Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has once again announced plans to boost the state's population. While addressing an event on the occasion of World Population Day on Friday, Naidu said that his government would soon launch a policy to encourage people to have more children. 'We will launch a robust policy on population growth soon. Population is our strongest economic resource. The world is increasingly reliant on countries with large populations," he said as reported by Indian Express. He further raised concerns that South India's low birth rate could affect its future representation in Parliament. He said that the fertility rate in the state must be increased to avoid a human resource crisis in the future. 'To avoid a human resource crisis in the future, the fertility rate in the state must rise. Joint families are disappearing. There's growing concern about the declining population in South India. While Parliament seats may increase in the future, southern states could see reduced representation," he added as reported by the news outlet. Citing concerns that a shrinking population could impede economic development, the Chief Minister indicated that his government is planning to implement measures to boost birth rates, acknowledging the influence of increasing living expenses. Naidu said that while in the past the state government had launched a movement for population control in the state, the need now is population management. He said India's ability to compete with developed nations is because of its population. 'In the past, population was seen as a burden, but today, it is considered an asset. Earlier, we used to offer incentives to control population growth. For instance, families with up to five members were given 25 kilograms of rice, but no additional benefits were provided to families with more than five members. At that time, we even enacted a law disqualifying those with more than two children from contesting local body elections, as it suited the needs of the society back then," he had said while addressing a press conference. Citing statistics, Naidu had shared projections about the state's declining population. 'By 2026, Andhra Pradesh's population is expected to reach 53.8 million. It is estimated to grow to 54.2 million by 2031 and 54.4 million by 2036. Mega PTM 2.0 draws 2.3 crore participants at 61k schools in Andhra
ANANTAPUR: In a landmark initiative, the Andhra Pradesh government organised Mega Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) 2.0 on Thursday, drawing over 2.3 crore participants across 61,000 schools in the State in a single day. Spearheaded by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, the PTM united students, parents, teachers, school management committees, officials, donors, and alumni to bolster the State's education system. Held on Guru Purnima, the PTM at the Zilla Parishad High School in Kothacheruvu, Puttaparthi, Sri Sathya Sai district, was attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who described schools as modern temples of knowledge, and urged collective responsibility to nurture them. The PTM, the second major initiative under the TDP-led NDA government, marked an unprecedented effort, with Lokesh noting, 'Never before has a parent-teacher meeting been conducted across the entire State in one day.' Now, the Mega PTM 2.0 with over 2.3 crore participants in a single day is set for an entry into Guinness World Records. Naidu, engaging directly with students, parents, and teachers, shared a personal anecdote about his wife Bhuvaneswari's dedication to their son Lokesh's education, ensuring his admission to prestigious institutions like Cambridge and Stanford. He praised Lokesh, now HRD Minister, for taking the responsibility of shaping the future of Andhra Pradesh's students. Naidu emphasised his commitment to elevating government schools to compete with private institutions.

Govt committed to strengthening public education system, says Minister Bharath
Kurnool: Education shapes the future, and the Andhra Pradesh government is committed to strengthening the public education system to match the standards of corporate schools, said TG Bharath, Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing. The Minister was speaking at the Mega Parent-Teacher Interaction 2.0 event held at the Town Model High School and Government Junior College in Kurnool on Thursday, where he attended as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Bharath emphasised the importance of education in shaping students' future and urged parents to support their children in pursuing subjects they are genuinely interested in, rather than imposing their own choices. He encouraged parents to use such interactions to understand their children's academic and behavioral progress through teachers and offer necessary support. He highlighted initiatives like filling vacant teacher posts, supplying fortified rice, and distributing quality uniforms, books, bags, and shoes to students. Under the 'Talli Ki Vandanam' scheme, he noted that funds were successfully deposited into 97% of mothers' accounts, with the remaining 3% facing minor technical issues, which will be resolved soon. Minister Bharath shared that the number of students at the school has increased from 920 last year to around 1,150 this year, attributing the rise to the government's reforms. He affirmed the government's commitment to developing public schools to a level where they can effectively compete with private institutions. Recalling his father's contributions as the then Minister for Minor Irrigation, he mentioned the construction of 22 classrooms, a mineral water plant, and an auditorium at the same school. The event also featured cultural performances by students, and the Minister honoured students who had excelled in taekwondo competitions. Saplings were distributed to promote environmental responsibility among students. Later, Minister Bharath also participated in the Parent-Teacher Mega Interaction 2.0 event at the Government Junior College, led by Principal Padmavati. Speaking on the occasion, he reflected on completing his Intermediate studies at the same college along with his sister. He underscored the revolutionary changes in education under the NDA government, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence and job-oriented training programmes. Advising students to pursue additional skill development beyond academics, he cautioned against bad influences and substance abuse, encouraging them to maintain a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and regular exercise. During the event, students requested the establishment of a mineral water plant and levelling of the playground. The Minister assured that these issues would be addressed, stating that an estimate of Rs 7 crore had been made for infrastructure development across Kurnool schools. He also felicitated Pavani, who topped the MPC stream in Andhra Pradesh with 986 marks, and other students recognised as 'Shining Stars' and Taekwondo medal winners. The event began with a floral tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar's statue on the college premises and was attended by faculty, parents and students.
