Magic rookie Jase Richardson pulled up to Michigan State practice after summer league
Richardson was named to the All-Big Ten third team last season with the Spartans, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 41.2% shooting from 3-point range as a freshman. He ranked ninth in the country in box plus-minus (plus-11.6) and 14th in offensive rating (132).
The 25th overall pick was spotted this week at the practice facility chatting with former head coach Tom Izzo on the court. He also posted a photo on Instagram of the Spartans' court.
Richardson averaged 16.5 points, 2.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and one block on 55.6% shooting from the field with the Magic in summer league. He, along with second-year forward Tristan da Silva, was shut down after two appearances.
The 19-year-old was highly-touted entering the 2025 NBA draft as a guard who takes care of the ball, shoots well and can defend. He displayed those qualities in a limited sample size, while also playing through contact and running the offense well.
Richardson checks a lot of boxes for the Magic and was a player they were even looking at with the 16th pick before trading it away. He faces an uphill battle vying for rotational minutes, but he appeared to pass the test in his first action on the court in the desert.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson says he's preparing himself as if he'll be under center when the season opens against the Dolphins on September 7. Richardson is competing with Daniel Jones for the starting job in Indianapolis, and Richardson said he has lofty goals for himself and his team. 'I've just got to work as if I am going to be the Day One starter,' Richardson said. 'Regardless of what decision they make, I'm still working, trying to improve. They're going to make the best decision for this team, and that's what we need. This team wants to win the Super Bowl. It's not about me, it's about the team. I'm just working as if I am the starter, and if I don't get the job, you know, glory to God.' For his part, Jones said he's trying not to look any further than the next practice. 'All of our jobs as players is to come out, work and improve every day,' Jones said. 'You're human, you think about where you are and how it's going, but I've got to do the best I can to focus on what's in front of me.' Richardson and Jones were both highly drafted quarterbacks who so far have not lived up to expectations. The Colts need one of them to step up and play like a franchise quarterback.

In 2023, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer founded the Caitlin Clark Foundation. She has already helped out local foundations and charities in Iowa over the past two years. "Caitlin's passion and joy on the court inspire her foundation's work off the court. The Caitlin Clark Foundation's mission is to uplift and improve the lives of youth and their communities through education, nutrition, and sports—three pillars Caitlin believes were foundational in her success," the foundation's mission statement reads. This past Monday, the All-Star guard for the Fever returned to Des Moines to help out the youth. She provided 500 backpacks full of school supplies for students at McCombs Middle School. Clark's incredible work this week was part of the grand opening for a new outdoor court McCombs Middle School. The court was funded by the Caitlin Clark Foundation and Musco Lighting. Unsurprisingly, basketball fans praised Clark for once again making an impact through her foundation. "This is what it's all about! This is bigger then basketball and she understands that," one fan commented on Instagram. "Thank you Caitlin," another Instagram user wrote. "Shoutout to Caitlin Clark and her foundation for helping the marginalized, underrepresented communities in her home state of Iowa," one fan said. I love to see Caitlin giving back, especially to the youth," another fan said. Clark finished this trip to McCombs Middle School by getting some shots up with a few kids. "It's always fun for myself to come back here and be in Des Moines. Obviously, this place means so much to me, and I hope to be able to continue to come back here and do this every year," Clark said, via Hawkeyes Wire.
