ITV Grantchester fans devastated after 'heartbreaking' final season announcement
ITV has shattered the hearts of many by confirming that the much-loved Grantchester will be back for an eleventh season, which will also mark its last.
The hit crime drama, which transports viewers to the 1950s, debuted in 2014, and fans are keenly awaiting the yet-to-be-released tenth season.
And it's now been revealed that it'll be the penultimate, with filming for the final series beginning this month as the show comes to an end after 11 years.
The final bow will feature Robson Green reprising his role as Geordie alongside Rishi Nair as Alphy, with Al Weaver returning as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Bradley Hall as DC Larry Peters and Melissa Johns as Miss Scott.
Disconsolate fans have taken to social media, lamenting the end of an era, even though they've been assured that Geordie and Alphy will be "going out with a bang", reports Cambridgeshire Live.
One tormented viewer expressed: "I feel like I'm going to cry when it ends. I love the characters on this show." While another simply let out a heartrending "Final.....nooooooooo."

"Say it isn't so," a dismayed fan begged, as others shared their grief, with comments like: "This always happens to the best shows."
Daisy Coulam, writer, series creator and executive producer, said: "At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We've been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen.
"For over a decade now - cast and crew (many who've been there since the beginning) have met each Summer to film. And it's been an absolute joy.
"Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters. Thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester. Thank you to everyone who's been a part of the show in any way - big or small. I'll miss you terribly."

Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Executive Producer for Kudos, added: "We are absolutely delighted to be returning for another series of Grantchester adventures.

The new season will take place in the summer of 1963, and reveal Alphy learning more about his past as he comes to realize that there is a whole other life he could have led, making him question who he is and what he believes in.

The synopsis goes on to tease that Geordie is "positively brimming with bonhomie!"
"He's learned to weather the storms of life and is enjoying a time of relative peace," it adds.
He receives a "beguiling offer" that could be a chance to finally be in charge or an end to his crime solving days and partnership with Alphy.
"In Series 11 everyone will question the paths they are on, and some huge decisions will be made. This season will look at family, forgiveness, identity, and faith – big changes are coming to Grantchester..." ITV hinted.

ITV Loose Women chaos as co-stars clash over 'cheating' confession
Brenda Edwards opened up on the unexpected way she met her ex husband on Monday's Loose Women as one outspoken ITV co-star disagreed with her Loose Women stars Janet Street-Porter and Brenda Edwards clashed in today's episode of the ITV panel show. The pair, who were appearing alongside Charlene White and Katie Piper on Monday's instalment, had a disagreement over the recent Coldplay Kiss cam cheating scandal. After footage of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief Kristin Cabot went viral last week when they were spotted embracing in the crowd of the band's Boston gig and later, Byron resigned. Today, Brenda said that she believed he was 'right to step down' after the firm released a statement saying that 'standards had not been met' by his actions, while Janet argued that his personal life and the alleged affair with a colleague shouldn't have affected his ability to run a company. Brenda, who admitted that she met her ex-husband through work, said that it was Byron's own fault that the alleged affair was exposed because the pair were in a public space. She said: 'They were listening to Coldplay music and swaying, and both of them ducked. Why do ducking?" Katie chimed in, adding that there should have been more thought by the pair as children are involved, prompting Brenda to reply that they should have considered the kids earlier. Janet, 78, stepped in to argue that she'd seen countless affairs going on in the offices of most of the newspaper offices she worked in, claiming most of the men in charge were involved with colleagues, however she reused to name names, only to state that it goes on 'all the time' in workplaces. The former newspaper editor, who has been married four times, has spoken out previously about her own infidelity. She said on Monday: 'I find it extraordinary that companies have a moral code, because I don't actually care'. She then went on to highlight the fact the furore around the alleged affair has only meant that Astronomer's profile has been boosted. Janet added: "As someone who has had affairs, I would not be that judgemental. To me, I think it could be entirely innocent.' Brenda, fuming at Janet's words, erupted: "Innocent?!' She then started to shout over Janet and made it clear she disaproved, reports the Mirror. Host Charlene stepped in to end the debate before things got even more heated and brought the topic to a close. She touched on a recent Loose Women poll which found 83 per cent of viewers had no sympathy for the pair, as Brenda added she felt sorry for the wife of the CEO. Janet also referenced former Health Secretary Matt Hancock's extramarital affair with aide Gina Coladangelo. But it was Brenda's behaviour on the show that caught the attention of viewers. One took to X, formerly Twitter. To say: "Calm the f*** down, Brenda! And what about the woman involved, hmm? Proper aggressive behaviour on display.' TV legend who famously beat King Charles in charity race ends 60-year career on Tuesday
Derek 'Tommo' Thompson, 74, who famously beat King Charles III in a charity race will commentate on his last race at Wolverhampton on Tuesday night Legendary TV commentator Derek Thompson brings down the curtain on his 60 year career when he calls his final race at Wolverhampton on Tuesday. One of the most recognisable figures in horse racing has been a regular on-course and for BBC radio, while also presenting for ITV, Channel 4, At The Races and Sky Sports Racing during a nearly 60-year broadcasting career. The 74-year-old was even part of a three-strong group that attempted to negotiate the release of Shergar after the 1981 Derby winner was kidnapped. He also enjoyed time in the spotlight when what became his famous catchphrase, 'Are you well? I thought you were', appeared on Radio One courtesy of Greg James before going viral, as did an At The Races clip of him when he mistook a man for a woman during an exchange on Sky. Thompson said: 'I'll be brutally honest, it's not going to be easy because I still love it to this day and I'm so proud that I'm one of about 20 people that do the race calling in the UK. 'I've been doing it for so many years that it's time to move on. It's not getting any easier, but I still love it. I've been very lucky, I'm paid to go to the races. Other people have to pay to get in. I've got the best seat in the house.' Thompson announced he would be retiring from the commentators' booth last year. He continued: 'I'm absolutely stunned by the amount of people that have come up – and that's not just older people like me, but younger people as well – and said can I have a selfie, can I have your autograph. It's just lovely. 'The messages I've been getting on social media, thank you so much, it's lovely, it almost brought a tear to my eye. It's very moving and it makes me feel very proud.' While Thompson will be putting down his binoculars, he certainly does not plan to be a stranger to the racecourse and hopes to take his affable style around the country. Thompson said: 'I'll still be presenting at the racetracks around the country and hoping to organise a little tour called, 'Are you well? I thought you were', or 'It's a man actually, Derek', so we're hoping to continue the fun side of racing because I'm a great believer in enjoying racing. Thompson also famously once raced against the then future King in a charity event and remembers the race fondly. He said: 'I beat him, Prince Charles as he was then. I rode a horse for Nicky Henderson called Classified and I beat him at Plumpton. 'There were about 12 runners, it was a two-mile Flat race and it was incredible. We occasionally have a chat at the races, Royal Ascot and stuff and we get together sometimes. 'I always say, 'Sir, I'm sorry I beat you all those years ago and he says 'don't worry, I forgave you', but the (late) Queen goes, 'but I haven't, Tommo'. It was incredible.'
