French midfielder eyes fresh start after doping suspension
Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco, marking a major step in his bid to revive a career disrupted by injury and suspension. The 32-year-old joins on a free transfer after leaving Juventus last year.
Pogba had been serving a doping ban since February 2024 after testing positive for DHEA, a substance that increases testosterone. The initial four-year ban was reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
His contract with Juventus was mutually terminated in November 2024, capping a troubled second spell in Turin plagued by injuries. Pogba returned to Juve in 2022 after leaving Manchester United, where he had once been the world's most expensive player.
A 2018 World Cup winner, Pogba has not featured for France since 2022, having missed the Qatar tournament due to knee surgery.
Now at Monaco, he hopes to return to form and fitness in Ligue 1, where his top-flight journey first began.

Bahrain name 28-man squad for Slovenia camp

Bahrain have announced a 28-man squad for their upcoming training camp in Slovenia, set to run from July 10 to July 24. Bahrain are coming off a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign where they finished bottom of their group. The camp will include multiple training sessions and friendly fixtures as Bahrain gear up for upcoming challenges under the direction of head coach Dragan Talajic. That includes building towards the FIFA Arab Cup, which takes place from December 1–18 in Qatar, across six FIFA World Cup venues. Mohamed Marhoon will miss the camp after finalising a move to Kuwait SC, signing a threeyear deal with the Kuwaiti Premier League club.

Gaza War Prompts Jordan Boycott

TDT | Manama Jordan has withdrawn from its scheduled FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup match against Israel in a move widely seen as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing war in Gaza. The match was set to take place on Sunday in Switzerland as part of Group C action. However, following discussions between the Jordanian team's technical and administrative staff, the Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF) formally requested to withdraw from the fixture. FIBA confirmed the withdrawal in an official statement, awarding a 20-0 victory to Israel by default in line with tournament rules. The JBF said its decision aligned with the federation's core values and principles. While the statement did not explicitly reference Gaza, Jordanian media outlets and regional commentators made the connection clear. The move quickly gained traction across social media, where users across the Arab world praised Jordan's stance as one of moral clarity. Many described the decision as 'a moral victory greater than any sporting result,' with messages reinforcing that 'the Palestinian cause is indivisible.' Israel's basketball federation expressed disappointment with the outcome. President Amos Frishman said he believes sport should be a bridge between cultures, not a political battleground. The game will not be rescheduled.

Wenger Vows Better Pitches at 2026 World Cup

TDT | Manama FIFA's Head of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger has pledged that pitch conditions will improve significantly for the 2026 World Cup, following widespread complaints during the ongoing Club World Cup in the U.S. Wenger admitted the turf quality at several venues, including Orlando, has fallen short of international standards. 'It's not at the level that the European clubs are used to,' the former Arsenal boss said. 'But that will be rectified for the World Cup next year.' Coaches and players, particularly from European clubs, have voiced concerns about dry, patchy fields and temporary grass laid over artificial surfaces. PSG coach Luis Enrique called out the conditions after his team's 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid, saying, 'The ball bounces like a rabbit.' He added: 'If we're calling this the best club tournament in the world, it should have world‑class facilities. I can't imagine an NBA game played on a court full of holes.' Wenger reassured that both stadium and training pitches will meet the required standards for 2026, when the U.S., Canada, and Mexico host the expanded tournament.
