Social media reacts to Clemson pitchers combining for a no-hitter in the win over Pitt
No. 13 Clemson made history on Friday night, as Aidan Knaak, Joe Allen, and Lucas Mahlstedt combined to throw the program's first no-hitter since 2009 in a 6-1 win over Pitt at Charles L. Cost Field.
It marked Clemson's 15th no-hitter all-time and its first in an ACC game since 1976. Knaak was in command from the start, tying career highs with 12 strikeouts and 7.1 innings pitched. The sophomore didn't allow a hit, issued three walks, and hit one batter on 112 pitches to improve to 8-1.
'It's as sharp as we've seen him all year,' head coach Erik Bakich said. 'He attacked the zone and trusted his stuff all night.'
Allen entered in the eighth and got four straight outs, but two ninth-inning walks brought in Mahlstedt, who got the final out on one pitch to complete the no-hitter.
Offensively, Clemson tallied 13 hits but continued to miss chances, going just 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Jacob Jarrell led the way with a 4-for-5 night that included his 12th home run. Cam Cannarella extended his hitting streak to 13 games and reached base for the 35th straight contest. Jarren Purify added his fifth homer of the year and swiped his 24th base. Andrew Ciufo, Jack Crighton, and Collin Priest all had two-hit games.
Clemson (39-15, 16-12 ACC) and Pitt (27-24, 10-18) continue their series on Saturday at 3 p.m. on ACCNX.

2025 Heisman Trophy Odds: Is 'Summer Favorite' Arch Manning a Good Bet?
One of the things I've learned covering sports betting over the last decade is it's not the best idea to bet the Heisman Trophy preseason favorite. Not a single "summer favorite" has won since 2015, and we've seen doozies like Sam Darnold, Leonard Fournette, Spencer Rattler and DJ Uiagalelei sit atop the betting boards as the calendar flipped to August. Conversely, we've seen players like Travis Hunter (50/1), Lamar Jackson (100/1) and Joe Burrow (200/1) defy betting odds to hoist the Heisman, while DeVonta Smith wasn't even listed before the 2020 campaign. Enter Arch Manning. The Texas quarterback with the million-dollar name is this year's favorite with a consensus price of around +600 in the market. Manning possesses insane upside on a team co-favored to win the national championship. That said, he threw for 939 yards last season with 13 total touchdowns. If Arch's last name was "Martin," the price might be double. "I wouldn't touch anything like that. It's such a crap shoot in August every year. "That's the beauty of college football. It's such a mystery how these Heisman races and All-American candidates will play out. Remember, Carson Beck was the favorite last year to win the Heisman and he ended up nowhere close. "I wouldn't touch any Heisman favorite." Ciancia's early darling is Clemson QB Cade Klubnik. "Even that's a little bit chalky at 9/1," he admitted. "He's a pretty safe bet coming in as a playoff contender. [Clemson] is going to be in the playoff mix, given how weak the ACC is. A very veteran roster around him, and they're building off a conference championship. That's my chalk pick. "If you want a lottery bet, I would go with Oklahoma's John Mateer at 30/1. It's going to be a high-powered, new-look offense there. He tore it up at Washington State with this same coordinator. I don't know if it's just the towel or the headband, but he looks like Baker Mayfield out there. "Similar playing style, he's going to get a ton of stats and if the Sooners make a run in the SEC, he'll be looked at as a Heisman candidate." I've buttered my bread with the aforementioned Beck, who transferred from Georgia to Miami to replace Heisman finalist and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. There's something to be said about a quarterback changing scenery to play in a system that's more conducive to putting up big numbers. FanDuel was dealing Beck at 37-1 a couple of weeks ago and yes, I would still bet him at 25-1 or higher if you're a little late to the party. Please don't bet FanDuel's current price at 18-1. Truth be told, Manning has the ability, name and surrounding talent to take this Heisman race and run with it. And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about him throwing three touchdowns against Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 30 and never looking back. 2025 Big Bets Report: Clemson CFP Title Will Equal $20k For Bettor
We're into the last week of July. Before you know it, college football season will be here, starting with a limited slate of games on Aug. 23. But some bettors are looking well beyond that date, all the way to the Jan. 19 College Football Playoff Championship Game. That includes a DraftKings Sportsbook customer looking to turn a few bucks into a lot more on a three-leg parlay. Read on for more on that customer's wager and other notable bets as the calendar heads toward August. Forward Thinking Way back in April, a day before the Masters began, a bettor at DraftKings put a mere $14 on this three-leg futures parlay: Rory McIlroy +650 to win the Masters Florida Panthers +800 to win the Stanley Cup Clemson +2000 to win the College Football Playoff Add those three up, and you've got odds of +141650, or in easier-to-digest terms, about 1417/1. The first two legs have long since delivered. McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a playoff to win the Masters, and for the second straight year, Florida topped Edmonton to win the Stanley Cup. So it's up to Clemson to finish it off. If the Tigers win it all, then that 14 bucks turns into $19,845. It's not far-fetched, either. Clemson has been a sharp offseason play in College Football Playoff odds, so much so that DraftKings has cut the Tigers' odds in half. Clemson is now the +1000 fifth choice to win the national title, behind only Ohio State (+500), Texas (+550), Georgia (+700) and Penn State (+750). Baseball Bingo Most of us don't know what it's like to cash a 12-leg parlay. Not only because most of us don't make 12-leg parlay bets, but more so because those bets rarely hit. But when they do, the payout is pretty good. A William Hill US customer in Nevada found that out on Sunday. The bettor mixed in some moneyline, runline and Over/Under plays on Sunday's MLB slate, wagering all of $5, at monster odds of +252029 — just beyond 2520/1. Adding to the difficulty: six legs were on in-game odds. All 12 legs got to the finish line, turning that bettor's five bucks into a healthy $12,601.49. On Wednesday, another lottery-ticket-style win surfaced, at Caesars Sports. A Nevada customer crafted a nine-leg parlay on MLB player props. The wager was $10. Add up all those odds, and it totals out to about +114001, or 1140/1. Somehow, every leg got there and the bettor ended up with $11,408.22. Punting on Pittsburgh Back to football, NFL odds are starting to percolate, too. The preseason kicks off Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game, pitting the Indianapolis Colts against the Baltimore Ravens. The regular season is just six weeks away. One of the more intriguing bets so far comes from a bettor who's hoping Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers have a complete disaster of a season. Caesars Sports took a $13.33 wager on the Steelers to go 0-17, at odds of +20000 (200/1). Keep in mind, the Steelers have never even had a losing record in 18 years under coach Mike Tomlin. But if somehow Pittsburgh runs totally off the rails this season, then that small wager turns into $2,679.33. I Like Big Bets and I Cannot Lie When it comes to NFL futures betting, it's usually Super Bowl odds that attract the biggest wagers. AFC and NFC championship odds often see some high-dollar plays, as well. But one of the biggest bets of the offseason is actually on division odds, specifically on the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC East. A Caesars Sports customer plopped down a massive $250,000 on the Bills -250. If Josh Allen & Co. win their sixth straight AFC East title, then the bettor will profit $100,000 (total payout $350,000). In Super Bowl odds, Caesars took a $60,000 bet on the Kansas City Chiefs +900. If K.C. gets back on track and wins its third title in four seasons, then the bettor collects $540,000 in profit (total payout $600,000). Caesars took a comparatively much more modest bet on the New York Jets to win the AFC title. An optimistic customer put $5,000 on the Jets +7500 to lift the Lamar Hunt Trophy. In the unlikely event that the Jets earn a trip to the Super Bowl, the bettor will profit a hefty $375,000. All I can say is good luck. It'd be a phenomenal story to write about. Packers claim speedy former Jets draft pick to help RB depth
The Green Bay Packers are claiming speedy running back Israel Abanikanda off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, according to Aaron Wilson and agent Shawn O'Gorman. Abanikanda, who is still only 22 years old, was a fifth-round pick of the New York Jets in 2023. He played in six games as a rookie, rushing 22 times for 70 yards and catching seven passes for 43 yards. Inactive for the first 12 games of the 2024 season, Abanikanda was waived by the Jets in December of 2024, leading to his arrival in San Francisco. The 49ers waived Abanikanda (5-10, 216) from the 90-man roster on Thursday. The Packers are strong at the top of the running back depth chart, with Pro Bowler Josh Jacobs, 2024 third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd and backups Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks leading the way. The Packers may see the need for more depth at training camp, considering rookie Amar Johnson is on the non-football injury list with a hamstring injury. Abanikanda would give the roster a sixth healthy running back with Johnson out. Abanikanda was a first-team All-ACC pick and third-team All-American in 2022 after rushing for 1,431 yards and scoring 21 total touchdowns across 11 games. He set Pitt's all-time record for rushing yards in a game when he gained 320 yards against Virginia Tech in 2022. Abanikanda also has experience returning kickoffs, including one kickoff return touchdown while at Pitt. While he didn't participate at the NFL Scouting Combine, Abanikanda had an excellent pro day, hitting 41" in the vertical leap, covering 10-8 in the broad jump and running the 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range. His unofficial Relative Athletic Score was 9.88 out of 10.0 given his pro day results. Abanikanda will need to pass a physical on Saturday to be officially signed to the Packers roster. The team doesn't practice again until Sunday.
