Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid: Kounde strikes late in extra time to take the spoils in El Clasico cup final
After regular time ended with two goals for either club, a laboured period of extra-time looked certain to deliver a penalty shootout, before Jules Kounde rifled a low shot home from 25 yards to put Barcelona back in front with no time for Los Blancos to react.
In a season where Barcelona had come out on top in both prior Clásicos, the onus was on Real to preserve their honour. The Derby atmosphere was tangible and the vitriol plentiful as the two sides played out a Clasico for the ages and Barcelona made it a hat-trick of wins over their most hated rivals this season.
Pedri opened the scoring in the first half with a wonderful strike, perfectly balancing power and placement as he drilled his shot well beyond Courtois.
That advantage would last through to half-time, at which stage Real woke up. Ancelotti introduced the big guns, adding Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric, totally reversing the match's momentum as he did so.
Mbappe's ankle injury was clearly long forgotten as he caused Barcelona's back-line all sorts of problems with his pace and power. He scored a stunning free-kick with 20 minutes remaining, and could have added a second moments later if not for Pau Cubarsi's late block.
Just a few minutes later, though, it all looked to be over as Aurelien Tchouameni headed home from Luka Modric's corner. Barcelona were left bewildered, going from a place of total control to a goal behind in just seven minutes, and white ribbons were all but hung on the trophy.
Not if Lamine Yamal had anything to say about it. He looped a perfect pass over the top to put Ferran Torres through on goal - Courtois looked to claim it but was caught in no man's land, and the Spaniard finished into an empty net to force extra time.
There would be more drama before the final whistle, though. A Barcelona penalty would be overturned after a lengthy VAR check, with the aggrieved Raphinha eventually booked for simulation, and Vinicius would leave the field of play injured.
It was a level playing field heading into extra time, then. The first quarter of an hour came and went with little notable action. It seemed as though the same would be true in the second half, before Kounde's effort put Barca ahead at a crucial juncture.
There were ugly scenes after the 120th minute as an incensed Rudiger launched ice packs at referee Ricardo de Burgos, earning a red card for his troubles, but that would not affect the result.
Tonight, it will be the famous Blaugrana celebrating into the small hours. They will not forget this match in a hurry.

Real Madrid ready to admit DEFEAT over Ibrahima Konate
Bubbling away in the background of a landmark Liverpool summer transfer window has been the saga of . The Reds under sporting director have been busy adding quality all over the pitch - with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili all arriving. LFC x New Era Shop Now LFC Signed Merch Shop Now LFC x Titleist Shop Now But centre-back has been suggested as an area potentially in need of attention considering the contract situation revolving around Konate. The 26-year-old has got less than 12 months left on his current deal - expiring in June 2026. So far there has been no breakthrough over a new deal - with it earlier reported that the France defender would be seeking £200k per week to renew. Konate a priority Madrid target However those reports were superseded by ones stating that Konate had made up his mind and would DECLINE a renewal from the Reds. Liverpool, it was mooted, would be powerless to prevent Konate from running down his deal and joining Real Madrid for free in 2026. Only things are not working out that way. Madrid have got reason to believe that adding Konate as a new free transfer is not going to be as easy as they first thought. First came the reports from France declaring that Liverpool had made a new contract offer to Konate. Madrid plot Konate Plan B And while that offer has not been answered as yet, it was enough to scare the Madrid media into reporting that adding Konate was now tougher than ever. That's been followed up with a report in Defensa Central which states that Xabi Alonso is now activating Plan B as Konate slips from their grasp. 'Xabi Alonso is seriously considering the possibility of counting on Joan Martínez,' the report reads, adding that the Madrid academy graduate is now due a promotion. © IMAGO Madrid rolling back from Konate claims The reason for the 17-year-old being drafted into the first-team picture is increasing uncertainty over the fate of Konate. Madrid media are now rowing back from their previous claims that the Konate deal was all but done. That should give us an indication of how they feel Liverpool contract talks are going to go. Konate should take a look around at what Liverpool have added this summer and provided the club can match his demands he needs to commit his future long-term to the reigning Premier League title holders.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso tells midfielder he will not be leaving club
Real Madrid fans are used to lengthy transfer sagas on one level, with Kylian Mbappe perhaps the longest in recent memory. However the consistence of Dani Ceballos being linked with a move to Real Betis each summer is unfailing at this point. The 28-year-old Seville native signed a new deal with Los Blancos two years ago, keeping him at the club until 2027. Yet in each of the last three summers, Ceballos has been heavily linked with a move back to his first club, Real Madrid. Los Verdiblancos have also flirted with the idea, but made it public that they would not be paying a large transfer fee for Ceballos. Xabi Alonso removes doubt from Ceballos' mind It was reported this week that Ceballos, like teammate Eduardo Camavinga, who has also been lacking game time of late, was not for sale. Cadena SER say that manager Xabi Alonso has gone one further, and told Ceballos that he is going nowhere this summer. Ceballos himself had flirted with the idea, saying publicly that he was 'open to anything', and hinting on social media that he had tried to make the move happen. Yet it appears as if Alonso feels he needs him at any rate. EFE/EPA/PETER POWELL Ceballos' role under Alonso Part of Ceballos' doubts about staying at the club were based on the fact that he received little game time during the Club World Cup, featuring for less than 90 minutes across their six matches. Ceballos is competing with Arda Guler, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, Camavinga and Jude Bellingham next season. Power play from Alonso? It has been widely reported that Alonso feels he needs another midfielder this summer, but the club are reluctant to break the bank to bring him one. Not using Ceballos in the USA may have been his way of showing the board that perhaps he is not convinced by Ceballos, and a fresh recruit was necessary.

Spain star Aitana Bonmati hospitalised with meningitis ahead of Euro 2025
Midfielder Aitana Bonmati, Ballon d'Or winner for the last two years, has been hospitalised with viral meningitis less than a week before Spain begin their Women's Euro 2025 campaign. The 27-year-old missed the 3-1 win over Japan in a friendly as Spain continued building up to their first Group B match against Portugal on 3 July. Bonmati shared a picture of herself watching the match from a hospital bed in an Instagram story. "The doctors say that it is controlled. Talking about meningitis can be scary but it is controlled," coach Montse Tome told reporters after the win in Leganes. "Aitana will be admitted and there are no deadlines yet to know for how long [she will be absent].' Barcelona's Bonmati, who also won the Fifa Women's Player of the Year award for 2023 and 2024, has scored 30 goals for Spain in 78 appearances, playing a key role as they won the Women's World Cup in 2023 and the Women's Nations League last year. "Aitana, for us, is a very important player. We'll wait for her as long as we can," Tome added. Spain, who also have Belgium and Italy in their group, have never made it to the final of the continental championship, reaching the semi-finals only once in 1997. Reuters
