Apart from Chennai, the other nine districts included in the first phase of the project are Tirunelveli, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Ranipet, Erode, Dharmapuri, Nagapattinam, the Nilgiris, and Cuddalore.
On June 17, TNIE was the first to report on the government's decision to roll out the project across the state.
According to official sources from the cooperation and food department, the door-to-door delivery project aims to cover cardholding families where the members are either below 18 years of age or 70 years and above. Cardholding families where all the members fall in the disabled category will also be covered under the scheme, sources said.
As part of the initiative, 10 ration shops in the southern zone of Chennai have been selected to serve around 650 ration cardholders.
PDS home-delivery initiative to benefit 15L ration cardholders
The selected areas are Velachery, Saidapet, Jaffarkhanpet, Nesapakkam, and surrounding regions. The commodities under the pilot drive will be delivered before July 5. The initiative, expected to be formally launched by Chief Minister M K Stalin in a week or two, will benefit 15 lakh of the total 2.21 crore ration cardholders across all 38 districts in the state.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 4 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced an underwriting auction for the sale of government securities worth Rs 32,000 crore on Friday. The auction will cover both issue of new government security and the re-issue of an existing one. 'The underwriting auction will be conducted through multiple price-based method on July 04, 2025 (Friday). PDs may submit their bids for ACU auction electronically through Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber) System,' the RBI said. The securities include a new Government Security (GS) maturing in 2040 and a re-issue of the 6.90 per cent GS maturing in 2065, each carrying a notified amount of Rs 16,000 crore. These bonds will be sold through a competitive bidding process involving Primary Dealers (PDs). In simple terms, an underwriting auction is conducted by the RBI to ensure that the full amount of government bonds being issued is subscribed, even if market demand is uncertain. Primary Dealers act as underwriters in this process, they commit to purchasing any unsold portion of the bonds. This mechanism helps the government raise funds smoothly for its expenditure needs. As per the RBI's underwriting commitment scheme, each PD has a Minimum Underwriting Commitment (MUC) of Rs 381 crore for each of the two securities. They are also required to place bids for at least Rs 381 crore under the Additional Competitive Underwriting (ACU) auction. The auction will follow a multiple price-based method and will be held through the RBI's E-Kuber system. The underwriting commission, or fee paid to PDs for their commitment, will be credited to their accounts on the day the securities are issued. This auction is part of the government's regular borrowing program and highlights the RBI's role in facilitating smooth debt market operations. (ANI)

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform the state into a global seafood export hub, targeting USD 5 billion in exports by significantly scaling up value-added processing and infrastructure along its 1,076-km coastline — the second longest in India, according to state Industries Minister Dr TRB Rajaa. The plan was announced at the Tamil Nadu Seafood – Business Connect event held in Chennai, where senior state officials engaged with global importers and domestic players from India's seafood processing ecosystem to forge new partnerships and boost exports. "Under the leadership of Chief Minister M K Stalin, Tamil Nadu aims to shift away from merely exporting raw catch to becoming a centre for processed, high-quality seafood products. The state intends to build end-to-end infrastructure, including modern processing units, efficient cold chain logistics, and export-grade packaging facilities across its coastal districts," the minister stated. 'This initiative is not just about trade. It is also about creating sustainable livelihoods, improving incomes for our fishing communities, and tapping into the immense potential of the Blue Economy.' A detailed roadmap will be drawn up to operationalise the $5 billion target, with the government promising strategic investments and infrastructure support to catalyse the sector's growth. The move comes at a time when global demand for processed and sustainably sourced seafood is rising, offering Tamil Nadu a window to reposition itself in the global value chain.
