BPM companies tap growing demand from GCCs to expand
BPMs have been pivoting from purely back-office cost-outsourcing firms to more technology and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled transformation partners. This aligns closely with the evolving needs of GCCs as they seek greater operational efficiencies and innovation, experts said. Despite concerns around insourcing by GCCs eating away business for the IT/BPM industry, executives believe there is ample room for collaboration and are optimistic that the build-operate-transfer (BOT) and shared hybrid operating models that are picking up pace are 'win-win' and enable 'coexistence'.'Most enterprises adopt a hybrid model that leverages the strengths of both,' said Keshav Murugesh, group CEO, WNS. 'GCCs allow for a deeper cultural connect with the parent organisation, and companies like WNS bring deep domain expertise, innovative technology, ready talent, cost efficiency and shared investments in transformation tools.'The company is providing end-to-end services to GCCs ranging across the design of the future state operating models, consolidating operations into a single centre, talent acquisition, transition as a service, managed services and infrastructure set-up, he said.Riju Vashisht, chief growth officer, Genpact, said the firm's investments in advanced technologies such as generative AI and agentic AI are the kind of capabilities GCCs are looking for as they evolve into innovation engines for global enterprises.'While we've worked with GCCs in the past, we're now bringing the full power of Genpact behind this opportunity, with a formal, programmatic approach, clear leadership and dedicated teams in the market,' Vashisht said.Over the past year, Genpact has made a strategic pivot toward 'service-as-agentic-solutions'. For GCCs, it seeks to support the entire lifecycle, from upfront strategy and consulting to advanced capabilities in agentic AI, data and process transformation.Nikhil Anand, SVP & global head — digital business services, Sutherland, said that some GCCs are also exploring joint innovation and joint go-to-market collaborations leveraging the firm's digital & AI teams to serve their end-clients. Mid-market GCCs, which are relatively resource-constrained and less familiar with the Indian landscape, present a significant opportunity, as they seek to partner for turn-key set-ups tapping into the experience and expertise that firms like Sutherland bring, he said.'We have configured (our capabilities and services) in a way that we can execute not only turn-key programs but also flexibly bring consulting, legal, tax and infrastructure services during the set-up phase; transition, operations and program management services during the scaling phase; and our digital, analytics and AI enablement teams during the transformation phase," said Anand.Margin pressure from rising labour costs, inflation and foreign exchange volatility is making traditional BPO models unsustainable, said Rajesh Ojha, partner and GIC/GCC market segment leader, PwC India. 'In response, BPM firms are shifting toward higher-value, GCC-aligned services like FP&A, analytics and digital ops—offering better margins and deeper client stickiness,' he said.Enterprises now prefer models with lower operating costs amid high global interest rates, fuelling demand for assisted GCCs on vendor infrastructure, or 'GCC-as-a-service'. Further, Ojha said, regulatory developments—whether data laws or protectionist shifts–-are pushing enterprises toward compliant, captive GCCs, positioning BPMs as 'managed capability partners' who can enable secure, IP-protected set-ups. Shares to buy or sell: Sachin Gupta of 5paisa recommends Balrampur Chini, Metropolis Healthcare shares today
Stock market today: Indian stock markets opened with some pressure on Tuesday as worries regarding US President Donald Trump's new tariff measures came to the forefront. However, investors seemed to adopt a cautious "wait and watch" stance, looking for more clarity on the situation. Currently, the domestic benchmark indices are trading flat. The Nifty 50 index started at 25,427.85, down 33.45 points or 0.13%, while the Sensex experienced a slight dip, opening at 83,387.03, down by 55.47 points or 0.07%. Experts noted that the market's reaction was mild and not panicked, unlike the period from April 2nd to April 9th. In the last 90 days, the markets have shown increased resilience, moving past the uncertainties surrounding Trump's policies to focus on his actions. On the technical front, Sachin Gupta of 5paisa believes Nifty 50's near term support and resistance to be at 25,180/25,000 and 25,600/25,740. Gupta recommends two stocks to buy in the near-term. Here's what he says about the overall market. The Nifty 50 index ended the session nearly flat to close at 25,461.3, as the market struggled to find direction. The overall market sentiment remained subdued, with 28 constituents declining and 22 advancing, indicating a cautious tone among investors. Most of the other indices ended in red. Midcap and Smallcap indices were marginally down. Sectorally too, apart from FMCG and Oil & Gas, others witnessed weak performance. Technically, Nifty 50 started the week on an uncertain note as investors searched for a fresh set of triggers. 20D EMA continues to offer support and RSI is supportive of bullish momentum. Near term support and resistance are at 25,180/25,000 and 25,600/25,740. On shares to buy on Tuesday, Sachin Gupta recommends two stocks on Tuesday — Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd, and Metropolis Healthcare Ltd. On the daily scale, the stock is displaying a strong bullish setup, having recently confirmed an Inverse Head & Shoulders pattern breakout, which is a classic reversal signal indicating potential upside. Following the breakout, the stock is consolidating around the neckline, suggesting strength and a healthy base formation before the next leg higher. Additionally, the stock is trading above its 21-day EMA, reflecting short-term momentum in favour of the bulls. A positive crossover in the MACD further reinforces the bullish bias, while rising volume during the breakout and consolidation phase adds credibility to the uptrend, signaling increasing investor interest and potential for continued upward movement. Hence, traders are advised to hold their existing positions, with short-term support placed at 570 levels and immediate resistance seen near 630 levels. A decisive move above this resistance could open the door for further gains. On the daily timeframe, the stock has given a consolidation breakout, accompanied by a positive moving average crossover between the 50-day and 100-day EMAs, signaling a strengthening trend. This breakout is supported by a surge in volume and bullish price action, confirming strong buying interest. Additionally, a positive crossover in the RSI further reinforces the bullish momentum. On the weekly chart, the stock has managed to move above the 50% Fibonacci retracement level, indicating a recovery of prior losses and the potential for a sustained uptrend. These combined signals suggest strong upside potential in the near term. Traders are advised to maintain their holding positions and also consider fresh buying around 1,820, with upside targets of 1,945 and 2,040, while maintaining a strict stop loss at 1,700 on a closing basis. Bharat Bandh Tomorrow: Will Schools, Banks Be Impacted As 25 Cr Workers Set To Go On Strike?
Last Updated: Over 25 crore workers from various sectors are expected to participate in a nationwide general strike on Wednesday, July 9. Over 25 crore workers from various sectors, including banking, insurance, postal services, and coal mining, are expected to participate in a nationwide general strike on Wednesday, July 9. Organised by a coalition of 10 central trade unions, the 'Bharat Bandh' call aims to protest against the central government's policies, which the unions describe as 'anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-national pro-corporate". The unions have called for widespread participation to ensure the strike's success, highlighting months of intensive preparations across both formal and informal sectors. 'More than 25 crore workers are anticipated to join the strike. Farmers and rural workers will also participate across the country," Amarjeet Kaur of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The strike is expected to significantly disrupt key public services and industries. 'Banking, postal services, coal mining, factories, and state transport services will be affected," said Harbhajan Singh Sidhu of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha. The unrest centres around a 17-point charter of demands submitted to Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya last year. The unions accuse the government of ignoring these demands and failing to hold the annual labour conference for the past decade, indicating a lack of concern for the labour force. Why Bharat Bandh? In a joint statement, the forum criticised the government's labour reforms, including the introduction of four new labour codes, which they claim undermine workers' rights. These codes, they argue, aim to weaken collective bargaining, reduce union activities, extend working hours, and protect employers from accountability under labour laws. The forum accused the government of abandoning the welfare state status and favouring foreign and Indian corporates, as evident from its policies. The unions have been opposing the 'privatisation of public sector enterprises and public services, outsourcing, contractorisation, and the casualisation of the workforce." The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and a coalition of agricultural workers' unions have expressed support for the strike and plan to mobilise extensively in rural India, the union leaders stated. Trade unions previously held similar nationwide strikes on November 26, 2020, on March 28-29, 2022, and on February 16 last year. Will Banks Remain Closed? However, banking unions have not separately confirmed about the disruption of services due to bandh, but as per bandh organisers financial services will be affected. Bandh organisers said that the strike includes employees from public sector banks and cooperative banking sectors, which may impact banking operations. What About Schools, Colleges & Offices? Schools, colleges, and private offices are expected to remain open on July 9. However, normal operations may face disruptions in some regions due to transport issues. Public buses, taxis, and app-based cab services could be affected as trade unions and allied groups hold protest marches and road demonstrations in several cities.
