Rape incident proves women not safe in Pune: Sule
'In the last few days, crimes against women have been coming to the fore. The police system needs to work to stop this and to make the state feel safe for women. I request the state chief Minister to take serious note of the incident. The police should be given instructions so that the accused in the case is punished as severely as possible,' she said.
State Women's Commission and state NCP chief Rupali Chakankar said the police have started their investigation into the case to find any other motive behind the incident.
'Such incidents are on the rise and there needs to be a check on this. Pune city is preferred by citizens for their livelihood, education or to live. It provides facilities for safe commuting urbanisation and is preferred by students or professionals for their future career. However, the incident took place despite good field work by police,' she said.
State BJP leader Chitra Wagh said this cruel mentality of a few was on the rise in the state. 'The accused must have done a recce of the house before committing the crime. Police investigation will bring everything out into the public. The police have started a search operation to nab the accused.
Similar incidents have taken place in the past so my request to all women is to be alert and vigilant,' she said.
City NCP chief Prashant Jagtap said the law and order situation in the city has collapsed under the BJP's rule at the state and Centre. 'The women are no longer safe in their houses as well. The city has voted BJP to power in 2014, 2019 and 2024 t the state and Centre as well as as in municipal corporation.
It is serious that the law and order situation under their rule is in a bad state. This is cheating the public by the ruling BJP. Chief Ninister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar should declare that Punekars should from now take care of themselves instead of relying on the government,' he said, adding that the Chief Minister should resign, taking moral responsibility for the collapse of law and order situation in the city.

Removing Cong corporator: Divisional commissioner seeks report from collector, police commissioner
Indore: Indore divisional commissioner, acting on Mayor's request to remove corporator Anwar Qadri from his post, has sought comprehensive information from district collector and commissioner of police about Congress leader who has been booked in a criminal case and NSA. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav had written to Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh on June 20 requesting action regarding Qadri's removal. To this, Singh has written to Indore collector and commissioner of police, seeking a detailed investigation into the corporator's case, including specifics of previous incidents, and a report or opinion on necessary action under Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1956. Divisional Commissioner holds direct authority to remove a corporator. As per Section 19(2) of MP Municipal Corporation Act, Qadri will first be issued a show-cause notice. His response will be considered, and if deemed unsatisfactory, he would be removed from post of corporator. Recently, Collector Asheesh Singh had issued an order booking Qadri under National Security Act (NSA). This development followed a prior announcement by Indore police of offering Rs 10,000 cash reward for information leading to arrest of Qadri. He is wanted in a case of allegedly funding two youths accused of luring girls from majority community by changing their identities and subsequently forcing them into religious conversion. Congress has come to Qadri's defence, with Leader of Opposition in Municipal Corporation, Chintu Chokse, branding the move as a 'BJP conspiracy.' Congress spokesperson Pramod Dwivedi questioned the Mayor's demand for Qadri's removal, stating that Qadri has not yet been convicted by a court, and the Mayor, being a legal expert himself, should not make such demands. The Congress also highlighted case of BJP corporator and MIC Member Jeetu Jatav alias Yadav, questioning why similar action was not sought against him despite the BJP itself expelling him from the party following a controversy.

Maharashtra: Opposition objects to political remarks made by NCP MLA while presiding in Assembly
The Opposition on Friday took a serious objection to the political remarks made by Legislative Assembly presiding officer and NCP MLA Chetan Tupe while conducting the business. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar too expressed displeasure over Tupe's behaviour. The issue was raised by the Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and it was supported by Bhaskar Jadhav (Shiv Sena UBT) and Nana Patole (Congress). The Opposition said that it was not acceptable demanding that the dignity of the chair should be maintained. Speaker Rahul Narvekar took a serious note and expressed displeasure saying that such incidents should not happen in future. 'Those sitting as presiding officers should maintain the letter and spirit of the law. It is necessary for the presiding officers to work within the framework of the rules given by the Constitution,' he said. The Speaker assured that the chair of the Speaker will not be used for political purposes. He also told the house that he will take a decision in this regard in his chamber. Earlier, Wadettiwar strongly criticised the presiding officer for his political remarks during the discussion on a motion on farmers suicides and the present state of agriculture amid government's apathy. Wadettiwar read some of the political remarks made by presiding officer Chetan Tupe. 'While the discussion was on, the Agriculture Minister and the officials of that department were not present, but the work continued. Does presiding officer Chetan Tupe have the right to sit in the chair and present the government's position? While the chair has a certain dignity, it is not right to make political speeches from there, such a thing has not happened in the past,' he said. He further said, 'The presiding officer in his statements targeted opposition members for their absence while saying they speak about farmers but skip the proceedings.' 'While it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the House functions properly, it is the responsibility of the Parliamentary Affairs Minister to see whether the ministers of the department are present in the house. In such a case, the custom and tradition of the House should be followed from the highest position in the House,' said Wadettiwar.
