John Goodman describes fall on set of Tom Cruise movie that caused his hip injury: 'I started fearing the worst'
"It was a real accident. We had been working on the scene for a week and a half. I wasn't quite getting it right, and through a process, I finally made a breakthrough," the star of Argo and TV's just-concluded HBO series The Righteous Gemstones tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Friday. "But after that, we were blocking it, and I was wearing stocking feet, like I had been for the last week and a half. I was passing Tom, and my legs just went on the floor, and I came up parallel to the ground and landed on my hip."
Goodman, 73, then did what anyone would do.
"I tried to get back up, and when I couldn't do that, I started fearing the worst," he says. "I didn't know I had fractured it until we got X-rays."
As EW reported at the time, Goodman was treated at a hospital.
"Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury," a rep for the studio, Warner Bros., told Entertainment Weekly in March. "He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John's full recovery."
In the new interview, Goodman explains his treatment.
"There was a brilliant doctor on set, and he got me into the Cleveland Clinic [in London]," the Big Lebowski actor says. "They operated the next morning, and so far, so good. Unfortunately, I was down for about a month there where I couldn't do anything, and it was driving me nuts. They found other things to do, and I finally got back into it."Goodman's latest project is animated movie Smurfs, in which he voices Papa Smurf. He costars alongside a star-studded cast that includes Rihanna, Nick Offerman, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, and more.
Smurfs arrives in theaters July 18.

‘South Park' Global Fans Furious as Show Pulled From Paramount+ Amid Licensing Dispute
International fans of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny were left reeling last week after South Park was pulled off streaming service Paramount+ amid an ongoing licensing dispute between the show's creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Comedy Central's parent company, Paramount Global. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Paramount+'s international license to stream episodes of the long-running animated series has expired, forcing the streamer to pull the show off its global service. Outside the U.S., Paramount+ is available in the English-speaking territories of Canada, Australia, the U.K. and Ireland; in France, Italy and German-speaking Europe; in Japan, and across Latin America. 'Any accusation that Jeff Shell tried to lower the price or devalue the franchise in any way is not only nonsensical but patently false,' the statement reads. Paramount has two years left on its $900 million licensing deal for South Park but without unified international streaming rights, many global fans of the potty-mouthed kids from Colorado will remain frustrated. ADHD fundraiser's plea as £2k lost in admin error
An islander who took on a three-week fundraising challenge for ADHD Jersey is asking people to re-send their donations, after an administrative error refunded all the money. Will Crawford, who calls himself 'Bare Wills', slept outside for 21 days in May for the charity, raising more than £2,300. He was recovering on holiday when he received news that his supporters had been refunded their donation amount because he had forgotten to link his bank details to the fundraising page. ADHD Jersey was intending to use the money to fund its teenage wellbeing programme, but have so far only been able to retrieve £650, due to people re-sending their donations. Mr Crawford said the error made is typical of how ADHD can present itself. "It's just the diversity of my ADHD, I've got two Facebooks, two Instagrams, two emails – I just don't know how I missed it," he said. "We have had some funds given back but I feel like people haven't seen it come back into their accounts, so don't know about what has happened." Rachel Boss, chief executive of ADHD Jersey, said retrieving the money back is vital for the charity. "This could have happened to any one of us," she said of the mistake. "We've got nearly £700 back so far. If we do get the rest of it back that would be absolutely phenomenal. "We are self-funded at the moment, so it's people like Will doing fundraisers like this who are keeping things going - and we are down to bare bones at the moment. "Any funding that we get goes directly back to the people with ADHD Jersey. We're launching a teenage wellbeing programme and we need to continue running our STEPS programme."
