Police nab suspect of robbing three food deliverers
Besut district police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the 32-year-old suspect, who was suspected of being involved in knife-wielding robberies since last month, was arrested by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Besut district police headquarters (IPD).
"The suspect was arrested following three robberies involving three female victims, all of whom were food deliverers between June 24 and July 20.
"The suspect's modus operandi was to identify female vendors who provided delivery service and would give addresses at unoccupied houses in remote areas in Kampung Gong Medang and Kampung Tembila," he told reporters at a press conference at the Besut IPD here today.
Azamuddin said when the victim arrived at the given location, the suspect would approach the victim's car and brandish a knife before robbing the victim's jewellery.
He added, the suspect managed to rob the jewellery belonging to the first and second victims, involving an estimated loss of RM30,000 and RM200 in cash.
"However, the suspect failed to rob the third victim because the victim resisted, causing the victim to suffer injuries to both hands," he said.
Azamuddin said following the arrest, the police also managed to seize two melted gold bars weighing 82.26 grammes believed to belong to two victims, a Honda City and two mobile phones belonging to the suspect.
He added that checks found that the suspect had a past criminal record related to robbery and was tested negative for drugs.
He said the suspect, who is married, was remanded to assist in the investigation under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code and Section 394 of the same act. – BERNAMA

2 Bangladeshi cyclists killed in hit-and-run
MUAR: Two Bangladeshi cyclists were killed and a fellow country man seriously injured after a hit-and-run in Parit Salam, Parit Yusof, here last night. The 8.45pm crash occurred when the three Bangladeshi men, all aged 21, were cycling against traffic from Parit Yusof towards Bukit Mor before an unidentified vehicle heading in the opposite direction crashed into them. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said initial investigations revealed the vehicle hit the trio, flinging them onto the left shoulder of the road. One cyclist died on the spot, while another succumbed to his injuries while he sought treatment at the Muar hospital's red zone. The third victim suffered fractures to his right wrist and shoulder and is treated in the hospital's yellow zone. As per press time, the driver is yet to lodge a report. "Investigations are underway to identify the driver, and vehicle involved to facilitate investigations for reckless driving causing deaths," he said in a statement today. If convicted, the offender faces up to 10 years' jail and a RM50,000 fine. Raiz urged witnesses to come forward and assist the investigation. Mall assault: Classmates attacked teen over how he spoke, say cops
KUALA LUMPUR: The Form One student assaulted at a Kajang mall was targeted over his classmates' dissatisfaction with his communication and behaviour. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the four 13-year-old students was extended for one more day until tomorrow. "The students were released on police bail today after the documentation and investigation process were completed. "So far, nine witness statements have been taken, including those from the four students who were arrested. "The suspect, a classmate of the victim, was dissatisfied over how the complainant communicated and interacted with classmates," he said when contacted today. Four male students were detained after the victim, who is also a Form One student at a secondary school in Kajang, lodged a police report after being beaten by a classmate at 11am on July 30. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
