Korea's Enhans tapped by Palantir for global AI fellowship

Korea Herald26-05-2025
Enhans, a South Korean startup specializing in vertical commerce AI agents, has been selected for the Startup Fellowship organized by US tech firm Palantir Technologies, Enhans said Sunday.
In the "Startup Fellowship 000," Palantir's first startup support program, 25 companies were selected globally, with Enhans being the only one from Korea and one of just two from Asia.
Enhans said it was recognized for its technical leadership, strong execution capabilities, and its potential to lead the next generation of AI-native infrastructure companies.
'This fellowship is not only a validation of our technology, but a global recognition of our capacity to drive disruptive innovation in enterprise AI,' said Enhans CEO Lee Seung-hyun.
'Through this collaboration with Palantir, we intend to present real-world AI use cases that redefine how commerce operates and establish a new global standard for execution-focused agent technologies.'
Enhans' flagship technology centers on its Artificial Intelligence Agents Platform, which consists of three core modules: an AI data collector, a multi-modal decision system for processing logic, and an action transformer. These enable automation in complex operational environments, according to the company.
The AI agent commerce system supports real-time market trend analysis, marketplace product exposure strategies, and pricing strategies.
Through the fellowship, Enhans will work closely with Palantir engineers to enhance its vertical AI agents — built on the Large Action Model — by integrating them with Palantir's core platforms, Foundry and AIP (Artificial Intelligence Platform), the company said.
At the end of the program in late June, Enhans will present its AIP-powered product at a showcase event attended by Palantir leadership, Fortune 50 executives, and global investors, the company added.
"Beyond technical integration, the collaboration is expected to help Enhans validate its global scalability and lay the groundwork for future strategic partnerships," the startup said.
Palantir, a fast-growing AI company in the US, launched the Startup Fellowship to support early-stage companies building AI-native infrastructure.
'The future is here. Launching a wave of AI-native unicorns and being selected into the Startup Fellowship is an incredible accomplishment and a pivotal moment in the startup journey,' Palantir said in describing its first fellowship program.

HS Hyosung vice chairman to be quizzed in probe into ex-first lady

An heir to a major South Korean business enterprise, Hyosung Group, will appear for questioning next week by the special counsel over corruption allegations surrounding former first lady Kim Keon Hee, officials said. Cho Hyun-sang, vice chairman of HS Hyosung, has agreed to undergo questioning next Monday, officials with special counsel Min Joong-ki's team said. Cho is being called in as a person of interest, not a suspect. Min's team is investigating allegations that a man surnamed Kim, who has served as a "butler" for the former first lady's family, received 18 billion won ($13 million) in questionable investments in 2023 for his rental car company, IMS, from several firms, including Kakao Mobility Corp. The special counsel suspects that these companies made the investments due to the butler Kim's close ties to the former first lady. They are also looking into whether the funds were funneled to the former first lady as slush funds. Cho is one of several business figures the special counsel team plans to summon. The date for Cho's attendance was set in consideration of his business trip to Vietnam, running through the end of this week. Although they will be brought in as persons of interest, their status could change to that of suspects as the investigation progresses. The list also includes Kakao founder Kim Beom-su. Regarding media reports that Kim cited health reasons for declining to appear for questioning scheduled for Thursday, the special counsel said they have not received any such notice from him. Seoul shares up for 2nd day on tech gains despite tariff concerns

Seoul shares closed higher Tuesday, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street and boosted by technology stocks in the face of US President Donald Trump's latest tariff threats. The Korean won rose slightly against the US dollar. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index added 13.25 points, or 0.41 percent, to finish at 3,215.28. Trade volume was moderate at 415.06 million shares worth 11.94 trillion won ($8.6 billion). Decliners outnumbered gainers 510 to 364. Foreigners bought a net 212.29 billion won worth of shares, while institutions and individuals sold 20.8 billion won and 311.19 won stocks, respectively. Trump has notified key US trading partners of new tariff rates set to take effect Aug. 1 unless they offer improved terms in ongoing trade negotiations. "Trump has already sent a letter to South Korea notifying plans to impose 25 percent tariffs on South Korean products starting Aug. 1. The market had already priced in the news, causing no major jitters," Lee Kyoung-min, an analyst at Daishin Securities Co., said. Large-cap stocks were mixed. Market bellwether Samsung Electronics rose 1.92 percent to 63,700 won, and defense industry firm Hanwha Aerospace jumped 5.08 percent to 848,000 won. Leading shipbuilder HD Hyundai climbed 0.51 percent to 139,000 won, and leading shipping firm HMM gained 1.76 percent to 25,950 won. Sejong University tops Korea's tech transfer earnings in 2024

Sejong University announced that its technology transfer income for 2024 was the highest among South Korean universities, posting 17.37 billion won ($12.5 million) that year. It outpaced other top Korean universities, including Kyung Hee University at 9.7 billion won, KAIST at 8.1 billion won, Seoul National University at 6.4 billion won and Sungkyunkwan University at 4.3 billion won. This figure is the second-highest in Korean history, following Hanyang University's 27.9 billion won in 2022, and reflects a dramatic leap from just a few hundred million won a decade ago, the university explained. University technology transfer is the process of moving scientific discoveries and inventions from university research labs into the public and private sectors, often leading to new products, services and businesses. The achievement stems from Sejong's longstanding commitment to structured innovation through the Education Ministry's Bridge program, which supports the commercialization of university intellectual property, the school said. The school has developed high-value, mature technologies by establishing tailored support across the research and development and startup lifecycle. A standout success lies in its diversification of standard essential patent royalties, especially in video codec technologies. Since joining global patent pools for HEVC, VVC, AV1 and VP9, Sejong University has secured hundreds of billions of won in royalties. 'Through the specialization of a dedicated technology commercialization organization, Sejong University has been conducting demand-driven, high-value technology commercialization that is in line with the university's characteristics,' said Um Jong-hwa, president of Sejong University. "This achievement is the result of fulfilling the university's social responsibility to return its excellent research results to society and contribute to improving national competitiveness.
