Ohio State basketball unveils new Value City Arena court design
Out with the old, in with the new.
On Friday, days after teasing a new court design and reminiscing about hardwood designs of the past, the Ohio State basketball program unveiled a new, sleek look for the upcoming season and beyond. Gone are the plain wood colored floorboards with accented scarlet and gray.
The new look features a main gray pallet for the base floorboard color with red accenting things on the baselines, out of bounds, and lane areas, all with a pop of pure white outlining the shapes and letters. It also appears as though the "O" or stained color of Ohio at midcourt will be replaced by "Buckeyes," which will be a first in program history.
In case you didn't get a chance to view the new design, the Ohio State Hoops "X" account (formerly Twitter), unveiled the new design via a creative team post on Friday. Have a look at the past, and through to the design coming to an arena near you soon, all set to some heart-thumping music and radio calls from years before.
We like it here at Buckeyes Wire. It's not a traditional look per se, but it does bring things into today with a more progressive design that other programs are going to.

Bill Belichick says QB competition will be good
One of the biggest questions going into the 2025 season for the North Carolina Tar Heels will be at the quarterback position. UNC saw a revolving door last year, their first season without Sam Howell or Drake Maye since 2018. And as the Tar Heels struggled with consistency at that position a year go, they have a stronger depth chart going into this season. North Carolina addressed the position by adding Gio Lopez out of the transfer portal while also welcoming in freshmen Bryce Baker and Au'tori Newkirk. Max Johnson is also back after missing almost all of last season, suffering a leg injury in the week 1 win over Minnesota. Advertisement Head coach Bill Belichick believes the competition will be good at the position and benefit the guys. "Well, again, at the quarterback position, we have five players there including the two freshmen who are coming in. Bryce is the only one that was here in the spring," Belichick said in his pre-Summer press conference via Inside Carolina. "Max was here, but wasn't able to participate much. And, of course, Gio is new. So I think, as we see the offense evolve, it'll obviously be reflective of how those quarterbacks do and how that position shapes up. So I think we have good competition there, and our offense is our offense, and we'll be able to adapt to whoever it is." With the quarterbacks having different skill sets, Belichick was asked if having multiple options impacts is quarterback philosophy. It doesn't seem to be a problem for him and the offense. "We've certainly had a lot of quarterbacks through the years with different skillsets, and we're able to work with all of them," Belichick said. "But we'll see how it all plays out. So right now, that position is one that we just don't have a lot of on-field experience with. And again, even though Max was here, he just wasn't able to participate in any of the team drills. So you know, it kind of also includes him, even though he's a very experienced player." Advertisement As it stands right now, Lopez appears to be the favorite to be the starter, but the status of Johnson as well as how Baker does in camp could impact things. UNC class of 2026 quarterback commit adds fourth star on 247Sports
Will Travis Burgess earning the starting job during Year One at UNC? The North Carolina Tar Heels are quietly building one of the top 2026 recruiting classes across college football – and continue adding talent seemingly every day. UNC's 2026 class is highlighted by four separate 4-star recruits: in-state edge rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes, defensive tackle Trashawn Ruffin, safety Jamarrion Gordon and quarterback Travis Burgess. North Carolina has 20+ recruits in its next class, which should continue growing, particularly if there's on-field success in Chapel Hill this fall. Burgess, who plays at Grayson High School in Loganville (Ga.), will join a 2026 Tar Heels quarterback room that includes 2025 signee Bryce Baker and South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez. As Burgess prepares to play his final football season before arriving at UNC, he recently gained some good news, earning a fourth star on his 247Sports recruiting profile. Burgess is currently the 16th-ranked quarterback nationally – and the 27th-ranked player overall in Georgia. 247Sports called Burgess, who wowed at the Elite 11 finals, "One of the most impressive players in Los Angeles – and (he) was constantly able to turn heads with his ball placement." As mentioned previously, Burgess will join Baker and Lopez in North Carolina's 2026 QB room. Baker is a freshman – and there's a strong likelihood he stays in Chapel Hill for Year Two, given the fact he gave the Tar Heels one of their earliest, class of 2025 commitments. Lopez will enter his redshirt sophomore season this fall, competing with Baker and Johnson for the starting job. If Lopez wins the starting gig and plays well during his first year as a Tar Heel, he should return in 2026.
