Criminal justice system enters new era: Shah
Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized that India's criminal justice system is undergoing a transformative shift towards a more secure, transparent, and evidence-based model. His remarks came during a two-day visit to West Bengal, where he inaugurated the new building of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Rajarhat, Kolkata.
While addressing the gathering, Shah stated, 'The Indian government is creating a secure, transparent and evidence-based criminal justice system. It is necessary that those who stop crime should be two steps ahead of the criminals. Our criminal justice system is entering a new era.' He highlighted the essential role of forensic science in modern law enforcement and the need to continuously advance in this area to combat evolving criminal activities.
Shah underscored the foresight of the central government in establishing the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in 2020, even before the introduction of three significant criminal laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

Embrace ideas, values of Constitution from Preamble Park: Fadnavis, Gadkari
1 2 Nagpur: Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar crafted the Indian Constitution by blending global and timeless Indian values, with the Preamble being its core. If citizens embrace the values enshrined in the Preamble, 90% of the country's issues could be resolved permanently, said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday. Fadnavis was speaking during the inauguration of the Constitution Preamble Park and a full-length statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Gavai on the premises of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law. Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari , said the park will spread the Constitution's fundamental ideas among students and the public. Fadnavis stated that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for him that the Constitution Preamble Park and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue are being unveiled at the same law college where he studied constitutional principles and put them into practice. The CM stressed that completion and public opening of this park during the Amrit Mahotsav year of the Constitution is particularly significant. "The Indian Constitution has established a robust democracy, ensuring freedom of expression, fundamental rights, equal opportunities, and a system for delivering justice. This has enabled India to become the world's fourth-largest economy. The Preamble is the essence of the Constitution, and its values need to be embraced by all citizens," he said. Fadnavis expressed confidence that the park will inspire everyone who visits it. He also announced that a new building for the School of Law would be constructed, and all necessary facilities would be provided for the park. Gadkari said Nagpur University took the initiative to establish the Constitution Preamble Park, which was realised with financial support from the state govt and public participation. He highlighted that the university has produced eminent personalities like a Prime Minister, while Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College has given the country two CJIs. "The establishment of the park adds to this legacy," he said. Social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat discussed the financial and other support provided by the social justice ministry for the park's establishment. Senior social activist and chairman of the Constitution Preamble Park Committee, Girish Gandhi, provided details of the park's development stages. Nagpur University acting VC Madhavi Khode-Chaware, School of Law director Ravishankar Mor, Constitution Preamble Park Committee members and others were present on the occasion. Committee member Puran Meshram read out the Constitution's Preamble.

Gadkari steps in as flooded RuBs trigger public outcry
Nagpur: Faced with years of neglect and bureaucratic buck-passing over the maintenance of waterlogged underbridges, Union minister for road transport and highways and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to immediately take over Manish Nagar and Somalwada RuBs from MahaMetro. Both structures have drawn criticism from motorists, particularly the Manish Nagar RuB, which gets flooded even with a brief drizzle. The intervention comes as citizens grow increasingly frustrated over near-daily waterlogging across key RuBs in the city. The NMC, which long refused to assume responsibility for the MahaMetro-constructed RuBs, has now relented under Gadkari's orders. "On the lines of Narendra Nagar RuB constructed by state PWD, the NMC will now maintain both Manish Nagar and Somalwada RuBs," confirmed chief engineer Manoj Talewar, adding that the takeover process has begun. The latest move puts the spotlight on the worsening condition of RuBs across Nagpur. Besides the Anand Talkies RuB — which remains dry thanks to proper elevation planning by the NMC — every other underbridge, including Cotton Market, Gaddigodam, Loha Pul, Mankapur, Mehdibagh, and Narendra Nagar, continues to experience severe waterlogging during the monsoon. In fact, many stay waterlogged even on dry days, say regular commuters. Currently, the Mankapur RuB is maintained by NHAI and Mehdibagh by the Indian Railways, while the NMC manages the sump and pump system at Narendra Nagar. Despite this multi-agency setup, none of the departments succeeded in offering a permanent solution. To complicate matters, four new RuBs are being built in central and east Nagpur under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund Scheme. Unless proper drainage planning is incorporated, experts fear they may add to the list of daily hazards. What was meant to be an infrastructure upgrade for smoother commutes has now turned into a public safety concern. With water levels often rising above knee-deep during rains, motorists face stalled vehicles, skidding, and damaged engines — sometimes with life-threatening consequences. If Gadkari's intervention results in systematic upgrades, it may finally mark the beginning of accountability and effective flood management for the city's crumbling underbridge network.

BJP women wing holds mock Parl on 50 years of Emergency
1 2 Kanpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party's women's wing in the Kanpur region organised a grand mock Parliament event at the Kanpur University auditorium. The programme began with the lighting of a lamp by the chief guest, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma, regional president Prakash Pal, minister Rajni Tiwari, and legislator Pratibha Shukla. On this occasion, a special exhibition based on the Emergency was also inaugurated by Rekha Sharma and Prakash Pal. Addressing the inaugural session, they said that on June 25, 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi undermined the Constitution, crippling all major democratic institutions--the legislature, executive, judiciary, and the media. Thousands of opposition leaders were imprisoned under MISA and DIR, and censorship was forcibly imposed on the media. They emphasised the need for women to understand this history and question the moral grounds of those who cite the Constitution today. Prakash Pal questioned whether the Congress still justifies the Emergency or acknowledges it as a violation of the Constitution. " The entire assembly supported the proposal by voice vote. Throughout the sessions, there were several disruptions, which were managed with restraint and firmness by mayor Pramila Pandey, acting as the speaker in the first session, and legislator Neelima Katiyar in the second session.
