‘Superman' trailer: David Corenswet's Man of Steel faces heat as Lois Lane questions his interference in a war

The Hindu15-05-2025

James Gunn, filmmaker and CEO of DC Studios, unveiled a new trailer of his much-hyped Superman film on Wednesday (May 14). Starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, the film promises to tell a one-of-a-kind live-action Superman story.
The trailer begins with Clark Kent agreeing to Lois Lane's (Rachel Brosnahan) request to sit for an interview as Superman. The Son of Krypton abides, however, the interview soon turns into a grilling session as Lane questions him on several decisions he had just taken, including interfering in a war. While an annoyed Superman defends himself, stating that he stopped the war and prevented the deaths of countless, we cut to glimpses that show the superhero's actions being questioned by the media, the government, and the people he strives to protect. At one point, he is even arrested for his interference with the war.
The trailer also shows Superman having to take on the evil Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who seems to have an issue with how Superman has 'somehow become the focal point of the entire world's conversation.' The trailer ends with Pa Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince) telling Clark, 'Your choices, your actions, that's what makes you who you are.'
The trailer also glimpses at Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan's Matamorpho and Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, among others. The Hammer of Boravia and Ultraman too make appearances.
The cast of the film also features Skyler Gisondo (as Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer). María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk and Neva Howell also feature in the film.
DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn produce the film, which has a screenplay written by Gunn. The director is joined by his frequent collaborators for the technical side of things: director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with editors William Hoy, Jason Ballantine and Craig Alpert.
Superman takes flight in the US on July 11 and internationally on July 9.

Exciting updates on 'The Batman 2': Script completion announced by Matt Reeves

After several delays, the DC fans eventually got some great news about the much-awaited sequel to 'The Batman'. The photo of the completed script was shared by the writer, as well as director Matt Reeves , on Friday. In the Instagram post, Reeves shared 'Partners in Crime (Fighters),' mentioning his co-writer Tomlin. Even though the first page of the script is blurred, the logo of The Batman is clearly visible. The fans were too excited and were also waiting for a longer time for news about 'The Batman Part II,' which was at first announced in April 2022, right after the original Robert Pattinson-led film hit theaters. 'The Batman' update comes just a few weeks before the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe with the release of 'Superman' in theaters. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn resolved fans' online frustration about the delay in 'The Batman Part II' script. 'Listen, we're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it,' Gunn told. And also defended Matt Reeves and said, 'People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does. ' Gunn added further, 'I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.'
