5 Kanwariyas killed in road accident in Jharkhand's Deoghar, several injured
The incident took place when a bus carrying Kanwariyas collided with a vehicle transporting gas cylinders near Jamuniya forest under Mohanpur police station limits around 4.30 am, the officer added.
'At least five persons were killed and many injured when a 32-seater bus carrying Kanwariyas collided with a truck transporting gas cylinders near Jamuniya forest in Mohanpur police station in Deoghar,' Inspector General (Dumka Zone) Shailendra Kumar Sinha told PTI.
Casualties may increase as the condition of many of the injured are serious, an officer said.
He said the district administration has been alerted and the injured were being rushed to nearby hospitals and primary health centres.
Traffic deputy SP Laxman Prasad, however, said at least nine people have lost their lives in the accident and the injured are being sent to hospitals.

Over 2,000 policemen killed in Paks restive KPK in 25 years: Report
Peshawar, Aug 4 (PTI) Over 2,000 policemen have been killed in terrorist attacks in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the last 25 years, a sharp increase from the 236 deaths recorded in the nearly 30 years before that, according to an official report released on Monday. The report, released by the Central Police Office, said that 2,330 policemen were killed in the province in the past 55 years, with 236 police officers being killed between 1970 and 1999. The number rose multifold in the next 25 years, with 2,094 police personnel being killed from the year 2000 to July 2025. There was a sharp rise in militant attacks after 2007, amid a surge in terrorism, with the police being targeted through bombings, ambushes, and targeted killings. The highest number of casualties was recorded in 2009, when 210 officers were killed in the province. Similarly, 108 policemen were killed in 2010, 154 in 2011, 106 in 2012, 135 in 2013 and 111 in 2014. The report highlights that although the frequency of attacks decreased slightly in the following years, targeted assaults on police saw a resurgence in recent times. In 2022, 93 police personnel were killed, and the figure rose to 188 in 2023. The death toll has reached 76 so far this year. At an event organised here to mark the 'Police Martyrs' Day' in Pakistan, KPK Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced a financial grant of Rs 50,000 each for the families of the policemen killed. Additional CMO suspended for drunken driving in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Aug 4 (PTI) Additional Chief Medical Officer in-charge of the Chamoli district Mohammad Shah Hasan was suspended on Monday for allegedly driving his car under the influence of alcohol recently, and hitting two motorcycle riders in the Rudraprayag district, causing serious injuries to them. A report related to the incident submitted to the director general of medical health and family welfare on Sunday mentioned alcohol consumption by the ACMO, Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar said. His car allegedly hit two motorcycle riders in the Tilani area of the Rudraprayag district. His conduct was in violation of the Uttarakhand State Employees Conduct Rules 2002, he said. Indiscipline, irresponsible behaviour or ignorance of service obligations at any level in the department will not be tolerated, he said, adding that the incident damages the credibility of the entire health system. Bodies of six migrant workers killed in AP granite quarry reach Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 (PTI) The bodies of six Odia migrant workers who lost their lives in a granite quarry accident in Andhra Pradesh's Bapatla district were brought back to their native villages in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday when a giant rock collapsed in a granite quarry, killing six workers from Odisha and injuring eight others, an officer said. The deceased were identified as Danda Badathya (48), Musa Jena (43), Banamali Behera (30), Santosh Gouda (36) of Ganjam district and Bhaskar Bisoi (40) and Tukuma Dalai (37) of Mohana block in Gajapati district. Two ministers — Bibhuti Bhusan Jena and Gokulananda Mallik — paid their last respects to the deceased workers and met their family members at Digapahandi hospital in Ganjam district. 'Soon after getting information about the incident, I talked to Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and the district collector. We sent a team to bring back the bodies of the deceased labourers," Jena said. Mallik said the CM has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased workers. From Digapahandi hospital, the bodies of the workers were sent to their native villages, where the last rites were performed. Banamali's father Bhagaban Behera said his son went to Andhra Pradesh around a month ago. 'We came to know about his death when one of his co-workers called me around noon. He was the only bread-winner of the family" Bhagaban said. A relative of Bhaskar Bisoi in Mohana said both Bhaskar and Tukuma had recently left for Andhra Pradesh in search of work. 'We are shocked… we never imagined they would never return," he added.
