Jessica Motaung: Nasreddine Nabi is here, but Kaizer Chiefs will make the hard decisions to get back to the top

JESSICA Motaung says Kaizer Chiefs are not a mid-table team, and the club have been having hard conversations with regards to finding ways to moving up to the top, where they belong.
Having finished out of the top eight in the past two seasons and only ending what has been a decade-long trophy drought by winning the past campaign's Nedbank Cup, the Amakhosi have lost their shine as the country's Glamour Boys.
But Motaung, the club's marketing director and daughter of chairman Kaizer, says they are intent on changing all that in the upcoming campaign.
'Ninth and 10th (positions) is not great for us, and part of the hard conversations we've had is that we cannot find ourselves there (again),' Motaung told media at the club's Taung Village in Naturena, Johannesburg on Thursday during the launch of this year's Toyota Cup.
Chiefs announced that they will be facing Ghana's Asante Kotoko at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium on July 26 in a match that pits 'Africa's fallen giants' against each other.
Like Chiefs, Kotoko have recently fallen on hard times and only finished third in the Ghanaian league.
They too were, however, crowned Ghana's FA Cup champions, and will be going into the CAF Confederation Cup along with the Amakhosi.
The two teams are not bothered by the possibility of meeting in the secondary continental inter-club competition, and are looking forward to using their clash as a way to kick-starting the upcoming campaign.

It would appear that part of the conversations Motaung spoke of are whether the club continue their relationship with coach Nasreddine Nabi, who was reported to be on his way out prior to leading Chiefs to that Nedbank Cup victory over defending champions Orlando Pirates.
According to Motaung, though, Nabi is still their coach, and will be travelling with the club to their pre-season camp out in The Netherlands, where they will play a few matches.
'The coach is here and doing his work, so let's allow the process to unfold internally,' she responded to a question about the Tunisian technician and his relationship with Chiefs.
'There are reviews being done, and there are discussions right now about where we are going as a team.
'The vision is to ascend and take our rightful place in South African and African football, and the conversations are there about how to get there – and we will make the hard decisions to make sure we get there.'
One of those hard decisions could well be to sever ties with Nabi, who is said to not be enjoying much support at the club.
The other is for Chiefs to beef up their squad with quality players, and Motaung pleaded with the club's supporters to bear with them and await their official announcement on that score.
'First and foremost, we have to be fair. There are always challenges for players, and I am grateful for the players who dedicated themselves to Chiefs, from the past and present,' she said.
'Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. The technical team is working hard, and they have the support of the chairman.
'Every team goes through cycles and challenges.
'We are fortunate to have had years and years of success, and winning the Nedbank Cup has given us an opportunity to exhale.
'We are asking our supporters to be patient, and allow us to have our I's dotted and our T's crossed.

Orlando Pirates player told to thank ancestors and God
They call him the Master Chef. Orlando Pirates will compete in next season's Betway Premiership with Sipho Mbule as one of the new options in central midfield. The 27-year-old from Bethlehem, Free State, was available on a free transfer after Mamelodi Sundowns opted against a contract renewal on his expired deal. According to reports, Mbule lost his place at Sundowns after he had reported for training under the influence of alcohol. His agent, Mike Makaab, soon offered Mbule to Kaizer Chiefs, but Amakhosi seemingly took too long to make a decision. Kaizer Chiefs news: Amakhosi money and another star from Europe Sipho Mbule at Sekhukhune United. Image: SuperSport TV While many were still anticipating Amakhosi's decision, the Buccaneers astounded the nation via X, Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday: 'Orlando Pirates is pleased to welcome Sipho Mbule to the Club,' the short statement ended. Orlando Pirates news: Sipho Mbule and a special meeting According to Khanye, whose playing career was cut short due to the same ill-discipline with alcohol, Mbule should realise he is a lucky man. Khanye feels that the new Orlando Pirates midfielder, given the due commitment and discipline, has the talent to make the Bafana Bafana squad for Afcon 2025. 'Let me be honest, I'm surprised, and he is very lucky,' said Khanye on iDiski TV . 'But he must know one thing, this is a last chance he has now because we have seen players previously at the club who have had the same problems, and they got rid of them. 'Even though fans loved them, the club got rid of them and their careers ended. If you leave Orlando Pirates under such a cloud, it's over. 'Mbule is so lucky, and he must thank his ancestors, God and age for being on his side. He really needs to understand that he is done if anything happens with him at Orlando Pirates. 'I compliment his God-given talent. The boy is one of the best, one of the most talented players, and I cannot wait to see him play with [Patrick] Maswanganyi, Relebohile Mofokeng, [Mohau] Nkota and [Tshegofatso] Mabasa. 'It's his last chance and if he trains properly, get game time he may even go to the AFCON if he gets his act together,' Khanye concluded. 'Chiefs pay a lot of money for players, sir'
Kaizer Chiefs' marketing director, Jessica Motaung, has dismissed claims that the club is unwilling to invest in players. In recent years, Amakhosi has often refrained from making significant expenditures and has, at times, signed free agents. The club has been linked to players like Percy Tau and Sipho Mbule, who have both previously left their respective clubs. During the launch of the Toyota Cup, Motaung emphasised that the club is prepared to spend money on acquiring players. 'Chiefs pay a lot of money, sir. So, I'm actually quite surprised, so I think it is absolute nonsense. If I look at our budgets and I look at the investments we are making into players and the transfer space,' she said. Motaung hinted that some clubs were unfair in terms of pricing their players, making it difficult for Chiefs and other big teams. 'I also think the South African market needs to evaluate itself. Are the negotiations fair? Are the prices people are asking for players fair? We have to look at our industry but we have certainly made sure and you can see from our investments in the last season. Not only in the players but in the technical team,' she said. Amakhosi are yet to announce any signings; however, they have already parted ways with five players. Next month, the team will travel to the Netherlands, where they will have their pre-season camp. Motaung confirmed that Chiefs will announce new players in the coming weeks. Kaizer Chiefs news: Amakhosi money and another star from Europe

Orlando Pirates news: Biokineticist and Pogiso Makhoye Ask most Kaizer Chiefs fans if they believe Amakhosi avoid spending on player transfers, and they will likely concur. Is this true of the Betway Premiership giants? The club's Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, has dismissed that as a false perception. According to Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs spend plenty of money but may be subject to unfair market prices for players. 'Chiefs pay a lot of money, sir,' Motaung said. 'So, I'm actually quite surprised so I think it is absolute nonsense. If I look at our budgets and I look and the investments we are making into players and the transfer space…Full story here.
