Kamal Haasan
made headlines last month for his remark about the Kannada language during a promotional event for his film Thug Life. The comment landed him in legal trouble, and the film faced a ban in Bengaluru.
The controversy surrounding his statement continues to stir emotions even after a month. A Bengaluru civil court has now issued an ex parte interim injunction, preventing the veteran actor from making any future statements against the Kannada language or culture.

The ruling was passed on Friday (July 4) by an Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge after Mahesh Joshi, President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), filed a civil suit.
According to PTI, the petition sought a legal restraint on Kamal Haasan from delivering "defamatory remarks" about the language and its cultural roots.
The court ordered Kamal Haasan to be barred from 'posting, making, writing, or publishing any statement or remarks claiming linguistic superiority over the Kannada language or making any statements against the Kannada language, literature, land, and culture.'
The court has also issued a summons to the actor, directing him to appear in person for the next hearing, which has been scheduled for August 30.
Kamal Haasan's controversial remark about Kannada
Kamal Haasan compared Tamil and Kannada during a promotional event in Bengaluru for Thug Life back in May. He said, 'Kannada was born out of Tamil,' and the statement did not sit well with some Kannada activists and cultural organisations. The uproar intensified when Haasan refused to retract his statement or issue an apology. Thug Life ultimately did not release in Karnataka, even though the production house and Kamal Haasan approached the High Court.
About Thug Life
Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, features Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and others in key roles. Unfortunately, the film underperformed at the box office.

The teaser also introduced the film's leading lady, 20-year-old Tamil actor Sara Arjun. Soon after the teaser dropped, the film's actors Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun's age difference of 20 years became a topic of discussion on social media. While the film's storyline and character dynamics are still under wraps, many netizens wrote that they hope Sara and Ranveer have not been paired romantically opposite each other. However, many others defended the casting, suggesting it may not be a romantic pairing and urging people to wait for the film's release before passing judgment. 'The casting looks intentional. Unless you watch it there is no way to confirm if this is a romantic pairing. Maybe stop imaginary run-ups on theories and bash a movie that has a lot of hard work put into it," wrote one netizen, while another Reddit user wrote, 'Let us atleast wait for movie to release . If it doesn't fit into story then let's criticise." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ranveer Singh (@ranveersingh) Who Is Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar Co-Star Sara Arjun?
