Moharram observed on solemn note in Banaganapalle
The ceremonies, starting June 27, ended with a grand procession reflecting deep mourning and devotion. The Alam (Peer) procession began at Nawab's fort after midday prayers, passing through key areas like post office, Asthanam, circle office, and old bus stand, concluding at Jurre Gattu with ritualistic offerings.
Shia community members participated, reciting elegies and performing matam (self-flagellation) with blades to express grief.
The Nawab family, including Nawab Mir Fazal Ali Khan and his son Mir Ghulam Ali Khan, joined the event, enhancing its cultural significance.
The rites concluded with the ceremonial immersion of the Alams of Hasan, Hussain, and Bibi Fatima at Jurre Gattu, with sacred items preserved in a special box.
Cinema halls in Banaganapalle remained closed as a mark of respect.
The coalition government supported the observances with a Rs 10 lakh allocation. Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy inaugurated the ceremonial Alam placement at Nawab's Asthana, highlighting government involvement in this interfaith event, second only to Hyderabad in grandeur.
Large crowds from the town and nearby areas attended, showcasing communal harmony.
For safety, medical camps were set up at two locations along the procession route, with ambulances available.
DSP Srinivasulu, along with Urban and Rural CIs Praveen Kumar, Manjunath Reddy, and CI Prabhakar Reddy from Nandyal, ensured tight security, allowing the event to proceed peacefully.

Chief minister Sukhu inspects Shimla 4-lane project, flags hill-cutting risks
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inspected vulnerable sections of the under-construction 27-km Shoghi-Dhalli four-lane highway near Shimla, following rising public concern over the environmental and safety impacts of ongoing hill-cutting work. Sukhu visited Bhattakufar, Sanjauli, Dhalli, Lindidhar, and nearby areas, where local residents voiced fears about property damage and life-threatening risks caused by aggressive excavation work undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Many blamed the hill-cutting for increasing landslide vulnerability in the region. Acknowledging the grievances, Sukhu said he would take up the matter directly with Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari. He announced that the state govt would provide families living in unsafe structures with a monthly rental assistance of Rs 10,000 to help them find alternative accommodation. A separate relief package will also be extended to those who have already suffered damage due to the ongoing construction, he said. The CM instructed all departments concerned to prioritise public safety and implement immediate remedial measures in the affected zones. Sukhu suggested that future infrastructure projects in hill regions be awarded to local contractors who are better acquainted with the state's fragile terrain. He also urged the NHAI to consider modern construction methods, including tunnel-based routes, to minimise ecological disruption and reduce the risk of disasters. The Shoghi-Dhalli project is part of a larger push to improve transport links in HP, but it has faced increasing criticism for its environmental toll. Sukhu's intervention signals the state govt's growing focus on balancing infrastructure development with community safety and ecological sustainability.

All India Radio station to begin soon in Ujjain: MP CM Mohan Yadav
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Tuesday that the state's Ujjain district will be getting its very own All India Radio (Akashvani), after he called on Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan in Delhi. CM Yadav said that the in-principle approval has been granted for setting up an Akashvani station, and requested for early commencement of the Akashvani centre in view of the upcoming Simhastha 2028, read an official statement from the Chief Minister's office. 'Union Minister Murugan assured support and said the necessary procedures would be initiated. Until the Ujjain studio is constructed, arrangements will be made for broadcast through the Indore Akashvani Centre,' the statement added. After meeting with various union ministers in the national capital, CM Yadav informed that the foundation of a state-of-the-art rail coach manufacturing plant by BEML Limited, Bengaluru (a Government of India undertaking) will soon be laid in Raisen district. According to the statement, the project involves an investment of around Rs 1,800 crore, with participation from the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Ministry of Railways, and the Ministry of Defence. CM Yadav said he has invited Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to lay the foundation stone and held detailed discussions on the importance of the plant. CM Yadav also shared that the Madhya Pradesh government is undertaking major initiatives in renewable energy, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. In his meeting with Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, CM Yadav discussed ongoing projects and expressed optimism about future progress. He highlighted that the upcoming solar parks with a total capacity of 4,200 MW will mark a significant milestone in the state's renewable energy journey.
