Kolkata man dies after falling ill on Puri-Hwh Vande Bharat
The deceased, Himadri Bhowmik, a native of Dhakuria in south Kolkata, was travelling to Bhubaneswar on coach number C2 along with a 50-year-old co-passenger, Debarati Majumdar. Bhowmik, who owned an academic consultancy firm, and his colleague Majumdar were scheduled to meet a person regarding their business at Bomikhal here. The firm helps in admission of students in different educational institutes.
"After the train left Cuttack, my colleague went to use the washroom.
After returning, he started feeling uneasy and became unconscious. We tried to get an oxygen cylinder for him but failed to arrange one. Train staff and RPF personnel reached the coach after some time. Some people conducted CPR on Bhowmik," Majumdar said.
The train arrived in Bhubaneswar at 1.40 pm. "We booked a private ambulance to take my colleague to the hospital. It came on the platform no. 6 side. Unfortunately, doctors declared him brought dead at the private hospital.
He used to take medicines to control his blood pressure," she added.
After he was declared dead at 2.55 pm, the body was taken to the hospital's mortuary. "The hospital has already informed the police about the death. The body will be sent for post-mortem to Capital Hospital in the presence of family members," a source said. Family members were on the way to Bhubaneswar.
East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said prompt action was taken for providing medical assistance to the passenger. "The patient, along with the co-passenger, was sent to a hospital promptly. RPF staff at Bhubaneswar escorted them to the hospital," a source said.

'Bilateral treaties will allow India for case-by-case negotiation, ensuring that the terms reflect the specific economic complementarities between itself and its partner countries,' she said. Majumdar also emphasised that BITs should not be treated as mere legal tools but as 'strategic economic enablers' to unlock greater value from India's competitive and comparative advantages. According to the Economic Survey 2024–25, India must 'pull out all the stops' to improve tax certainty and regulatory stability if it is to boost FDI inflows. Foreign direct investment into India crossed the $1 trillion mark in the April 2000–March 2025 period, reinforcing its image as a safe and attractive global investment destination. In FY25 alone, FDI stood at $81 billion. Mauritius accounted for 25% of the inflows, followed by Singapore (24%), the US (10%), the Netherlands (7%), Japan (6%), the UK (5%), and the UAE (3%). Germany, Cyprus, and the Cayman Islands accounted for 2% each. The sectors drawing the most FDI included services, computer software and hardware, telecom, trading, construction development, automobiles, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. 3 wagons of good train derail in Cuttack
Bhubaneswar: Three empty wagons of a goods train derailed at the Cuttack station yard on Monday morning, railway officials said. The derailment, which took place at 8:43 am, was confined to the loop line and did not impact regular train operations on the main routes. East Coast Railway (ECoR) officials said the derailment caused no injuries or damage to infrastructure. The main line connecting Bhadrak-Cuttack-Visakhapatnam remained fully operational, ensuring uninterrupted passenger and freight services. "Train movements towards Paradip port have not been affected by the incident," said an ECoR spokesperson. "We immediately initiated restoration measures to clear the affected route. " Authorities swiftly mobilised their emergency response team, dispatching a relief train equipped with necessary machinery, materials and technical personnel to the site. The route was restored by afternoon. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. On May 18, four bogies of a goods train derailed near Dam Basti at Bimlagarh railway station in Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district, causing disruptions to train services. On March 30, a youth died and over 30 were injured after 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Manguli-Choudwar passenger halt in Cuttack.

With a growing number of pet disappearances across the city, owners are offering hefty rewards, ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000, to bring home missing dogs, cats and birds that they share deep bonds with. Most missing incidents have occurred at boarding facilities and clinics from where frightened pets have fled due to anxiety. Despite lodging complaints with local police and RPF, the lack of CCTV cameras at station has hindered our efforts in locating it. I'm offering a reward of Rs 10,000 for anyone who locates my pet. I have shared his details on social media platforms," Vinod said. As such cases rises, Hyderabad's pet owners are pulling out all stops to reunite with their companions.
