Viewers have unsettling Final Destination experience after life imitates art
Remember the Final Destination scene where a cinema ceiling fell? No? That's because it happened in real life when theatre attendees were watching the sixth film on the big screen.
Final Destination: Bloodlines was released earlier this month, following Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) as she uncovers a deadly family secret that threatens all of their lives.
It marked the final film appearance of the late genre icon Tony Todd, who had played the mysterious William Bludworth throughout the franchise.
But cinemagoers in Argentina got an impromptu 4DX experience when, during a screening of the film, the theatre's ceiling began collapsing.
The incident occurred around 9pm on May 19 at Cinema Ocho in La Plata, Buenos Aires, reports InfoBae.
Attendee Fiamma Villaverde told the publication that she went to see the film as part of her 29th birthday celebrations, but did not expect to become immersed in it quite so much.
'There was a really loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so absorbed, but then a huge piece fell on me,' she recalled.
Around 40 attendees found their screening disrupted as the ceiling in screen 4 began to fall down, with Fiamma reportedly being struck by debris, explaining, 'It didn't hit their head because they were leaning slightly over the armrest.'
She was allegedly struck in the shoulder, back, knee, and ankle, and sustained bruising from the accident.
Video shared on social media shows a large hole in the ceiling of the cinema, with debris on the floor and in the aisles.
'I asked for my ticket money back,' Fiamma, who attended the film with their 11-year-old daughter, continued.
She claimed: 'While I was waiting, the theatre manager came to talk to me. He asked, 'How do you want to fix this?' I got angry: 'How do I want to fix this? I'm going to file a complaint. Just imagine if they hit my daughter in the head! They're irresponsible!''
The film has proved a hit for the franchise, grossing a whopping $187.1 million (£138 million) worldwide so far, making it the highest-grossing installment of the franchise. More Trending
Speaking to Metro ahead of the release, directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky shed light on how they plotted those 'staggeringly grisly', intricate death scenes, sparked from random freak occurrences.
'From the very beginning, we call it, 'What can we ruin for people?' so that after you see this movie, for the rest of your life, you'll never be able to look at a cup filled with ice in the same way, or a garbage disposal truck, or hear the song Shout without thinking of this movie,' Adam teased.
'That was a big conversation. I think that's the legacy of Final Destination: that it takes potential anxieties and brings them to life in a way that ruins them for people forever.
'We always wanted to create a movie that you had to watch through your fingers, but while you were also smiling. Getting that tone balance right was very tricky.'

Mack's heartbreak in Emmerdale as he hides his feelings
Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) recently gave his wife Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) an ultimatum in Emmerdale. If she didn't give up her plan to be a surrogate for granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill)'s baby, their marriage was over. And in coming episodes, as the plan moves ahead, their relationship is in the balance. When Sarah had to have life-saving surgery that included having a hysterectomy, she knew that her dream of being a mother had been shattered. Unable to cope with his granddaughter's sadness at a time when he was also grieving the death of his son Nate (Jurell Carter), it was Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) who first floated the idea of surrogacy as a way to help Sarah become a mum. It was soon clear that, because of Sarah's life-limiting condition of Fanconi anaemia, surrogacy agencies wouldn't consider helping her. Cain's one attempt at contacting a surrogate informally didn't work out either. So Charity came up with the idea of being the surrogate herself. 'Once she's set a decision in place she doesn't really back out of stuff,' Emma Atkins told us. 'She commits. She goes full pelt without thinking of any of the consequences.' So Charity went ahead and had the tests to see if she was suitable, reasoning that she could talk to her husband Mackenzie about it if she proved to be a suitable candidate. Unfortunately he got wind of the scheme before that could happen, courtesy of Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) who was concerned that his grandson Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) was making a mistake by getting involved as the sperm donor part of the scheme. Understandably, Mack was fuming. It wasn't that long ago that he and Charity lost a baby they were expecting when she had an ectopic pregnancy. In the wake of this he expressed a hope that they would try again, but Charity shut that down. Now Mack has been left trying – and failing – to understand why Charity would go through a pregnancy for Sarah, but not to have their child. Emma Atkins told us that Charity has some reservations, but prioritises Sarah: 'I think Charity just decides the best thing to do is back Sarah all the way. So you sort of see a lot of light and shade. One minute she's very for it, and the next minute, she's struggling with the obvious, with her health complications and her own as well being the age that she is so there's all of that.' My girlfriend says she's in Witness Protection due to a bombshell past
When does a traumatic past stop sounding tragic and start to sound made up? That's what this week's reader is trying to figure out. His girlfriend has told him stories of abuse, cancer, living under a fake name, and even claimed to be homeless at one point. It seems like every week there's a new drama. His friends are urging him to face the fact that her tales might not be true. But he's clinging onto the hope that she's an honest person. Read the advice below, but before you go, make sure to read last week's dilemma, where a reader found out her husband is cheating – despite her doing everything for him. For the last 16 months I've been 'seeing' a gorgeous girl I'm really keen on, who lives the other end of the country. We met when she was in my town on business and immediately hit it off. We message and facetime frequently, but our relationship is mostly on-line. This has been complicated by the fact that she has regular cancer treatment, so is often not available to talk to me or see me, as her treatment is tiring and debilitating. Bit by bit she has told me her backstory, which is horrific – if it's true. She told me she was abused by a paedophile ring as a child, with the full cooperation of her mother. She has since testified against the perpetrators and as a result of that, she's in the Witness Protection Programme, which means she can only tell me her 'new' name, not her real birth name. She also told me she has a young son but he's had to go into care, because she ended up living in her car when a previous boyfriend kicked her out (he was cheating) and that her son has been abused in the care home. Then there's the story about her living in her car, while she supposedly has cancer. There is so much support for cancer sufferers in this country, I find this tale impossible to believe. Anyway, where were her UKPPS support workers in her hour of need? Fantasists like this are rare and you've been unlucky, but you've been gullible too. Maybe you are so desperate for commitment that you've slightly lost sight of common sense. You say she hasn't asked you for money, but she might eventually; on the other hand, it may just be about power, and the 'fun' of manipulating your emotions. More Trending My advice is to end things with her and look for a real relationship with someone who lives closer. Strictly star Anton Du Beke opens up on wife's 'cruel' diagnosis
Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke has shed light on his wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis. The ballroom dancer and Strictly judge, 59, has been with the dancing reality competition right from the very beginning, starting as part of the pro lineup. After the departure of Bruno Tonioli in 2022, Anton stepped up to become a replacement judge, joining Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Shirley Ballas. The condition is described as the process 'where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body'. Anton said: 'I knew I wanted to be with her. I saw her with her nephews. She's so kind and so caring; I just couldn't understand the universe.' 'Whoever is upstairs, if anyone's upstairs, looking down and going, 'You are the most perfect person to have children, but I'm not going to let you have any children because I'm going to give you this'. 'And I'm going to say, 'You're going to have this endometriosis, and you're going to suffer with this all of your life, chronically, and I'm not going to let you have any children'. 'I thought that was peculiar, cruel, and inexplicable and unforgivable. And if ever I go up to somewhere and meet this person, I would say, 'I think you're not OK with decisions like this; this doesn't make any sense to me'.' Anton went on to discuss how health services need to educate people more about endometriosis and highlighted how there should be increased government funding for women's health services. 'We went through the process of IVF, well, for crying out loud. You girls are extraordinary,' he said. 'As much as I want to get involved, all I can do is hold your hand. It makes me emotional every time I talk about it. The injections, the stress. I have anxiety and stress, but it's not my body. 'She has these injections and the bruises in the bum, in the thigh, in the stomach. And you're trying to help, but what can you do? Whatever you want, tell me and I'll do it, but that's all you have, and it's horrendous as a man to watch it.
