Patna-DDU rail stretch cleared for 130kmph ops
The improvement involves the busy Howrah-Patna-DDU-Delhi corridor, one of Indian Railways' heavily used routes.
The speed clearance followed a night-time inspection and speed trial on Wednesday, led by East Central Railway (ECR) general manager Chhatrasal Singh. Singh rode in the locomotive cab of the Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express, accompanied by principal chief engineer Shailesh Verma and Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary.
"The trial confirmed improved track and signal maintenance under night conditions, validating readiness for higher-speed trains," said ECR's chief public relations officer, Saraswati Chandra. He added that the Tejas Rajdhani reached DDU 13 minutes ahead of schedule and the GM expressed satisfaction with monsoon safety protocols.
Meanwhile, the railways have submitted a survey report to the Railway Board for the proposed third and fourth lines along the same corridor. The survey, costing approximately Rs 7.8 crore, is aimed at decongesting the saturated route and improving the flow of both passenger and freight trains.
"This upgrade will reduce travel time, improve punctuality and increase capacity," said DRM Choudhary. He added that the project forms part of 'Mission Raftaar', an initiative to boost average train speeds across India.

"This is not just about religious revival. It is a step toward restoring the city's lost pride and historical dignity," Chandra said. Kanwar yatra: All education institutions in Meerut to remain closed from July 16 to 23
Meerut: All educational institutions in Meerut district will remain closed from July 16 to July 23 in view of the kanwar yatra, district authorities said on DM Dr V K Singh said strict action will be taken against any institution found open during this period. Singh added. "The decision was taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, avoid inconvenience to students and staff, and manage traffic flow during the yatra." The closure period coincides with Shivratri on July 23, when kanwariyas are expected to arrive in large numbers from districts across western Uttar Pradesh — including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur — leading to substantial foot traffic and enhanced security measures. Gujarat CM visits Dharoi dam site, plans afoot to make it ‘world-class sustainable tourism, pilgrimage destination'
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday visited Dharoi dam site in Mehsana district and inspected various ongoing projects to develop the area into a world-class sustainable tourism and pilgrimage destination. During the visit, the CM also chaired a meeting on Dam Safety while reviewing the situation of various reservoirs in the state. An official release stated that the Dharoi development project is being implemented in three phases at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore. The objective of the project is to give impetus to tourism in the region through spiritual, adventure, eco and recreational activities and to create employment opportunities for local residents, it added. The state government is developing the region as an iconic place while creating a tourism circuit covering places like Polo forest, Taranga, Vadnagar and Ambaji, according to the statement. During his visit to Dharoi, the CM chaired a high-level meeting on dam safety in the state. An official release said that Gujarat has a total of 1,124 reservoirs that include 22 big dams, 96 medium dams, and 1,006 small dams. Their pre-monsoon inspection was completed and all of them are in safe condition, it said. A review of the same was done in the meeting. The CM was also given a presentation according to which more than 25 reservoirs are filled to 100% capacity while 56 of them are 70% to 100% full. As many as 42 reservoirs are filled 25% to 30% while 40 of them are running at under 25% capacity. As per the release, the biggest dam of Gujarat, Sardar Sarovar Dam, has 4,889 million cubic metre water at present. During the visit, the CM was accompanied by Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Chief Advisor Hasmukh Adhia and other senior officials along with local MPs and MLAs.
