PM Modi, Amit Shah falsely claim more allocation of funds to Tamil Nadu, alleges DMK
The Dravidian party's official organ "Murasoli" in its editorial on the DMK's "Oraniyil Tamil Nadu" (Tamil Nadu as a single team) membership enrolment campaign said the party had always been reinventing itself and that is the reason for it being still young, though it has crossed the milestone of 75 years.
On July 1, Stalin launched the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu (OTN) campaign and on July 3, the door-to-door visit to reach out to the people commenced.
According to DMK President Stalin, the OTN encompasses election campaign, membership enrolment, the DMK government's achievements and the Centre's betrayal of Tamil Nadu as well and broadly, it is to bring together the people to protect the state's language and honour.
Assembly election is due in Tamil Nadu during April 2026.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's journey to the United States for medical treatment has once again brought into focus a long-standing practice among top political leaders — seeking advanced healthcare abroad. While the move sparked political criticism over the state of Kerala's public healthcare system, it also aligns with a historical pattern of chief ministers, cutting across party lines, turning to foreign countries for treatment. Rare exceptions included CPM's E K Nayanar and CPI's P K Vasudevan Nair, who are perhaps among the few state CMs who never travelled abroad for medical treatment. The practice dates back to the pre-1990 era when left leaders, particularly from the CPI and CPM, preferred the erstwhile Soviet Union for higher medical care. Two of Kerala's most iconic communist chief ministers — E M S Namboodiripad and C Achutha Menon — travelled to the USSR for treatment during their time in office. Back then, the country was seen as a trusted destination, both ideologically and diplomatically, especially by left leaders. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s brought a shift in preferences. The US emerged as the new destination of choice, not only due to its advanced medical infrastructure but also because of the presence of a large number of Keralite doctors in its hospitals. Among the first to make this transition was Congress leader and former Chief Minister K Karunakaran. After surviving a car accident in the 1990s, Karunakaran was flown to the US for specialised treatment. In 2000, CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan, who later became the CM in 2006, found himself at the centre of a political storm when he flew to London for medical care. His trip became a key talking point during the UDF's campaign for the 2001 assembly election. The Congress-led UDF trod a similar path. Former Chief Minister A K Antony travelled abroad for medical purposes after stepping down as Union defence minister. His successor, Oommen Chandy, too, underwent surgery in Davos, Switzerland, after slipping on snow during a visit to the World Economic Forum (WEF). Chandy sought further treatment in the US and Germany, though not during his tenure as chief minister.

Govt bats for Mango Board in Chittoor
CHITTOOR: With mango farmers reeling under falling prices as well as truncated purchases by processing units, State Principal Secretary for Food Processing Chiranjeevi Chaudhary has urged mango processing units to procure mangoes from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to safeguard the interests of cultivators. He was addressing a review with representatives of mango pulp industries in the erstwhile Chittoor district on Friday. During the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that both the Central and State governments were taking special measures to support mango growers. He highlighted that the state government had submitted proposals to the Centre to establish a Mango Board in Chittoor and make a provision for it in the upcoming budget. Chiranjeevi said that the government was considering release of Rs.8 crore in dues related to pulp processing units. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had already written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting the removal of GST on processed mango products -- a move that is expected to benefit both farmers and processing units. Underlining the importance of collaborative efforts, the Principal Secretary called on mango processing units to actively participate in resolving the agrarian crisis and expand their marketing strategies. He encouraged them to promote mango-based products at major public functions and events to boost consumption. District Collector Sumit Kumar, who also attended the meeting, said that 1.15 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes has been procured till date this season, with an estimated 1.70 lakh metric tonnes yet to arrive. Any new proposals, including supplying mango juice in the midday meal scheme, would be carefully studied before implementation, he added. Industry representatives urged the officials to help reduce GST on mango pulp from the current 12 per cent to 5 per cent and to explore the inclusion of mango juice in schemes such as the midday meal program and offerings at temples. Joint Collector G Vidyadhari, AP Food Processing Society MD Sekhar Babu, DD Horticulture Madhusudhan Reddy, and representatives from prominent mango pulp companies were among those present at the meeting.

Twenty years on, Thackeray cousins bury the hatchet
MUMBAI: SHIV Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said he and his cousin, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, have joined forces in the interest of 'Marathi pride' while sharing a political stage with him after nearly 20 years. Uddhav sounded bullish when he said he and Raj will capture power in the Mumbai civic body elections and Maharashtra together. 'We have come together to stay together,' he asserted. At the public rally titled 'Awaj Marathicha' to celebrate the rollback of two government resolutions on introducing Hindi as a third language from Class 1 in state schools, Uddhav said, 'We won't let the government impose Hindi on us.' MNS leader Amit Thackeray, Raj's son, was seen sharing a hug with Uddhav's son Aaditya on the stage. Uddhav alleged that the people who are in power in Maharashtra, are 'slaves of two Gujaratis. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde are in power, not to serve the interest of Maharashtra and Marathi manoos, but of their bosses in Delhi. We will never tolerate Hindi in Maharashtra. We will fight to safeguard our culture and language.' On the rollback of the three-language formula in Maharashtra, both brothers said the BJP-led government had no other option. 'The government rolled back the decision on the three-language formula due to the strong unity shown by Marathi people. This decision was a precursor to the plan of separating Mumbai from Maharashtra,' the MNS chief said, with Uddhav seated next. Raj, in a lighter vein, credited Fadnavis with bringing him and Uddhav together, a feat even Balasaheb Thackeray could not accomplish. 'Your power is in the legislature, ours on the streets,' Raj said to thunderous applause.
