Brett Lee's humble response to Neeraj Chopra's Javelin shoutout: Nowhere close

India Today4 days ago
Former Australian pacer Brett Lee had a humble response after India's double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra suggested that Lee could have been a successful javelin thrower. The conversation came to light ahead of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 when Neeraj, fresh off his back-to-back wins at the Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike, was asked which cricketer he believed might have excelled in the sport of javelin.advertisementNeeraj named Lee, recognising the Australian's athleticism, power, and explosive energy from his cricketing days. However, in a lighthearted response, Lee took to his social media, sharing an article from India Today, and downplayed the compliment.I did throw the javelin back at my schooling days, but nowhere near what Neeraj does & continues to do.Very tough on the elbow. I have however admired what this fine athlete can do and wish him well https://t.co/fbbpKzd4bj— @BrettLee_58 (@BrettLee_58) June 30, 2025'I did throw the javelin back at my schooling days, but nowhere near what Neeraj does & continues to do so...Very tough on the elbow. I have, however, admired what this fine athlete can do and wish him well," Lee shared.
Neeraj also shared some fun thoughts in the interview, mentioning how he would love to try javelin throwing with India's premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. With a grin, Neeraj mused about the intriguing idea of seeing Bumrah's precision in a new light. The Olympic champion also cheekily admitted his wish to have the "superpowers" of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is known for his calm and mastery under pressure.advertisementWith the Javelin star's his eyes set firmly on the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, which begins on July 5, Neeraj continues to push the boundaries of his potential. Neeraj's performances in the Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike solidified his place as a global icon in athletics, but he remains grounded as he continues to strive for excellence, and yet another mark of him going beyond the 90 ,eter mark.- Ends

NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors could acquire $52.6 million Los Angeles Lakers superstar to form BIG 3 with Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler and improve title odds

LeBron James and Stephen Curry (Image via Getty) The Golden State Warriors could be finalizing a massive seven-team trade that ships out Kevin Durant —but this may only be the beginning. This move signals a bold new direction for the franchise. And now, rumors are swirling that their next target could be the biggest name in basketball: LeBron James . With Durant gone and the Warriors clearly in roster-flipping mode, all eyes are on whether they'll make an audacious push to pair Stephen Curry with the Lakers' four-time MVP. The financials mysteriously align, the trade frameworks exist, and the Warriors have the assets to pull it off. But is trading for a 39-year-old LeBron the right move for a team torn between contending now and planning for the future? The Seven-Team Trade: What It Means for the Golden State Warriors The Golden State Warriors ' involvement in the seven-team deal marks a significant shift in their roster strategy. Though the trade primarily sends Durant elsewhere, Golden State's front office appears to be laying the groundwork for another major move. The Golden State Warriors were part of a massive seven-team trade that saw them send Kevin Durant elsewhere in exchange for young prospects Alex Toohey and Jamai Mahshack. This trade marks a significant roster shake-up for the Warriors, signaling a shift toward developing future talent while parting ways with one of the league's most prolific scorers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo While the immediate return seems modest, the Warriors' flexibility and future assets could set the stage for a bigger acquisition. Lakers Star LeBron James Emerges as a Target LeBron James at the Playoffs against the Timberwolves (Image via Imagn). According to Golden State of Mind's Brady Klopfer, the Warriors could pivot toward a trade for Lakers forward LeBron James . The financials align surprisingly well, making this more than just a pipe dream. Klopfer noted: 'Any James trade would almost certainly be centered around a swap with Jimmy Butler III. In fact, LeBron and his son Bronny James have a combined salary that's less than $500,000 off of what Butler's salary is, so the finances work fairly seamlessly.' (H/t: Sporting News) Here's how a potential trade could break down: - Warriors receive: LeBron James and Bronny James - Lakers receive: Jimmy Butler and two first-round picks The inclusion of Bronny adds another layer, as teams have shown interest in drafting him to potentially lure LeBron. Why the Golden State Warriors Might Pull the Trigger Golden State has several reasons to consider this move: 1. Championship Window: With Stephen Curry still playing at an elite level, adding LeBron could extend their title contention. 2. Olympic Chemistry: James and Curry thrived together in the 2024 Olympics, where LeBron nearly averaged a triple-double and Curry lit up France with eight three-pointers in the gold medal game. 3. Veteran Leadership: Both players bring unmatched experience, with eight combined NBA championships. However, there are risks: - Butler has already proven to fit the Golden State Warriors' system. - LeBron's age (39) and long-term durability remain questions. LeBron's Future: What's Next? LeBron James recently opted into his $52.6 million player option, but his agent, Rich Paul, hinted that the Lakers are open to moves that benefit LeBron's career at this stage. This has fueled speculation about potential trades. Curry previously dismissed the idea of teaming up with LeBron James in the NBA, saying in 2022, 'I'm good right now.' But after failing to win a title since 2022, the Warriors' superstar may reconsider. Swapping Butler for LeBron would be a gamble, but the upside—a Curry-James duo in the West—could redefine the NBA landscape. As Klopfer pointed out, the financials work. Now, it's about whether Golden State believes the reward outweighs the risk. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here . Cricket-West Indies stage stunning fightback to trail Australia by 45 in Grenada

July 4 (Reuters) - West Indies were bowled out for 253 in their first innings of the second test in Grenada on Friday, trailing Australia by 45 runs at stumps after a dramatic second day that saw early promise turn to utter collapse before a thrilling lower-order fightback. Australia were 12 for two when play was called off, having lost Sam Konstas for a duck when he was bowled by Jayden Seales, and Usman Khawaja for two runs when Seales trapped him lbw. What began as a Friday of fluctuating fortunes for the hosts became a tale of extraordinary resilience, with the West Indies tail staging a spirited recovery to keep alive the test match and series. The morning session belonged to John Campbell until a moment of madness cost him his wicket on 40. The West Indies left-hander looked in fine touch, striking five fours and a six, before attempting an ambitious shot off Beau Webster that he could only sky for a simple catch to Mitchell Starc at mid-on. Kraigg Brathwaite's milestone 100th Test got off to the worst possible start when he fell for a duck in just the second over after being caught and bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Keacy Carty also departed cheaply for six, falling to a spectacular catch by Pat Cummins off his own bowling. The afternoon session began ominously for West Indies when Roston Chase became Hazlewood's second victim in the first over after lunch, falling lbw for 16 via a successful Australian review. Brandon King and Shai Hope then steadied the ship with a patient partnership that saw King reach 75 with some authoritative strokeplay. King's innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression, while Hope grew in confidence alongside him, striking boundaries with a flourish and looking increasingly comfortable. The session was not without its lighter moments either, as play was briefly interrupted when a dog wandered on to the field, trotting around casually before Cummins helped to shepherd it back over the boundary rope. Cummins, as he so often does, produced a moment of magic to break the crucial King-Hope partnership and swing the tide back in Australia's favour. The Australian captain cleaned up Hope on 21 with an absolute peach of a delivery, triggering a collapse that saw West Indies slump from a promising position to 174 for seven, after King and Justin Greaves (1) departed soon after. At that point, the hosts seemed headed for a substantial deficit chasing Australia's first innings total of 286, but the West Indies tail had other ideas. Alzarri Joseph was the chief architect of the fightback, smashing 27 from 49 balls, while Shamar Joseph provided equally valuable support with 29, before falling to Starc. The tail-end resistance proved nothing short of remarkable, with Anderson Phillip contributing a gritty 10 from 40 balls and Seales adding a valuable seven runs as the last-wicket partnership frustrated Australia's bowlers. The lower order added 79 crucial runs for the last three wickets to keep alive West Indian hopes. The final wicket of the hosts' innings fell when Travis Head took a low catch to dismiss Phillip, with the third umpire ruling the catch clean despite replays suggesting it was touch-and-go. Nathan Lyon was Australia's most successful bowler with three wickets for 75 runs from 19 overs. Hazlewood and Cummins claimed two wickets apiece but even they could not prevent their hosts from rallying. Australia's failure to deal with the West Indies tail will be a source of frustration for the tourists, but they can take comfort from the fact that their narrow lead could still prove crucial if the pitch deteriorates further. Australia lead the three test series 1-0 after winning the opener in Bridgetown. (Reporting by Simon Jennings in Toronto)

Neeraj eyes Diamond League as India gears up for NC Classic

Bengaluru, July 4 (UNI) Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra today said the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic could become a springboard for India to one day host a prestigious Diamond League event, signalling a bold new chapter for Indian athletics. Speaking on the eve of the international javelin meet at Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Chopra told reporters in a press conference, 'This could become a stepping stone for India to one day host a Diamond League meet. That is the dream — to keep raising the standard.' The World and Olympic gold medallist, who is also spearheading the event's organisation, called it both a proud and demanding responsibility. 'The toughest part was not just organising — but doing it while also preparing to compete. That's been the real challenge,' he said. Chopra admitted that juggling athlete duties with those of an event host required a mental shift. 'As an athlete, my focus has always been singular — to train and compete. But now I'm also thinking about food preferences for others, the comfort of visiting athletes, and every small detail… but I enjoy it.' He said the experience had transformed him: 'I've realised it's not just about my own performance anymore. It's about making sure everyone — from fellow athletes to support staff — feels welcome and looked after.' Chopra also expressed deep gratitude to the Karnataka Government, sponsors, JSW Sports, and all support staff involved. 'Everyone has worked extremely hard. It feels great that such an event is finally happening in India with top-level throwers.' Joining Chopra was 2016 Olympic gold medallist Thomas Rohler of Germany, who lauded India's rapid rise in javelin. 'It's a joy to visit a country where javelin is rising so rapidly,' Rohler said. 'When Neeraj reached out, I said yes right away. I know how hard it is to organise something like this. You need support from all sides — staff, sponsors, and fellow athletes.' Rohler, who is making a competitive comeback after injury, said participating in the NC Classic was both symbolic and personal. 'Neeraj is a good friend. I've been part of Indian javelin meets before, and I'm proud to support this initiative.' The event also features rising Indian talent Sachin Yadav, who described his inclusion as a dream come true. 'When I got a message from Neeraj bhai, I couldn't believe it at first. It's a huge honour to compete with the world's best — and that too on home soil.' The Neeraj Chopra Classic is India's first international event dedicated exclusively to javelin. It will feature a 12-man elite lineup, including World and Olympic medallists, and will be streamed live on FanCode. With athletes already arriving and final preparations complete, tomorrow's event promises not only a spectacle of world-class sport, but a statement of intent — that India is ready to compete, and now ready to host.
