Brandy and Monica celebrate classic hit with new U.S. tour

R&B legends Brandy and Monica are set to reunite for a highly anticipated U.S. tour named The Boy Is Mine Tour .
This tour marks over 27 years since their iconic duet first captured hearts worldwide.
The tour will run from 16 October to 7 December, with stops in major cities including Chicago, Memphis, Los Angeles, and Houston.
This event is especially exciting for South African fans who have long celebrated the timeless appeal of their music.
Brandy shared her excitement about the tour, calling it 'a full-circle moment.' She said, 'Monica and I coming together again isn't just about the music, according to Melodic Mag.
It's about honouring where we came from and how far we've both come.' Monica echoed this sentiment, adding, 'The love that 'The Boy Is Mine' continues to receive means everything to me.
This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us.'
The tour will feature support from GRAMMY award-winning artists Kelly Rowland and Muni Long, alongside rising American Idol star Jamal Roberts.
This impressive lineup promises an unforgettable experience, blending classic hits with fresh sounds.
To promote the tour, Brandy and Monica released a creative mini-movie.
In it, the two artists break free from separate rooms in an asylum through the power of their collaborative track. This symbolised the strength and unity their music represents.
Since its release in 1998, The Boy Is Mine has been a cultural phenomenon. The song dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 13 consecutive weeks and remains a beloved anthem across generations.
Its influence extends beyond music; the duo recently appeared in Ariana Grande's homage music video and featured in a remix of the track last year.
This tour is a rare chance to connect with a piece of R&B history. The enduring popularity of The Boy Is Mine resonates globally. The song even continues to receive airplay and inspire local artists.
Tickets for the tour are expected to be in high demand.
While prices vary, converting typical U.S. ticket costs of around $75 to South African Rand places them near R1,500.
This makes this a valuable opportunity for fans to witness two powerhouse performers live.
Brandy and Monica's reunion is more than a nostalgic trip; it's a celebration of their lasting impact on music and culture.
As Brandy said, 'This tour honours our journey and the fans who have supported us every step of the way.'
South African music lovers should keep an eye out for any potential international dates or special broadcasts, as this tour promises to be a landmark event in R&B history.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Francois Verster, this remarkable film will hit screens across South Africa from 25 to 30 July 2025. This screening represents a momentous occasion in South African cultural history, marking the first time this monumental symphonic work is presented nationwide by a South African orchestra in such a cinematic format. Conducted by the esteemed Marin Alsop, the film was captured live at the iconic Cape Town City Hall in 2022. It promises to offer a fresh interpretation of Beethoven's timeless Ode to Joy, infused with a uniquely South African essence. Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Mzansi Philharmonic, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, 'This historic presentation will showcase the iconic Ode to Joy, reimagined with a unique South African soul.' He highlighted the collaboration with Grammy-winning artist Wouter Kellerman and his ensemble, which adds depth to the performance by integrating the Zulu language alongside the original German text, thereby reflecting the nation's rich linguistic diversity and artistic expression. Image: Supplied Lynne Wylie, Head of Marketing at Ster-Kinekor, echoed this sentiment, stating, 'We're incredibly proud to partner with South Africa's national orchestra to bring this world-class cultural event to cinemas across the country. At Ster-Kinekor, we believe in the power of cinema to connect audiences with powerful stories, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 Concert Film is exactly that: a story of joy, unity, and the beauty of cultural fusion.' With its unique artistic vision, this film promises to resonate deeply with South African audiences, bringing the magic of live orchestral performance to the big screen. The cultural significance of this initiative goes beyond entertainment; it aims to foster civic pride and engagement among South Africans. By reaching diverse audiences, from students to culture enthusiasts and the general public, the concert film encourages greater participation in the arts, paving the way for a new generation of South African musicians and artists. Nicole Haynes, Business and Tour Manager of Mzansi Philharmonic and associate producer of the film, articulated the orchestra's mission, stating, 'This project represents a landmark in our mission to make world-class orchestral music accessible to all South Africans.' She emphasised the universal themes of hope, joy, and resilience embedded in Beethoven's music, inviting every audience member to connect across backgrounds. Francois Verster, reflecting on his experience as part of this collaborative project, remarked, 'Being able to make a film of a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony during the Mzansi Philharmonic Orchestra's first nationwide tour has been a wonderful opportunity. Full symphony concerts are rarely viewed in cinemas, and what we have attempted with this film is to offer a new way of presenting a concert within the cinema space. This project aims to interpret the music while emphasising the musicians' experience, creating an immersive atmosphere that places viewers on stage with them.' In addition to its artistic merits, the concert film is expected to yield substantial economic benefits for South Africa's creative sector. The arts contribute significantly to the nation's economy, supporting thousands of jobs and driving cultural tourism. During the Mzansi Philharmonic's successful first national tour in December 2022, over 250 artists were employed, including musicians, choristers, visual artists, and performers. This film project, alongside the orchestra's national tours, aims to widen access to orchestral music, stimulate interest in the arts, and showcase South Africa's cultural exports on a global platform.

Romance is not dead: it's just evolved! Explore the new love landscape

Romance isn't dead; it's simply evolved. Its essence endures, now expressed through the finer details. Image: kingoumar We've all heard it before, romance is dead. Whether it's uttered in frustration after a ghosting situation or casually thrown around in memes, the idea has taken hold. But if you pause the doomscrolling and take a deeper look, you'll find romance isn't dead, it's just had a much-needed glow-up. Is romance really dead? Here's why modern love is thriving in the details The phrase "romance is dead" has been tossed around for years, often as a lament for times when grand gestures like handwritten letters or surprise serenades were the norm. But take a closer look at today's relationships, and you'll see that romance isn't dead it's simply evolved. Our lives move faster than ever, love has shifted from lavish displays to intentional, everyday acts of care that hit closer to the heart. The new face of romance is more personal, practical and accessible, proving that love thrives in the details. One clear example of this shift comes from South African YouTuber and content creator Elhadj Bah, known as 'King Oumar'. In a viral video titled 'Surprising my girlfriend with a romantic dinner date', Bah demonstrates how meaningful gestures don't need to break the bank; they just need to come from the heart. His carefully planned evening, which included flowers, candles, handwritten notes, and music, captivated not just his girlfriend but also millions of viewers. It's a reminder that romance today isn't about extravagance; it's about intentionality. The romance blueprint: Understanding the love languages At the core of modern romance lies a timeless truth: love flourishes when it's expressed in ways that resonate deeply with your partner. Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages remains one of the most enduring frameworks for understanding how people give and receive love. By identifying whether your partner values words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, or gifts, you can tailor your gestures to make them feel truly seen and appreciated. Bah's video is a perfect example of this philosophy in action. His girlfriend's love for thoughtful surprises was met with a meticulously planned evening. From sourcing decorative pieces online to positioning a heartfelt handwritten note that read 'open me' as the first thing she saw, every detail was designed to show her she was his priority. Instead of grandiosity, Bah focused on creating an intimate moment that felt personal and genuine. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ How to speak your partner's love language Here's how you can infuse intentionality into your relationship, using the five love languages as your guide. Words of affirmation: Say what you mean For those who value verbal expressions of love, thoughtful words can go a long way. Compliments, encouragement, and heartfelt notes can make your partner feel cherished. You could gift them something as simple as The Five-Minute Journal, which can double as a space to exchange loving notes and affirmations. It's a tangible way to keep your connection alive through meaningful words. Quality time: Be present We live in a world where undivided attention is rare and valuable. To help ensure you prioritise time for each other, physical planners or time-blocking apps can be a lifesaver. Whether it's a cosy picnic or a quiet evening cooking together, the key is to create moments where your partner feels they're your focus. Acts of service: Actions speak louder Sometimes love is in the little things, making coffee in the morning, running an errand, or doing something that lightens your partner's load. Small efforts like these can speak volumes. Physical touch: Connection beyond words For some, love is felt most deeply through touch, whether it's a hug, a kiss, or simply holding hands. Enhancing these moments with small thoughtful touches can elevate the experience. Gifts When gifts are your partner's love language, it's not about how much you spend but how much thought you put into it. Online platforms like Temu make finding unique, affordable gifts easier than ever. A recent "News24" survey found that 46% of South African shoppers saved more than half their budgets on the platform, proving that meaningful gifts are within reach for everyone. Whether it's planning a surprise date or simply leaving a sticky note on the fridge, these gestures show your partner that they matter. Image: Monstera Production/pexels The secret sauce of modern romance: Thoughtfulness What Bah's viral video and countless other everyday love stories teach us is that romance thrives on thoughtfulness. A candlelit dinner, a handwritten note, or even an inside joke woven into a small gesture can bring you closer to your partner. It's not about competing with Hollywood standards of love but about creating moments that feel authentic to your relationship. A 2023 study by psychologist Dr Terri Orbuch found that couples who focus on small, thoughtful acts of affection report higher levels of satisfaction in their relationships. Whether it's planning a surprise date or simply leaving a sticky note on the fridge, these gestures show your partner that they matter. Romance is alive, and it's in the details. Far from being dead, romance is alive and well, it's just wearing a new outfit.
