fellow tight end Dalton Kincaid seemed like a real candidate to steal this one by catching passes from Josh Allen, but Ertz has actually been steadier, even going on 35. He's up over 1,100 career receptions. Ertz revived his career with the Commanders last season and was excited to continue playing another season with Daniels as his quarterback. Ertz enters his 13th NFL season with 775 career receptions. In case you were wondering why Terry McLaurin wasn't named the best No. 17, we have two words for you: Josh Allen.

Cowboys Trade For Trey Hendrickson Rumors Updated with Empty Connections
Cowboys Trade For Trey Hendrickson Rumors Updated with Empty Connections originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - NFL reigning sacks leader Trey Hendrickson wants to leave the Cincinnati Bengals. That is there problem. Advertisement The Dallas Cowboys have around $32 million under the salary cap. Is that their solution? It's right around July 4, the slowest time of the year for "news" in the NFL, with rosters set and training camps still weeks away. Add it all together, and lots of purported insiders and analysts are throwing "Hendrickson" and "Cowboys" together in headlines to see it it sticks. They use words like "urged" or "proposed" or "blockbuster" or even "connected." There's lots of Hendrickson to Cowboys keyword smoke. But absolutely no fire. The latest to join the fray is a site called Last Word on Sports. Their supposed reason for writing about the potential blockbuster trade of Hendrickson to Dallas? Advertisement "The Dallas Cowboys have been stacking up on talent defensively ever since they hired new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus," LWOS writes. "After signing Jack Sanborn and trading for Kenneth Murray Jr., they have some type of life following Demarcus Lawrence's departure. The hope is that they can extend Micah Parsons, but it would be interesting to see if Dallas could one day get Hendrickson to boost them to a well-rounded defensive line." "Interesting'' and "journalism'' are not the same thing. We've checked with the Cowboys on this. They recognize that this is no more than some fan-run sites playing Fantasy Football. Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024. He wants a new contract, and might hold out of training camp looking for a hefty raise. The Bengals aren't biting (yet), and gave him permission to seek a trade. Advertisement But the truth? Hendrickson will likely cost $30 million a year. The Cowboys are currently negotiating a new contract with Parsons. They're not going to dump their entire salary cap on Hendrickson. ... and they are not in the end going to employ a pair of pass-rushers - awesome as a Micah/Trey combo sounds - at a cost of $70 million APY. The Cowboys report for training camp July 21 in Oxnard, California. ... where we hope a Micah deal quiets the ongoing empty media game. Giants' Malik Nabers Talks 'Smack' About Commanders Instant Rivalry
Giants' Malik Nabers Talks 'Smack' About Commanders Instant Rivalry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There was a singular positive takeaway from last year of the New York Giants' 3-14 season. Malik Nabers, the sixth-overall pick from the 2024 draft, had one of the best seasons for a rookie wideout. ... ever. The LSU product recorded 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Advertisement His reception total is the most ever for a first-year receiver in NFL history. But ... He was the lone star on a bad Giants roster, but he showed enough to excite fans for the future. As he looks back on his first season in the league, Nabers is acknowledging - probably eith pride - that he was not immune to the dreaded "Welcome to the NFL" moment. In the case of the LSU product, his "NFL moment" came courtesy of the Washington Commanders in Week 2. "I ran like a shallow (cross), it was like third and 4, I think, third and 5, I ran the shallow, I caught the ball and I was going up the field on the right sideline, and one of the linebackers he came and hit me," Nabers told Dale Earnhardt Jr., in an episode of "Taking Laps with Dale Jr. "I seen him (Luvu) in my peripheral, but it's like I thought he was farther than what I expected. Advertisement "He smacked me, I ain't gonna lie. It looked harder than it seemed. He hit me, I popped right up, and I was like 'OK, alright, now I'm in the league.'" Call it an "instant rivalry'' born. Luvu is one of the most physical linebackers in the league and enjoyed an All-Pro season with the Commanders. His "smack'' on Nabers showed the rookie how fast each player is in the NFL. ... And how physical the game can be. Nabers was perfectly fine after the hit. He shrugged off the big blow with one of the greatest receiving years for a rookie in league history. ... catching 10 passes for 127 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Advertisement His development should only improve as he gets further acclimated to the game as the Commanders - who had no answer for Nabers - probably remember all the details of this day as well as he does.
