Ocean Alley Announce Massive ‘Love Balloon' 2026 Australian Tour Dates
The six-piece will be kicking things off in Melbourne's Catani Gardens, before heading to Brisbane Showgrounds and then The Domain in Sydney, and will be joined at those three shows by UK rockers Nothing But Thieves, US sonic shapeshifters Rainbow Kitten Surprise and South Coast singer-songwriter Ruby Fields.
The tour will then head to Fremantle's Esplanade Park before wrapping up at Margaret River's 3 Oceans Winery, with Wollongong surf/garage duo Skeggs, Ruby Fields and Perth indie-rockers Smol Fish on support duties for those two dates.
To boot, all five shows will be running as licensed/all ages events.
Ocean Alley's forthcoming Love Balloon LP follows on from 2022's Low Altitude Living, and is set for release on Friday, September 19th via Community Music.
'The album explores the many layered dimensions of love,' said Lachlan Galbraith – the band's keyboardist – in a press statement. 'Not just the cinematic kind where you're falling head over heels, but the full spectrum: joy, hurt, discomfort and disappointment. Let's call it the river of love; whether it's with a partner, a friend, or family, you never know when it'll get deep, go shallow, or suddenly change course. It's such a force, you have to just surrender to its current.'
The band recorded Love Balloon with producer Nick DiDia, which marks their first time making an album without longtime collaborator Callum Howell. It was recorded at Brooklet Recording, the Byron Bay studio DiDia co-owns with former Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning.
The recently-released title track 'Love Balloon' is the third single to be lifted from the record, following last year's 'Tangerine' and 'Left Of The Dealer' back in February. Netflix just got a must-watch crime comedy from the Oscar-winning director of ‘Anora' — and it's 96% on Rotten Tomatoes
Sean Baker was the toast of Tinseltown earlier this year when his phenomenal comedy-drama 'Anora' scooped five Oscars, including the Academy's biggest prizes, Best Picture and Best Director. But the Mikey Madison star-making movie was far from Baker's first time creating a darkly funny flick that critics and viewers adored. 2015 saw the release of 'Tangerine,' a bitingly sharp crime comedy that sees a sex worker set out on a quest to even the score after learning that her boyfriend (who also happens to be her pimp) was unfaithful to her while she was locked-up in jail for a month. Filmed on three iPhone 5S phones — at a time when the idea of filming even an indie movie on a smartphone was considered pretty novel, let alone an S model — 'Tangerine' is a brilliant underdog story, and it's just arrived on Netflix as part of the service's July slate. If you enjoyed 'Anora,' then it makes for the perfect follow-up, and if you don't want to take my word for it, its critical reception should convince you to add it to your Netflix watchlist. Transgender sex worker Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) has just got out of jail after serving a 28-day sentence. Meeting up with her friend, and fellow sex worker, Alexandra (Mya Taylor), she is shocked to learn her boyfriend, Chester (James Ransone), has been cheating on her while she was incarcerated. Setting out into the hazy heat of Hollywood on a warm Christmas Eve evening, Sin-Dee vows to find Chester and get to the bottom of the situation. What follows is an odyssey through Los Angeles, exploring a side of the city that is ever present but often hidden. Much like 'Anora,' 'Tangerine" was a real critical darling. The 2015 movie holds a very impressive 96% score on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and this rating comes from almost 170 reviews, so it's not a small sample size. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In fact, 'Tangerine's' RT score is higher than 'Anora's,' though the latter currently holds a strong 93% rating, so we're talking about two great movies. Writing for the Observer, legendary U.K. film critic Mark Kermode said, 'Fired by zesty performances that crackle and burn with energy, 'Tangerine' is a bittersweet affair underpinned by a winning sense of empathy and affection.' Jake Wilson of the Sydney Morning Herald described it as 'raucously entertaining.' 'The chemistry of the leads and their authentic, crackling dialogue make it a pleasure to tag along for the day,' said Rebecca Keegan of the Los Angeles Times. Meanwhile, Matt Zoller Seitz labeled the Sean Baker movie 'assured and immensely likable.' David Lewis of the San Francisco Chronicle was similarly impressed. 'This is sublime filmmaking, a textbook example of how indies can tell groundbreaking stories in a way that Hollywood simply can't match,' wrote Lewis in an extremely positive review. Plenty of critics also praised 'Tangerine' for its (at the time) innovative style due to being shot on an iPhone 5S. This gives the movie a gritty and guerrilla look, and makes you, as a viewer, feel like you're alongside Sin-Dee and Alexandra for a wild ride through L.A. If you enjoyed Sean Baker's work in 'Anora,' then you don't want to skip 'Tangerine.' It's a little rougher around the edges, at least from a stylistic point of view, but it's no less bursting with snappy dialogue and thoughtful commentary on the world around. And it's far from the only worthwhile new addition to the streaming service this month. Check out our guide to everything new on Netflix in July 2025 for even more viewing recommendations, including must-watch movies and seriously bingeable TV shows. Watch "Tangerine" on Netflix now

Clint Eastwood accuses Austrian newspaper of fabricating interview
Clint Eastwood has denied making comments to an Austrian newspaper that quoted him as criticizing filmmakers for lacking originality. The viral interview was published just before the director's milestone birthday. 'A couple of items about me have recently shown up in the news,' the San Francisco-born actor said in a statement to Deadline published Monday, June 2. 'I thought I would set the record straight. I can confirm I've turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phony.' Kurier, a German language newspaper, falsely quoted Eastwood as slamming Hollywood for failing to generate original ideas in a story published Friday, May 30. The fabricated interview quoted the ' Dirty Harry ' star remarking that he believes one should 'do something new or stay at home' with regard to the modern state of the industry. While the Vienna-based publication has a circulation of about 100,000, these remarks were quickly picked up by American outlets. Kurier addressed the allegations on Tuesday, June 3, in German, explaining that it followed up with freelance writer Elisabeth Sereda, who wrote the article, following Eastwood's statement. 'Foreign journalists often conduct interviews with stars in groups, so everyone can then use the conversation as an interview for their own publication or even sell it to multiple media outlets,' explained journalist Martin Gebhart, who penned the statement. 'As she convincingly explained to the Kurier, Sereda spoke with Eastwood a total of 18 times at roundtables. Foreign journalists receive transcripts of these conversations, which are free to use.' The publication notes that Sereda wrote Friday's article 'based on these conversations,' and thus, 'no quote is fabricated, the interviews are documented, and the allegation of falsification can be refuted.' However, it admits that the piece was 'formatted as an interview, not a portrait' to uphold the illusion that it was a new interview, which wasn't the case. The outlet intends to sever ties from Sereda moving forward. Editor's note: The Chronicle referred to the interview Clint Eastwood ostensibly gave Kurier in an earlier story, which has since been corrected.

Clint Eastwood's ‘addictive' affairs exposed in new tell-all book
Clint Eastwood lived like a bachelor during his 31-year marriage to his first wife, Maggie Johnson — and she knew about it, according to a new tell-all book about the San Francisco-born filmmaker's life. Biographer Shawn Levy's 'Clint: The Man and the Movies,' which hit bookshelves Tuesday, July 1, delves into the details of the 95-year-old's romantic relationships over the years, drawing from archival interviews. 'By many accounts, including his own, he more or less comported himself as if he were a bachelor,' Levy wrote of Eastwood's marriage to Johnson, which spanned from 1953 to 1984, according to a report by People on the book. Levy then asserted that Johnson was aware of Eastwood's infidelity and claimed he would pick up women at his acting classes, on studio lots where he worked and even at the apartment complex where he lived with Johnson. 'One thing Mag had to learn about me was that I was going to do as I pleased,' the 'Dirty Harry' star told Photoplay in 1963, according to Levy's book. 'She had to accept that, because if she didn't, we wouldn't be married.' While he was married to Johnson, Eastwood is believed to have had affairs with Sondra Locke, who starred in his 1975 film 'The Outlaw Josey Wales,' and stuntwoman Roxanne Tunis, among others. Locke alleged that Eastwood told her 'there was no real relationship left' between him and Johnson in her 1997 memoir, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Very Ugly: A Hollywood Journey.' Levy noted that Eastwood admitted his affairs became 'addictive … like you have to have another cigarette' in Richard Schickel's 1997 book 'Clint Eastwood: A Biography.' Eastwood and Johnson eventually divorced years into his relations with Locke, who he was linked to until 1989. He went on to marry Bay Area news anchor and actor Dina Ruiz in 1996. They were together until 2014. Eastwood has a total of eight known children with six different women, including two with Johnson, one with Ruiz and one with Tunis. In Locke's memoir, she said she had two abortions and a tubal ligation because Eastwood said that he didn't want any more kids. The filmmaker later denied the claims. Eastwood most recently dated Christina Sandera, who was his partner for 10 years before she died of a heart attack last July.
