Ranchi: State health minister Irfan Ansari on Monday asked district health officials to refrain from referring minor health cases to Ranchi's Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims). "Stop referring patients with minor ailments to Rims. Providing better treatment to the patient is the first responsibility at district hospitals," Ansari said. The move, officials said, is aimed at reducing patient load in the state's largest govt run medical college and hospital in the state capital. During the review, Ansari made it clear that excuses like lack of doctors, medicines, or ambulances will no longer be acceptable. He directed all civil surgeons to ensure that patients receive timely and quality healthcare within district facilities. Stressing accountability, he issued a stern warning regarding ambulance services. "If death occurs due to negligence of ambulance, the civil surgeon will be held responsible," he said. Several announcements were made in the meeting to modernise and strengthen district-level healthcare. From August 15, free Wi-Fi will be operational in sadar hospitals, while specialist OPD services involving doctors from major cities like Ranchi, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi will also be introduced. Furthermore, a digital push was announced under the Chief Minister's Digital Health Mission, with deadlines to connect high-speed internet lease lines and Wi-Fi across healthcare facilities by September 15 for sub-divisional hospitals, October 15 for Sadar and community health centres and November 15 for primary health centres. Other directives included empanelling all govt hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and setting a revenue target of Rs 6 crore annually for each district hospital.

Dhoni's Harmu house hosts new diagnostic centre
Ranchi: The residence of former Team India skipper MS Dhoni in Ranchi's Harmu area will now host a high-end diagnostic centre. On Monday, Neuberg Pulse Diagnostics announced its first integrated centre, bringing the city's first upgraded PET-CT scanner. It has entered into a joint venture with Kolkata-based Pulse Diagnostics to strengthen its footprint across the eastern region, including West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the North Eastern states. HC lens on suspension of liver transplant surgeries at SCB
Cuttack: Orissa high court has taken suo motu cognisance of a newspaper report highlighting the suspension of liver transplant surgeries at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, following the expiry of a crucial agreement between the state govt and a Hyderabad-based private institute. A division bench comprising Justice S K Sahoo and Justice V Narasingh, in an order issued on July 18, noted the report published in a vernacular daily and directed SCB authorities to explain the current status of the liver transplant unit. Superintendent of SCB, Dr Goutam Satapathy, who appeared via a video link during the hearing, informed the court that no patient requiring a liver transplant had been denied treatment due to the expiry of the MoU with the private institute, which ended on April 1 this year. He added that talks are underway to finalise a new MoU with another private healthcare establishment in Chennai. Taking note of the urgency, the court has posted the matter for further hearing on July 31. The state govt had signed the MoU with the Hyderabad-based private institute in 2022 to operationalise an adult liver transplant unit at SCB.
