Tulu language campaign launched to expand school curriculum

'We will actively collaborate in all initiatives aimed at Tulu expansion,' said Bhandari, voicing readiness to work with the Academy. Plans are in motion to submit an official request to the Secondary Education Minister to formalize guest teacher appointments and potentially upgrade Tulu's status as Karnataka's second official language.
Academy officials also communicated their plan to host a nationwide conclave in December, inviting Tulu associations from domestic and international platforms. The meeting served as a blueprint for future action.
The delegation included notable figures such as former Okkuta President Dharmapal U. Devadiga (Mumbai); Vice-Presidents Jayakara Shetty Indrali, Yogeesh Shetty Jeppu; General Secretary P. A. Poojari; and members Sudhakar Alva, Vijayalakshmi Shetty, Chandrashekhar Suvarna, Mulki Karunakar Shetty, Sesappa Rai Ramakunj, Chandrashekhara Devadig, Tarānaath Shetty Boḷar, Ganesha Mulki, and Prashanth Bhat Kadaba.
This initiative marks a critical milestone for the Tulu community in ensuring linguistic preservation and integration into mainstream education.
Advocates hope it will foster increased enrolment and better recognition among educational authorities statewide.

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 12 (ANI): Ahead of the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan, security arrangements have been intensified in Varanasi, with the police deploying additional personnel to manage the anticipated heavy footfall of devotees. Nearly 2000 police personnel, 6 companies of CRPF, 10 companies of PAC, one flood relief company, and 1 team of ATS have been deployed.' 'For security and traffic arrangements, regular anti-encroachment drives were being carried out in the Varanasi district and also in the Kashi Zone around the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Aerial surveillance via drones is also being carried out,' he added. The ADCP also noted the rising water level of the Ganga River due to continuous rainfall. 'Before the first Monday of Sawan, the water level of the river has risen, so we have put a stop to the use of boats. The water level is above 65 metres and the flow is also strong... Social media cells have been activated so that no fake news or rumours are spread on social media. Orders have been given to take immediate action in case of any fake news spread on social media,' he said. Earlier, due to incessant rainfall, several ghats and temples in Varanasi were submerged as the Ganga crossed the danger mark. Locals said that the water level is rising by one step daily at the ghats. A resident, Sonu Sahani, told ANI, 'Water level is rising by one step each day. There were 84 ghats here, and after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the Namo Ghat, there are now 85 ghats here. We are in contact with all the ghats, while some roads are blocked. This happens annually, whenever it rains, it causes difficulty for the public as they get stuck.' Another local, Lakhan Kumar Sahani, said, 'The water is rising one or two steps daily. Clarify If Detained Migrant Workers From Bengal: Court Asks Delhi Government
Kolkata: Taking up two habeas corpus petitions alleging illegal detention of migrant workers from West Bengal in Delhi, the Calcutta High Court Friday directed the administration in the northern state to clarify whether they are under detention. The petitioners, who are relatives of those allegedly detained, also sought direction to the authorities concerned for their release and production before the court. It was claimed in the two petitions that Sweety Bibi, Kurban Sheikh, their minor son, Sunali Khatun, Danish and his minor grandson have been illegally detained in New Delhi. The advocate appearing for the petitioners submitted that Bengali-speaking people have been detained in Delhi on suspicion that they are Bangladeshi citizens and that the officials did not even cross-check their identities. "In view of the nature of allegations made, prima facie, we are of the opinion that the writ petition is maintainable and this court cannot be a silent spectator," the division bench presided by Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty said. The division bench, also comprising Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra, directed the Delhi government to place before it relevant documents on whether the two had been detained or were missing. The Delhi government was also directed to answer if the "detention" was in connection with the order of any court and the grounds for that. The high court also asked the Delhi government to inform it whether they had been detained after informing them of the grounds. The administration of Delhi was also asked whether their detention was related to any investigation being conducted by the police authorities or state officials. It was also asked to answer whether there was any correspondence between the governments of the two states in this regard. The bench directed the West Bengal chief secretary to coordinate with his counterpart of the national capital territory of Delhi for compliance of the order. The court fixed July 16 as the next date of hearing. Lawyers representing the West Bengal government submitted that necessary steps are being taken by the state authorities to avail instructions from the Delhi administration. The Calcutta High Court passed similar orders on the Odisha government on Thursday over allegations that two migrant workers from West Bengal were under illegal detention in the neighbouring state. It directed the Odisha government to clarify whether migrant workers Sainur Islam and Rakibul Islam are under detention by the Odisha Police in Jagatsinghpur district of the neighbouring state. Two habeas corpus petitions were moved before the high court seeking their immediate release and production before it. This matter will come up for further hearing on July 14.
