While final rankings are yet to be officially announced, these cities were invited to participate in the award ceremony scheduled for July 17 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
Each nominated city will send a 10-member delegation, including the mayor or chairperson, Commissioner or Chief Municipal Officer, sanitation nodal officers, Safai Mitra, and other key representatives.
An online coordination meeting was held by the MP urban development department here on Saturday.
In addition to the ceremony, officials will attend workshops on July 17 and 18.

Centre tells states to take strict action against those selling fake, poor quality fertilisers

New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chauhan has written to the Chief Ministers of all States and Union Territories to take immediate and strict action against those selling counterfeit and substandard fertilisers to farmers. The letter has been issued to curb the sale of fake fertilisers, black marketing of subsidised fertilisers, and illegal activities such as forced tagging across the country, an official statement said. The Minister has emphasised, in the letter, that agriculture is the backbone of India's economy, and to ensure stability in farmers' income, it is essential to provide them with quality fertilisers at the right time, at affordable prices, and of standard quality. He has also highlighted that the sale of counterfeit or substandard fertilisers is prohibited under the Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985, which falls under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has highlighted that it is the responsibility of the States to ensure adequate availability of fertilisers at the right places and locations where it is required. Therefore, states must strictly monitor and take swift action against activities such as black marketing, overpricing, and diversion of subsidised fertilisers. He has asked them to undertake regular monitoring of fertiliser production and sale, as well as strict control over counterfeit and substandard products through sampling and testing. The Union Minister has further stated that forced tagging of nano-fertilisers or bio-stimulant products along with conventional fertilisers should be stopped immediately. He has also recommended that strict legal action, including cancellation of licenses and registration of FIRs, should be taken against the culprits, and effective prosecution must be ensured to secure a conviction. Besides, states have been directed to develop feedback and information systems to involve farmers in the monitoring process and to make special efforts to educate farmers on identifying genuine and counterfeit products.

Chouhan urges state CMs to combat counterfeit fertilisers, forced tagging

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to the Chief Ministers of all states and Union Territories, urging them to stop the forced tagging of nano-fertilisers or bio-stimulant products with conventional fertilisers. He also called for strict action against the sale of substandard fertilizers and their black-marketing. Sources said that Chouhan's letter followed feedback from farmers during the fortnight-long 'Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,' which concluded last month, as well as from interactions outside the campaign. The minister had also stated during a review meeting of the campaign that special steps, including stringent laws, should be enacted to curb the spread of spurious seeds and fertilisers among farmers. Regarding the forced tagging of nano products such as nano urea and nano-DAP with conventional fertilisers, sources noted that companies have often been found resorting to such practices to boost sales. He highlighted that the sale of counterfeit or substandard fertilisers is prohibited under the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985, which falls under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Furthermore, Chouhan stated in the letter that it is the responsibility of the states to ensure the adequate availability of fertilisers at the right places and locations where they are needed. Therefore, states must strictly monitor and take swift action against activities such as black-marketing, overpricing, and the diversion of subsidised fertilisers. He also instructed them to ensure regular monitoring of fertiliser production and sales, as well as strict control over counterfeit and substandard products through sampling and testing. On the forced tagging of nano-fertilisers or bio-stimulant products with conventional fertilizers, Chouhan insisted that it should be 'stopped' immediately. 'Strict legal action, including the cancellation of licences and registration of FIRs, should be taken against the culprits, and effective prosecution must be ensured to secure conviction,' the statement said. The letter also directed states to develop feedback and information systems involving farmers or farmer groups in the monitoring process and to make special efforts to educate farmers on how to identify genuine and counterfeit products. Chouhan urged all states to launch a state-wide campaign in line with these directions to eliminate the problem of fake and substandard agricultural inputs at its roots.

Government to promote private players for rare earth magnet production, says G Kishan Reddy

Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Saturday said that the government has introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes to encourage participation of private players in rare earth permanent magnets production. The Centre has initiated PLI schemes, which offer financial incentives tied directly to measurable outcomes and have been designed to boost domestic manufacturing. While talking to ANI, the Union Minister said, "For this, the Indian government has also started some PLI schemes to encourage it. We are paying attention to this subject. The Prime Minister has continuously discussed this subject. Recently, during his visit to 5 countries, discussions were held with different countries on this subject. The raw material of rare earth is also available in smaller quantities in India. Importing raw materials, processing them, and manufacturing permanent magnets for various applications, including cell phones, space technology, and defence, creates a huge demand. The Indian government is working seriously for this. This scheme has also been brought under it." Additionally, the Minister also highlighted India's shift in sourcing strategy, noting that India was previously entirely dependent on China for rare-earth permanent magnets. India, earlier, relied entirely on imports from China for the permanent magnets, the Minister said. He added that the Non-Ferrous Materials Technology Development Centre (NFTDC), supported by the Ministry of Mining in Hyderabad, has successfully prepared a permanent magnet processing unit equipped with the necessary machinery. The central government plans to provide the technology developed by NFTDC to private factories for manufacturing. "We used to be 100 per cent dependent on China for permanent magnets of the rare earths. But recently, China has refused to supply. With this view, the Indian government is making efforts for permanent magnet manufacturing. Our mining ministry's institute in Hyderabad has made efforts and prepared a permanent magnet processing unit with equipment. After three to four months, we will try to manufacture permanent magnets by giving the technology to different private factories," Reddy told ANI. In April 2024, China announced that it would impose export controls on certain rare earth-related items, triggering a global supply shortage, including in India. In the light of rare earth magnet production, on Friday, Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) , welcomed the central government initiatives to ramp up rare earth magnet production in India, particularly the incentives the latter is earmarking for. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the setting up of the Critical Mineral Mission in the Union Budget for 2024-25 on July 23, 2024. The Union Cabinet in January 2025 approved the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with an expenditure of Rs 16,300 crore and an expected investment of Rs 18,000 crore by Public Sector Undertakings.
